The Hour the Lighthouse Keeps: Where the Beacon Meets the Moon
🗼For seven days, the lighthouse kept time for me.
🏮Not with its beacon - though that flashed every five seconds, faithful as a heartbeat - but with the world that passed around it.
⛰️🌴I saw it through palm trees one morning, fronds framing the stripes like a postcard I didn't have to buy. Through rocks another afternoon, jagged and ancient, the tower rising between them like a secret.
🚢A cruise ship slid past one day, slow and white. Seeing a seagull used the lantern as a turning point on.
🌛At dusk, the moon rose exactly behind the tower - I was lucky to capture that moment from the balcony.
🌊Some days waves exploded at Boca do Inferno while the lighthouse stood calm above the spray.
🏊♂️🏊♀️🛶Weekends brought swimmers bobbing in the bay, and some canoes drifting so quietly I almost missed it - the lighthouse watching over them like a quiet guardian.
🌑One time, I noticed its own shadow stretching across the water - the lighthouse, keeping an eye on itself.
On the day leaving Cascais, I realised I hadn't just seen Santa Marta.
I'd spent a week learning how to look.

Lighthouse Dream🌅
#winterescape Seaside Glow at Súgandisey Island Lighthouse 🌧️🛟
If you’re looking for a moody, atmospheric slice of Iceland’s coastal magic, Súgandisey Island Lighthouse in Stykkisholmur is a must-see! The striking red lighthouse contrasts beautifully with windswept skies and pools of sea mist, making it an unforgettable photo stop.
Route & Must-Dos:
Start from Stykkisholmur harbor and follow the well-marked path onto Súgandisey Island. The hike is easy and takes less than 15 minutes—perfect for catching that fresh ocean air and sweeping panoramic views. Wander past rivers and ponds, pause for nature vision moments, and reach the lighthouse standing proud against the elements.
Photo Spots:
Capture the lighthouse in foreground with the dramatic cloudy dusk sky and water below; wide shots with the rugged coastline and town in the distance look fantastic. Bonus tip: If rain hits, reflections on the wet ground make for unique, moody images.
Visiting Tips:
Dress for chilly, damp Icelandic weather—even in summer, wind and rain can sneak up. Waterproof layers are your best friend! The island is open year-round, so flexible timing lets you try for golden hour or late afternoon for the best light.
Precautions:
Watch your step, especially after rain—some paths may be slippery! Keep gadget/safety gear dry, and respect nature by sticking to marked trails.

Epic Iceland Views🌊,
#winterescape Dyrhólaey Lighthouse: Where the Atlantic Meets Epic Icelandic Views 🌊🗺️
Prepare to be wowed by Dyrhólaey Lighthouse, perched atop dramatic cliffs with sweeping vistas of black sand beaches, puffin colonies, and roaring waves—the ultimate South Iceland photo stop!
🧭 Route & Itinerary:
From Vik, drive about 20 minutes west to the Dyrhólaey peninsula—well signed, but roads can be rough, so take it slow. Parking is available near the lighthouse; expect gravel and steep sections!
🌟 Must-Do Activities:
Stroll around the lighthouse (CV29+VWV, 871 Vik) for 360° views. Spot Reynisfjara beach’s basalt columns to the east, and keep your eyes peeled for puffins nesting (May–August!). Walk out to the arch itself for insane panoramas.
📸 Insta-Worthy Photo Spots:
Snap the classic shot of the lighthouse framed against the sea. For dramatic coastlines, head to the viewpoint before you reach the parking area—it’s less crowded, and I found the angle best for early morning light. Don’t miss capturing the vast black sand stretch from above!
💡 Visiting Tips:
The access road to the upper viewpoint can be closed in winter or due to nesting birds (especially May–August). If locked, take the lower route—still spectacular! Dress for wind; it’s gusty year-round. Pick layers and sturdy shoes.
⚠️ Precautions:
Cliffs are steep and unguarded—watch your step, especially if wet or foggy. Don’t get too close to the edge for photos. Weather changes fast, so check forecasts and bring a waterproof outer layer.

