Namibia - A Truly Unique Adventure
Looking to visit one of the most unique places in the world? If yes, Namibia should be on top of your list.
From the ancient dunes of the Namib Desert to the cultural tapestry woven by its various tribes, Namibia is an absolute dream for those with an adventurous spirit.
To get a real flavor of what this unique country has to offer, rent a 4x4 truck with a roof tent and set off to a drive of a lifetime.
Places to visit:
- Windhoek- capital of Namibia
- See the amazing Quiver trees at the Quiver tree forest
- Drive through the Tropic of Capricorn… there are two points!
- Take a hike in the Grand Canyon of Namibia - River Fish Canyon.
- Get lost under the sand of the fascinating ghost town of Kolmanskop
- Hike the incredible dunes in Sossusvlei and see the 900 year old trees in Deadvlei, an amazing clay pan
- Visit the charming town of Luderitz
- Make a quick stop for gas and apple pie in Solitaire
- Take a stroll around Swakopmund and see flamingos and seals on Wolvis Bay
- Sleep under a bed of stars in Spitzkoppe- The night sky is your 1 million star hotel!
- Go on a self drive game/ safari in Etosha. We saw giraffes, buffaloes, dear, different species of birds, lots of zebras. They are everywhere! Didn’t spot any lions but we saw these in another safari we did in Tanzania.
Africa to me, is the most beautiful continent on earth!
💰How much does it cost to rent a house on wheels?
We went to Namibia for 15 days but rented the vehicle for 12 days.
If you have time and money to stay longer, I’d suggest staying at least three weeks so you can take your time driving, resting and taking in the scenery.
Namibia is a big a country and you’ll spend a lot of time behind the wheel because there’s a lot to see.
The cost for renting a 4x4 with a roof tent was $1,200 including full insurance, with a company called Britz.
There are other companies and they have different prices depending on the type of vehicle, tent and extras. We went for the budget friendly, basic vehicle - Not for the instagram friendly; Jeep with solar panel for a ridiculous price. At the end of the day, you are still sleeping in a tent! 😂
The price included:
• Sleeping bags, pillows and blankets for two.
• Kitchenware - plates, glasses, kettle, pots & pans.
• Small gas cylinder
• Portable stove
• Picnic chairs and table
• Freezer
Gas cost: 600 and we drove 4,000 km.
Campsites cost: $210 (5 campsites)
The days we didn’t have the car, we slept at Urban Camp in Windhoek, that was an additional $120.
We would have loved spending more time in Namibia but our budget didn’t allow. Will definitely go back to explore more of this beautiful gem in the world.
This year, my wish is to travel around China and Iran 🤞

Gorillas in the Wild - A unique Experience.
🦍Is seeing Gorillas in the Wild a must do experience for you?
Tracking mountain gorillas is one of the most unique wildlife experiences in the world.
Sure, it is not cheap but the experience is priceless!💚
💰But how expensive it really is? Expensive!!🤑
We left this experience for the end of our African trip because we knew the rest of our budget would all be spent on the Gorilla & Chimpazee trekking (that’s for another post).
💵The cost of gorilla trekking differs from country to country. It is important to note that the price of gorilla permits is just a fraction of the overall cost of gorilla trekking. You still have to consider transportation, accommodation, food, Visas, tips for the guides, flights etc.
🗺There are only 3 places in the world where you can see Mountain Gorillas and the park entrance fee cost vary depending on the country.
We chose Bwindi impenetrable forest in Uganda because it’s safe and more affordable than its neighbour, Rwanda.
This park permit is valid for one day only and can only be booked through your tour operator.
Part of the amount you pay for your gorilla trekking permit is used in the conservation and research process, another part is used to develop and educate the communities around the protected gorilla conservation areas and to develop the infrastructure.
🇨🇩Congo$450
🇷🇼Rwanda $1500
🇺🇬Uganda $700
You can only do this trek with a private tour. However, you’ll be joined by other people when you arrive at the park - from other private tours. Our group had 6 people in total and we were only 2 groups that day.
Is that very expensive hour with the Gorillas worth it? To us, a million YES!!
Did you know that there are only around 1,000 Gorillas left in the world?
Poaching, habitat destruction and diseases threaten the life of these magnificent creatures.
How often do gorillas give birth?
Females have a gestation period of 8.5 months and nurture their young for several years. Generally, females give birth to one baby every four to six years. This slow population growth makes it harder for gorillas to recover from any population decline.
Travel responsibly.
My #2024wish is to hike in the Karakoram mountain area in Pakistan.

