I climbed 193 steps to see him. But honestly? It felt like he was watching me the whole time. Long Son Pagoda is famous for its giant White Buddha. 24 meters of pure white, sitting on a 7-meter lotus, visible from almost anywhere in Nha Trang. The largest outdoor Buddha statue in Vietnam, built in 1963. But here's what nobody tells you: 👉 He doesn't smile. Most Buddha statues are calm, peaceful, friendly. This one is different. He just sits there, silent, staring at the city. No "nice vibes." Just presence. It's not creepy — it's powerful. Like he's scanning Nha Trang… and you along with it. ⛰️👀 🔥 But the real shock is underneath. On each side of the statue's pedestal, there are bas-reliefs of monks burning alive. Not art. History. These are memorials to six monks from this very pagoda who self-immolated in 1963 to protest the persecution of Buddhists. There are 5 unique experiential parks in Hengdian World Studios: 1. Hengdian World Studios - Qin Palace 2. Hengdian World Studios - Riverside Scene at Qingming Festival 3. Hengdian World Studios - Dream Valley 4. Hengdian World Studios - Guangzhou Street & Hong Kong Street 5. Hengdian World Studios - Palace of Ming and Qing Dynasties I visited 1, 2, 3 & 5. Missed out on 4 due to the lack of time, but perhaps next time! Qin Palace & Riverside Scene at Qingming Festival are highly recommended if you ever have the chance to visit Hengdian. Keep a look out for the performance schedule on their WeChat Mini Program (Hengdian Travel) because there are some really good ones that I enjoyed, such as "Human Fireworks" & "A Dream of Bianliang", which are both night performances at the Riverside Scene at Qingming Festival park. The Palace of Ming and Qing Dynasties features the "Eight Banners Equestrian Battle", a live performance by real stuntmen which was really quite exciting to watch in real life. There are plenty of photo spots in every park & you'll certainly recognize the locations where your favorite C-dramas were filmed. Dream Valley is an amusement park + mini aquarium which might appeal to younger audiences - I only managed to catch the seal performance which was not as impressive compared to the shows I've seen at the other parks. Overall, there are many NPCs/cosplayers within the parks that you can interact & play games with to make the experience more fun! Otherwise, you might find it a bit of a bore to just take pictures while waiting for the main performances to start.

But the real drama lies in the journey of the main cross. The one currently on the central dome is an exact replica. The original was taken down in 1942 by Spanish soldiers from the "Blue Division" and transported all the way to Spain, where it remained in a museum near Burgos until 2004. It was returned and now stands inside the cathedral, near the altar. Imagine—a cross that traveled Europe as an unwitting tourist and finally came back home!