Beautiful historic lighthouse in Venezuela
For the first time, I spent the night inside a lighthouse, and what a lighthouse it was! 🔥
How is it possible that, as an avid admirer and enthusiast of lighthouses, I had never managed to visit one inside and climb to the top until now?
I won’t lie—this time, I couldn’t make it to the top either. A sturdy locked door on the second floor stopped us. However, we were able to climb up to the second floor and step out onto the balconies to enjoy the view of the Caribbean Sea. And it was on the balcony of the second floor that we spent a wonderful first half of the night. Why only half? Because rain came and "chased" us back inside! We had to quickly pack up and move to the first floor. Regardless, it was an interesting and truly unique experience 🥰
Cape San Roman, located on the Paraguana Peninsula where this stunning lighthouse stands, is the northernmost point of mainland Venezuela and all of South America. On clear days, you can distinctly see the lights of Aruba and Curaçao from here. The cape is situated 112 kilometers north of the city of Coro.
It was at this very spot that the Spanish landed on the peninsula on August 9, 1499, the day of Saint Roman, the saint who gave the cape its name. The expedition was led by Alonso de Ojeda, accompanied by Juan de la Cosa and Amerigo Vespucci. You could say that Venezuela began here.
Several lighthouses have been built at this location over time, and the current one was restored and put into operation at the end of 2004. It is equipped with a powerful projector with a light range of about 43 kilometers. It is said that this lighthouse was inspired by the oldest stone lighthouse in the world, located in La Coruña, Spain.
We were lucky enough to spend the night in such a beautiful historic place. Personally, I adore lighthouses and consider it my duty to visit every one I come across. If you love them too, share your lighthouse photos in the comments ☺️
Ke Ga Lighthouse – My Dreamy First Stop from Mui Ne🗼🌊
On Day 2 of my Mui Ne trip (after the comfy sleeper bus ride from Ho Chi Minh City on Day 1), I kicked things off with Ke Ga Lighthouse. It is one of the spots I was most excited about from the moment I saw pictures while searching online for my itinerary!
The lighthouse sitting on that rocky little island, the bright turquoise sea, and the wild beach rocks… it looked like a painting, and I couldn’t wait to see it in real life. 😍🌅
We arrived as the first stop of the day, and high tide was in full swing. At low tide you can apparently walk across, but we had to take a quick boat ride from the rental spot nearby (super easy and not expensive at all 🚤). Honestly, the boat area ended up being a bonus. It gave the best angles for photos of the lighthouse from a distance, which made everything feel even more magical! 📸✨
The view really was like stepping into a painting, the tall old lighthouse against the blue sky, surrounded by those dramatic granite rocks and endless ocean 🌊🪨. I wandered around the islet, snapped tons of pics, and just soaked in the peaceful vibe. It was such a chill, beautiful start to the day. I loved every single moment! ❤️☀️
If you're heading to Mui Ne, definitely add Ke Ga to your day trip list. Short drive south, unique history, and views that stay with you forever. 10/10 recommend! 👍🌴
Rating: 4.7/5
Scenery: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Atmosphere: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Value: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (boat ride was cheap but an extra cost not in the original budget)

