MERDEKA SQUARE, KUALA LUMPUR
Merdeka Square, Kuala Lumpur's heart, isn't your typical tourist attraction. It's a vast field where Malaysia declared independence in 1957. The atmosphere is electric. Standing here, you're filled with a sense of awe. The world's tallest flagpole displays the Malaysian flag, a symbol of freedom.
But Merdeka Square is more than a flagpole. The majestic Sultan Abdul Samad Building flanks one side, adding grandeur with its clock tower and domes. It's a popular photo spot.
The best part? Experiencing the local vibe. Merdeka Square is a place for families to relax. Kids chase pigeons, while groups gather for picnics. It's a glimpse into Malaysian life, a welcome escape from the city's buzz.
If you're looking for thrills, this square might not be it. But if you want to experience Malaysian history and culture, it's a hidden gem waiting to be explored.

The Most Historic Part of Kuala Lumpur
#tripxplorproject
On a wonderful day, I visited one of the most attractive areas of Kuala Lumpur, Merdeka Square and Masjid Jamek. Generally, Kuala Lumpur is a city that never becomes repetitive for you, and even if you visit one place every day, it will be new to you because of the weather, amazing people, and a lot of spots that you could not find last days. Merdeka Square and Masjid Jamek are not exceptions.
When you walk on the street, it seems you are walking on history. I could imagine Malaysian people from 100 years ago, how they could achieve their independence, etc. The atmosphere is so friendly; a lot of tourists are taking pictures or visiting these buildings, and one of the most interesting parts of this journey is trying delicious food around these places :D.
The architecture of this area is unique and very special. Masjid Jamek was KL’s main place of worship for Muslims until the National Mosque - Masjid Negara - opened to the public in 1965. The style is a combination of Islam and ancient Moorish (originating from North Africa, as well as parts of Spain and Portugal). In most Malaysian historic structures (instead of those buildings the British or Portuguese built), you can see Islamic design elements. This area is so beautiful, and I enjoy visiting there.

Exploring Downtown Kuala Lumpur
It's easy to get lost in the hustle and bustle of downtown Kuala Lumpur, which is home to many attractions and places of interest. Visitors to Kuala Lumpur may be initially drawn to the city's glittering skyscrapers and enormous retail malls, but a deeper exploration of the city reveals a rich tapestry of colonial and historical architecture, vibrant marketplaces, and quiet enclaves of greenery.
If you're planning a trip to Downtown Kuala Lumpur and want to know what to do there, this photo will give you some ideas.

My KL in a Day ✨
24 hours was not enough time to see it all! As someone who loves to travel by foot and see the sights around me, I walked to many of my destinations.
The plan was to start off with breakfast at #jalanalor . As beautiful as the street was, I went at a time where there were not many stores open and I wasn’t able to try any of the good food it was said to have. This meant I had to settle for a cafe brunch, which was surprisingly good! #TheRabbitHole offered a typical Western cafe breakfast, but was S E D A P and the coffee hit the right spot.
I then headed to the #KLObservatoryDeck , which offered a view that seemed pretty basic for a city. I would have loved it there as a kid, seeing that all the binoculars stands were free of charge and I could spend a lot of time looking through them and watching the people as they walked on the streets (just beware, there is a full view into hotel rooms 🫣 hopefully no one see what shouldn’t be seen)
After spending a good amount of time there, I headed down and walked ~30 minutes to the #petronastwintowers and it was quite the walk.
There, I explored the mall and took many photos from the different angles. It gave me a rest from walking out in the hot sun, but as an average traveller, there was not much shopping to enjoy from the mall as it was mostly branded and expensive items.
Taking the train was so convenient, it brought me to Masjid Jamek, just a ~10 minute walk from the #merdekasquare . I passed by the #MedanPasarClockTower and #riveroflife before arriving at my main attraction, the #merdekasquare overlooking the #SultanAbdulSamadBuilding which beauty had caught my eye.
Call me crazy but that’s when I embarked on my other ~30 minute walk down to #tugunegara , a war memorial site, and explored the beauty of KL’s botanical gardens 🌻!
At this point, my phone was on its last breath, so I headed back to my lodging until it was time for dinner.
Maybe because it was a weekday, I wasn’t able to find much food at #PetalingStreetMarket , just lots and lots of shopping. Sadly, I’m not much of a shopping girlie, so I just went for a quick bite, then headed off to my last location of the day, #CentralMarketKL .
It was filled with many things to buy, ranging from clothes, to food, to groceries. It was an enjoyable walk I must say, and a good end to the day.
Let me know what else I could have and should have done to enjoy my walking escapade in KL!
