My Hometown: Manisa

Besides, Mesir Fest, also known as the Mesir Paste Festival or the Mesir Macunu Festival, is an annual festival held in the city of Manisa, Turkey. The festival dates back to the 16th century and is said to have been initiated by the Ottoman Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent. During the festival, thousands of people gather in the streets of Manisa to celebrate and to receive small packets of Mesir paste, which are traditionally thrown from the roof of the Sultan Mosque.