Perdana Lighthouse - a historic lighthouse in Langkawi
If I were to live in Langkawi, this would undoubtedly be my "place of power"!
Lighthouses hold a special place in my heart—they're romantic, mysterious, and unique. In such places, I feel the urge to stay silent, dream, read, and simply think while gazing into the vastness of the sea and breathing in the salty air. Ideally, in peace and quiet, accompanied only by the sound of waves.
The Perdana Lighthouse is a stunning example of colonial architecture. It serves not only as a navigational aid but also as a symbol of the transformation of the area from a simple fishing village into a modern yacht marina. By the way, the yacht pier is incredibly beautiful—I’ll share some photos later! Whether during the day or at sunset, the atmosphere there is truly special.
I read that tours are conducted to this lighthouse, and you can even go inside and climb to the top! We visited the island during Ramadan, which might explain why the lighthouse was closed, along with most other attractions. Perhaps during a more "tourist-friendly" time, it’s possible to go inside—if anyone knows, let me know.
So far, I’ve never had the chance to step inside a lighthouse, but I really hope to someday 💖
Tokarevskiy Lighthouse – Vladivostok's Iconic Sea Sentinel 🌊⚓
#winterescape
Standing sentinel at the very tip of the Tokarevskiy Kamen (Tokarev Cape), the Tokarevskiy Lighthouse is one of Vladivostok's most iconic and romantic landmarks. Built in 1876, it's one of the oldest lighthouses in the Russian Far East. To reach it, you walk along a narrow, evocative causeway that stretches nearly a kilometer into the sea—at low tide, it's a solid path, but at high tide, the water washes over it, making the lighthouse feel like a solitary island fortress.
The walk itself is an adventure, with panoramic views of the Eastern Bosphorus Strait, passing ships, and the distant silhouette of Russky Island. The sight of the classic white-and-red striped tower against the moody Pacific sky is unforgettable. It's a place of powerful winds, crashing waves, and a profound sense of standing at the edge of the continent.
📍 Location: Cape Tokarev, at the end of Egershel'd district, Vladivostok.
🚕 Transport: Take a taxi or bus (#60, #81) to the Egershel'd district, then it's a significant walk to the start of the causeway.
🕙 Accessible: 24/7, but the causeway walk is safest and most dramatic at low tide. Check tide tables!
💡 Traveler Tips:
· Check the Tides! This is crucial. Aim for a low tide visit for a safe, dry walk. Avoid during storms or high winds.
· Dress for Weather: It is always windy and can be cold. Wear sturdy shoes and a windbreaker.
· Sunset Magic: It's a legendary spot for sunset photography. The view back towards the city and the Russky Island Bridge is spectacular.
· Combine with: Visit the nearby Egershel'd Lighthouse and the beaches of the Egershel'd peninsula.

🏖️ The Windswept Drama of Praia dos Ingleses & Farolim de Felgueiras 🌊⚓️
#hellonewyear
Forget calm, sheltered coves—this is the wild, untamed Atlantic coast of Porto! Praia dos Ingleses isn’t your typical sunbathing spot; it’s a moody, cinematic landscape where powerful waves crash against dark volcanic rocks and the wind whips through your hair. The real star is the view of the iconic Farolim de Felgueiras—a charming, red-roofed 19th-century lighthouse perched defiantly on the edge of a stone jetty, battling the surf. Watching the sunset paint the sky behind it was pure magic. ✨
📍 Location: Praia dos Ingleses, Foz do Douro, Porto. The lighthouse is at the northern end.
💡 Traveler Tips:
· Wear sturdy shoes! The access involves stairs and rocky paths. This is for exploring, not lounging.
· Check the tide times. At high tide, the jetty and base of the lighthouse can be completely submerged and dangerous. Low tide offers safer exploration.
· It’s WINDY! Come prepared with a windbreaker, and hold onto your hat (and phone!).
· Combine your visit: Walk here along the stunning Foz promenade from the Douro River mouth. Afterwards, warm up with a coffee or a glass of vinho verde at one of the chic esplanades in Foz.

end of europe 🌊 cabo da roca (^▽^)ノ
cabo da roca is the dramatic cliff edge where portugal basically says “ok, atlantic, your turn.” it’s the westernmost point of mainland europe, with the classic camões line on the monument: “onde a terra se acaba e o mar começa” (here the land ends and the sea begins). the cliffs drop from about 140m, so the views feel properly massive (。•‿•)っ

