The desert landscape surrounding Tongren reaches its zenith within this national park, where vibrant crimson mountains converge with the serene turquoise expanse of a reservoir formed by the damming of the Yellow River. 🌊A road that triggers nervous anticipation winds its way up through the park's summits, passing by tranquil Tibetan villages adorned with lively prayer flags fluttering proudly in the brisk breeze.🛕
Embark on a journey of wonder as you traverse through lush meadows, tranquil lakes, and rugged mountains. ⛰️The reserve boasts a diverse range of flora and fauna, showcasing the unspoiled natural habitat of countless species. Whether you're a passionate photographer, a devoted birdwatcher, or simply seeking solace in nature, Kanbula National Forest Park has something for everyone. 🤩
Tips and Tricks:
To reach this destination from Xining, there are regular buses departing every half an hour from the central bus station, operating between 10.30 am and 5 pm. The drop-off point is approximately 7 km away from the park's entrance and is called - 康杨镇. Taxis are available to transport you for ¥10 per person to the entrance. 🚖Keep in mind that the final return bus is around 4.30 pm, necessitating an early departure to avoid being stranded.(Timetable can vary depending on season)
If you're on a budget and don't want to use Kanbula National Forest Park's provided buses which might cost up to ¥200 per person. We recommend on talking to the drivers at the taxi stand and negotiate the price for a tour. We paid ¥300 together for tour through the park and additional ¥40 for getting from the taxi stand to the park and back (each way ¥20).🙃
Exchange WeChat contacts with your driver in case if you decide to spend a little bit more time to appreciate one of the viewpoints or in case if you want him/her to pick you up at other end of one of many staircases that traverse the park. 🏃🏃♀️
Ask a taxi driver to drop you off at the bus stop to Xining after you're done exploring the park and they will gladly do so.❤️
Enjoy!

Adventurous Road Trip
We spend 2.5 hours on the road to get to Qinghai Lake via Sun-moon mountain, the largest salt water lake of China. There you may feel that the air is so fresh and the sunshine is so warm it makes you feel as if you are in paradise. You can see groups of sheep, yaks, blue sky and white clouds. We dressed up in traditional Tibetan clothing and enjoyed some of the activities they had. The main scenic area we visited was the Erlangjian Scenic Area. You can enjoy the charming lake, take a boat cruise, horse riding and bike riding which is also available around the lake.

Beautiful Monastery
It was our first stop on our Silk Road Tour. Just landed and headed to the Ta’er Monastery. It is one of the six great Monasteries of Tibet Buddhism and was a wonderful experience.
Ta’er Monastery has profound historical origin that it’s the birthplace of famous Tsongkhapa, the founder of Tibetan Buddhism Gelug Sect. Not only bearing the divine position in religious followers, the monastery is a Tibetan Buddhist institution of higher education. Beneath the glorious decorations on surface fascinating your eyes, the rich accumulations in history, culture, religion and arts of Ta’er Monastery excites your souls deeply especially when meeting those devout followers trudged for pilgrimage here.

Chaka Salt Lake, the Mirror of the Sky
Chaka Salt Lake aka “Mirror of the Sky” truly lives up to its name 🪞
I wanted to share some shots from this magical place in Xining province which I’ve been sitting on for a while (honestly far too long)
The journey to get here was hectic but boy was it worth it for the view 🤩
Fun fact: The Chinese name of this lake is 茶卡盐湖 or Chá kǎ yánhú. “Chaka” means salt lake in Tibetan while “yanhu” means salt lake in Chinese So this marvel of nature is actually named “Salt Lake Salt Lake” Go figure!
🚫Don’t go on a windy day or you won’t be able to see the mirror effect🚫
