Exploring the Ruins of Ephesus
Ephesus, an ancient city located in modern-day Turkey, was once a bustling metropolis and a major center of trade and commerce in the classical Mediterranean world. Today, it stands as one of the most well-preserved archaeological sites in Europe, offering a vivid portal into the Roman Empire's past.
What to Expect
Visitors to Ephesus can explore an array of remarkable ruins, including the Library of Celsus, a two-story structure that was once one of the largest libraries of the ancient world, and the Grand Theatre, which could hold 25,000 spectators and still hosts concerts today. The site also includes the Temple of Hadrian, the Odeon, and the sprawling Terrace Houses, which offer a glimpse into the domestic lives of Ephesians with their preserved mosaics and frescoes.
Experiences and Recommendations
A guided tour can enhance your visit by providing context to the ruins you're seeing, explaining the city's history and the daily lives of its ancient inhabitants. Walking the Marble Road that leads through the city center, you'll feel connected to the thousands who walked there before you over millennia. For those interested in religious history, the House of the Virgin Mary, a pilgrimage site near Ephesus believed to be where Mary spent her last days, is a short drive away.
Tips and Tricks
The best times to visit Ephesus are spring and fall, when the weather is mild and the crowds are smaller. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes as the site is expansive and the ground uneven. Bringing water and sun protection is crucial, as shade is limited. Early morning or late afternoon visits can offer softer light for photos and a cooler experience.
Personal Reflections
Walking through the streets of Ephesus, I was struck by the intricate detail of the carvings on the buildings and the sheer scale of the city. It's a place that truly transports you back in time, making you feel like a spectator of history. Standing in the Grand Theatre, imagining the performances and speeches that took place there, was a highlight of my visit.
For history buffs, culture seekers, and anyone fascinated by the relics of ancient civilizations, Ephesus represents a compelling journey through time, filled with awe-inspiring insights into human history and civilization.

Captivating Cappadocia
Cappadocia, located in central Turkey, is a surreal landscape famous for its unique rock formations known as fairy chimneys, ancient cave dwellings, and the enchanting spectacle of hot air balloons dotting the early morning skies. This region offers a blend of natural wonders, historical depth, and cultural richness that captivates travelers from around the world.
A hot air balloon ride at sunrise is an essential Cappadocia experience. Floating gently over the valleys, you'll witness a breathtaking panorama of the undulating terrain and the conical fairy chimneys below. This magical moment provides not only spectacular photo opportunities but also a profound sense of peace and wonder.
Exploring the ground level is just as rewarding. The Göreme Open-Air Museum, a UNESCO World Heritage site, showcases a complex of medieval painted cave churches that illustrate the spiritual and artistic heritage of Byzantine monks. Venturing into the underground cities like Derinkuyu offers a glimpse into ancient defensive settlements that could house thousands during times of siege.
For those visiting, it’s advisable to wear comfortable hiking shoes as the terrain can be rocky and uneven. Spring and autumn are the best times to visit due to the mild weather, allowing for full days of exploration without the intense heat of summer.
Dining in Cappadocia also offers a taste of local Turkish cuisine with specialties such as testi kebab (meat and vegetables cooked in a clay pot) and the sweet pastry, baklava. Staying in one of the region's cave hotels provides not just comfort but a unique immersive experience into the historical lifestyle of the area.
Cappadocia is a place where every dawn brings a spectacle and every corner tells a story, making it a truly mesmerizing destination for adventurers and cultural enthusiasts alike.

Morning on The Borphorus
When in Istanbul try to get up early and have a look how the city is waking up. You’ll be surprised how early life starts here. Fisherman, seagulls, cats, simit sellers, runners all of them are awake before the sunrise. In the glow of the early morning light, snap photos of iconic places of this amazing city. The sun is slowly rising over the straight and opens to us even more stunning sights.#Istanbul #travelturkey #trip
most photographed carpet shop in Cappadocia
📸Attraction Name: Galerie Ikman
📍Location : Cappadocia
🚏Best way to get there: can easily be reached on foot when in Goreme
Galerie Ikman sells different types of carpets. It’s one of the biggest if not the biggest shop around Goreme town. The owner was very friendly and explained me all the symbols and the methods used. I bought two carpets from them and I was offered a free photoshoot that would have cost me 35€.

My trip to Kusadasi Turkey is something I do every year to visit my family.
This year was much better as the summer in London had been very cold and rainy. It was a breath of fresh air and plenty of sunshine as usual.