cool facts to know before you go (๑˃̵ᴗ˂̵)و

Ulsan Dreamscape✨
⚓ Seaside Serenity & Lighthouse Views at Ulsan’s Coastal Gems 🌊
Jump straight into an ocean-inspired day trip through Ulsan’s most scenic spots. With dramatic waves crashing over rocky coastlines and the fresh tang of sea air, Daewang-am, Ulgi Lighthouse, and Daewangam Park offer the perfect blend of nature, history, and leisurely strolls.
Start your adventure at Daewang-am, where legend meets landscape—explore the craggy rocks, catch salt spray on your face, and feel the storytelling energy of this mysterious site. Move along Deungdae-ro to Ulgi Lighthouse, a tall sentinel over the East Sea, perfect for classic “lighthouse & waves” photos against moody, ever-changing skies. Pro tip: If it’s cloudy or raining, the wild ocean backdrop is even more dramatic for photography; just bring a rain jacket instead of an umbrella (trust me, that wind can turn umbrellas into aerial art).
Next up, wander into Daewangam Park, open sunrise to sunset year-round. Walk the forested trails that wind toward the sea, or head out to the iconic Daewangam Rock via the sea bridge—absolutely insta-worthy with waves crashing below. Snap panoramic shots from the viewing deck, especially if the weather clears for that "sun breaks through clouds" moment!
Must-dos:
· Stand on the edge at Daewang-am for the full sound-and-spray effect.
· Capture rugged coastline and lighthouse perspectives at Ulgi.
· Walk the sea bridge to Daewangam Rock for unbeatable seascapes.
Tips:
· Avoid slippery rocks during rain.
· Early morning or just before sunset equals fewer crowds and softer light for photos.
· Pack a waterproof layer and keep snacks handy (few shops around).

Must-see Vladivostok spot? The legendary Tokarevsky Lighthouse! 🚨
Built in 1910, it first lit up in 1913.
✅ Originally ran on kerosene, later switched to electricity. And get this – until 1959, they used to ring a BELL in the fog! (That bell now chills in the Pacific Fleet Museum).
Imagine navigating by sound in thick fog? 😮 Wild!
It stands on a tiny man-made island (like 25m across) at the end of an 800m rocky spit – the "Tokarevskaya Koshka" (Cat Spit).
This spit often gets submerged (you can see it in pics 👀) and blocks the path.
But just as often, you can totally walk all the way to the lighthouse without getting your feet wet! 😎
So, why "Cat"? I know two theories:
1️⃣ The spit's pretty small, so folks lovingly called it "koska" (little spit), which sounds like "koshka" (cat).
2️⃣ It kinda curves like a cat's tail, hence the name. 🐈
Fun fact: The lighthouse actually has TWO official names!
🟡 Tokarevsky Lighthouse & Spit: Named after hydrographer Mikhail Tokarevsky. The kicker? Dude never even visited Vladivostok! 😅 He was buddies with explorer Vasily Babkin, who mapped the cape and named it after Tokarevsky.
🟡 Egersheld Lighthouse: Named after explorer Gustav Egersheld, who studied Peter the Great Bay (where the lighthouse is) AND actually kicked off its construction. 👏
The views from the spit? INSANE! 🤯 The Russky Bridge, Elena Island, endless sea, ships in the bay... total eye candy! 🌊🌉
🧷 Visiting? FREE! Parking? Also FREE, but tiny.
🔖 Hop on buses 59, 60, 62, 63, 81... then walk about 2.2 km. 👣
Oh, and a quick pronunciation tip: It's Tokarévsky! Stress that "E". 😉

Byron Bay Lighthouse 🌞
A beautiful white lighthouse located at the easternmost point of mainland Australia. The view from here is truly spectacular, and the blue of the sea and sky seems to cleanse my soul✨
The day I visited, there were a lot of clouds, but the weather was good, and if you're lucky, you can even see whales! (June to November is whale watching season🐋)
🚶♀️There is a slight slope to the lighthouse, but the road along the sea is very pleasant and worth the walk!
I took a different route on the way there and back, and both were easy to walk. You can also use Uber, but I recommend walking as a way to get some exercise♪
Luckily, I also encountered koalas and owls along the trail🦘🦉! The fun of walking in nature is also one of the attractions.
If you want to see the sunrise, we recommend visiting early in the morning when it is easy to find and the roads are clear. 🌅