The Ha Giang Loop, Vietnam🇻🇳🏍️
📍The Ha Giang Loop, Vietnam
The Ha Giang loop is a route around the North of Vietnam, on the border of China - best explored on the back of a motorbike!
The past 3 days have been some of the best days of my life. I have never ever experienced views like it - there are the most gigantic mountains, insane rivers and valleys & scenery that just leaves your mind absolutely blown.
We got to stay in homestays in the middle of mountains & drink ‘happy water’ (a rice wine shot) with our amazing Vietnamese drivers.
If you’re planning to go to Vietnam, please don’t miss out the Ha Giang Loop!! However, be prepared for the sorest bum of your life :)

SHOULD YOU VISIT HANOI, VIETNAM?🇻🇳
📍Hanoi, Vietnam
Our last stop in Vietnam - Hanoi, Vietnam’s capital city. This city is crazy. With over 5 million motorbikes on the streets, there isn’t much rest or tranquility to be had in Hanoi. But it is so exciting. Everywhere you look there is something happening. The streets are like a maze with centuries-old architecture and rich culture. There are endless coffee shops offering the most beautiful coffee (in my opinion, the best you’ll ever find) and amazing restaurants and stalls.
We spent 4 nights in Hanoi, after our Ha Giang Loop trip, and mainly spent our days wondering the streets and doing an egg coffee making class. But there are an incredible amount of things to do and see in Hanoi.
Vietnam as a whole has been such an enlightening trip. Although Thailand did feel like a culture shock, Vietnam was a huge step up. Everything here seems so different to western society; the way of life, customs and etiquette, food, drink and especially the driving😂 Although it takes some getting used to, and sometimes can be frustrating, I am so lucky to have been able to immerse myself into such an interesting culture. Vietnam will always be a part of me now & I love it!

After looking for agesss; we found The Kingdom Hotel Hanoi on Agoda. It was £9 a night for an economy room with no window & it totally did the job. I thought the room was perfect for the price. There was a maid who replenished everything everyday & they provided really good coffee and green tea sachets everyday, which no other hotel in Vietnam did.

Rustic & flavorful food in Fremantle, Perth.
▪️Bread In Common▪️
📍43 Pakenham St, Fremantle WA 6160, Australia
Another place to add to your #travelitinerary when visiting Perth is this really rustic and industrial restaurant & bakery! Before I start on the food, I just love how gorgeous the interior is. This place is perfect for an intimate night with your partner or drinks and dinner woth friends!
We tried a few items off the menu — This place is definitely on the pricier side with options ranging from $24-$38! However I do understand the pricing as all thwir produce are harvest from their very own farm 😍🌾
The food here is very heavily influenced by asian flavours! Like Chinese, Indian, Turkish. My favorite's were the peppers and the cauliflowers! They were bursting with flavours that just complements each other really well.
THIS IS ALSO MY FIRST TIME TRYING 🦘 KANGAROO MEAT 😳 I was honestly abit skeptical but I managed to! The flavours were pretty yummy, the meat itself was like a blend between lamb & braised beef. Would I have it again? 👀 Honestly, I would!!!! It was pretty overwhelming at the start but i feel like of you have it pretty often it would be like beef or chicken 😜
Anyways! This is a really cool joint you should
visit if you love asian flavours and a nice ambience to wine and dine with your friends 😍

A TRAVEL GUIDE FOR THE HA GIANG LOOP🇻🇳
A Travel guide for the Ha Giang Loop, Vietnam!🇻🇳
A few tips/things to make you aware of, to make your Ha Giang Loop trip easier:
(this is specifically with Jasmine tours)
- You leave your big backpacks in luggage storage at Jasmine Hostel in Ha Giang & take a small backpack with you for the entire trip (the small backpack is put in a plastic bag & strapped to the motorbike, travelling with you).
- The home stays that you stay in around the Ha Giang Loop give you towels - so no need to pack a towel to take with you.
- The only real expense, if you’re backpacking on a budget, is drinks. You’ll have to pay for any kind of drink; water, coffee, beer, etc.
- We went during 30 degree weather, but at some points, it did still feel cold when driving - pack long trousers if you can (leggings are perfect) and also shorts. Definitely a rain coat. Closed toe shoes (trainers) are probably best - although most of the drivers are wearing sliders lol.
- For helmets and padding, you leave a 200k deposit for a helmet & 200k deposit for padding (padding is your choice, but I highly recommend padding).
- Pain killers are a good idea (your whole body achesss by day 3).
- Tipping your drivers is usually between 300k - 500k (totally depending on your experience with your driver).
- There aren’t many atms on the road or near Jasmine hostel, so make sure you bring enough money with you.