Cape Byron Lighthouse🌊
I was very impressed when we drove up to the lighthouse.
I was surprised to see such a beautiful sea and greenery in 360 degrees!
The sunset is also very beautiful!
This photo was taken in January, and the sea was a little murky and the sand was worn down when I visited recently, probably due to the effects of the typhoon. I wonder when it will be fully restored...🥲
⚠️Anyway, there are few parking spaces, so you will have to drive around many times or walk about 30 minutes to park. (Even then, it's hard to find a space)I've only been there on weekends, but...

The Oldest Lighthouse of Hong Kong
Cape D’Aguilar is a very popular hiking spot for its picturesque landscape along the coast and a few exceptional natural phenomenon. Lying north of Shek O in Hong Kong’s southeastern coast, it offers a good view of the coastline as hikers descend from the motor way to the sites along the coastline. It is also where Hong Kong’s oldest lighthouse is. Cape D’Aguilar was named after the Major-General George Charles D’Aguilar. During WWII, Cape D’Aguilar served a defensive function as part of the Eastern Fire Command.
The Bokhara Battery is located in the Cape D’Aguilar area. During the 1930s, there were proposals to build gun platforms in Cape D’Aguilar. The two gun platforms were just ready for service when Japan invaded Hong Kong. The Bokhara Battery acquired its name from the rock cropping that lied at the ends of the Cape D’Aguilar Peninsula. Its firepower was higher than the Cape D’Aguilar Battery. It is believed that the two cannons that were stationed at the Bokhara Battery came from the Pottinger Battery in Devil's Peak.
Today, Cape D’Aguilar is an environmentally protected area as the Cape D’Aguilar Marine Reserve. This status results in the area being free of any type of water sport of other related activities. Please observe this prohibition to preserve the marine environment.

The Farolim de Felgueiras is a picturesque lighthouse at the mouth of the Douro River in Foz do Douro, Porto, Portugal. Built in 1886, this iconic landmark was designed to guide navigation at the river's entrance. Made of stone, it stands approximately 10 meters tall. Though deactivated since 2009, it remains a popular spot for visitors and photographers. Discover the wild beauty of the crystal blue water and sandstone cliffs along Lake Superior in MI
Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, MI, USA
You have to visit Michigan and do a boat cruise to take in all of the beauty Pictured Rocks National Lake Shore has to offer. You can even see a waterfall which cascadeds 70 feet into Lake Superior, as well as East Channel Lighthouse, Miners Castle, Lovers’ Leap, Indian Head, Grand Portal and Chapel Rock just to name a few of the natural landmarks along these stunning rocks. The mineral-stained sandstone cliffs and Caribbean-blue Lake Superior stretch 42 miles between Munising and Grand Marais. When groundwater from the cliffs’ cracks drizzles down the rocks, stunning colors appear. Red identifies iron, black and white mean manganese, yellow and brown show limonite and pink and green show copper. It looks like a painting in some spots and absolutely beautiful, pictures don't do it justice and do not show the magnitude of how BIG the cliffs actually are. You have to check out the views from the top as well to put it into perspective. Don't miss this natural wonder of the great U.P.!

Standing majestically on a rocky outcrop, Ke Ga Lighthouse in Binh Thuan province, Vietnam immediately captivates with its historic charm and coastal beauty. Built in 1899, it's the oldest lighthouse in Vietnam, offering a striking contrast between its ancient stone structure and the azure sea. "Ke Ga" means roaster in Vietnamese. Surrounded by smooth boulders and clear waters, the lighthouse provides a serene and picturesque setting that evokes a sense of timeless tranquility and maritime heritage. You just pay for your parking, the entrance is free but you will have a long walk before reaching to this view point.
🇵🇹 Cape Roca, the Westernmost Point of Continental Europe
Cabo da Roca or Cape Roca is a cape which forms the westernmost point of continental Europe. It is about 20 km and 30 minutes drive from Sintra. The cape is famous for its spectacular steep cliffs rising 140m above the Atlantic Ocean. On the highest point of Cabo da Roca stands a 22-m lighthouse built in 1772.
It was very windy at the cliff during our visit. We also witnessed an approaching storm over the sea. Keep in mind not to climb over the fences as there have been a few accidents in the past where people fell to death while taking photos near the cliffs.

Kaohsiung Lighthouse
The Kaohsiung Lighthouse, also known as Cihou Lighthouse, stands proudly on Cijin Island, just off the coast of Kaohsiung City, Taiwan. It's a historic landmark dating back to the late 19th century. It was first constructed in 1883 during the Qing Dynasty of China to guide ships safely through the waters of the Taiwan Strait and into the port of Kaohsiung, which was an important trading hub at the time.
We took the ferry from Kaohsiung City KW2 pier to Cijin Island. Ferries also depart regularly from Gushan Ferry Pier. From Cijin Pier we walked about 1 km to reach the lighthouse which is located at the southern tip of Cijin Island. It was quite a steep climb from the foot of Mount Cihou to the lighthouse. We enjoyed the panoramic views of Kaohsiung City, the harbor, and the Taiwan Strait from the lighthouse.

My Solo Jeju Winter Hike and City Trip
The highligh of this trip was the winter hike in Mt Hallasan one that you can take even if you are hiking solo. The view is amazing, you may hate the hike but you will forget everything once you’re up there. I took the yeongsil-eorimok trail.
Jeju is a safe island for female solo travellers. Highly recommended! Lots of cute cafes, you will never run out of caffeine fix, a heaven for coffee addict 😁 Even their convenience store got a lot of goodies to try. I stayed in 2 locations for my 6 days trip, first near the beach and 2nd was in the city area and it was a great decision. More time to explore the city by foot or by bus. They have very efficient transportation throughout the island although its less frequent when you are far out of the city but it is still manageable.
For transportation you can use kakaotalk or just use google map, bus options will be listed there with bus frequency and timing.
Hiking Mt Hallasan-You can take the bus but make sure to take the first trip as it is pretty crowded and you will be surprised that there’s a lot of hikers from young to old even in winter.
Visiting lighthouses and beaches:do check the weather prior to going out as it can get really windy by the seaside. Bringing poncho is much better than umbrella.
Popular places have long queues like london bagel museum so plan ahead. You dont wanna be stuck in one place for long hours and missed seing other places.
Jeju is a place I would love to visit again and again.

Sri Lanka is a great country and a fantastic place to travel around. Galle is a beautiful city, filled with beautiful buildings, restaurants and coffee shops. Definitely put Sri Lanka on your travel destination list. It will never disappoint, with so much to offer from stunning beaches to tea plantations.
Nice visit: Blacksod Lighthouse 🗺️
#timetotravel
Blacksod Lighthouse, perched at the edge of County Mayo in Ireland, is a maritime marvel that left me mesmerized by its rugged beauty and historical significance. My visit to this iconic lighthouse was a journey into Ireland's coastal heritage.
Standing before Blacksod Lighthouse, overlooking the wild Atlantic Ocean, I was struck by its towering presence against the dramatic backdrop of cliffs and crashing waves. The panoramic views of the surrounding seascape were breathtaking.
What sets Blacksod Lighthouse apart is its maritime importance, particularly its role during World War II and its connection to weather forecasting. The lighthouse's remote location adds to its sense of isolation and grandeur.
The lighthouse's place on the stunning Wild Atlantic Way route makes it accessible while exploring the coastal beauty of County Mayo. For history enthusiasts, nature lovers, and anyone seeking a connection with Ireland's coastal history, Blacksod Lighthouse is a must-visit. It's a place where history and the power of the sea merge, leaving you with a profound appreciation for Ireland's maritime past.
