Inside a 3-Headed Elephant Atop the Museum
#thingstodo
Erawan Museum is a must-visit place in Bangkok, though it might be a bit far from the usual tourist spots from Bangkok, I guarantee that it’s very much worth your time. I can also say you might regret not coming here especially if you are into architecture and interior details. From the exterior color to the majestic detailing of the interiors, everything about this museum screams whimsical! I actually did not realize this at first but you can go inside the elephant structure at the top. How could you pass up the opportunity to be inside the belly of the elephant?
Although what you see might be very fairy tale-like, the whole temple grounds is considered to be sacred. The museum is divided into 3 levels: the basement (exhibition), 1st floor, and the elephant belly which symbolizes heaven. The stairway at the 1st floor is creaky haha, I definitely took my time going up. Once we were at the belly of the elephant, I still can’t believe I’m inside it. Haha. I was really super curious how it was constructed and where are the structural supports as the belly is also hollow and doesn’t show any structural support inside.
I super enjoyed this visit more than I thought I would. Shoes aren’t allowed inside and I believe individual photos of the Gods inside the belly aren’t allowed, so please be careful. One is supposed to be quiet and respectful once inside the belly.

A DAY OUTING IN SEKINCHAN PADI FIELD
#wheretogo
Sekinchan is a small town located about 1 hour drive from Kuala Lumpur. It is famous for its landscape of paddy fields and sumptuous of seafoods.
It was an impromptu visit with buddies after a breakfast in Kuala Lumpur as the weather was great that day. So we car pool all the way to Sekinchan. We went in Dec, and it wasn't actually the best month to visit the paddy field as the harvest season has just passed. Nevertheless, we just try our luck and it turned out to be a great outing. The started with strolling around the padi field in a rented rickshaw bike. Then we stopover to the Paddy Gallery. This place is definitely worth the visit. It is a rice processing factory + gallery + museum where visitors get to learn everything about the life cycle of paddy from the seeds to the rice we eat. It also showcased the evolution of paddy plantation. At the end, visitors can also purchase ready packed rice there.
Besides the gallery, visitor can also visit a Chinese temple nearby. Oh, don't forget to get yourself a nice icy coconut "float" (with ice cream), perfect drink under the blazing sun!
According to the locals there, the best month to visit the paddy field is on March, April, September and October.

Half Day JB Trippin
#malaysia #johor #jb #mookata #foodie #greatfood #daytrip
Looking for a half day trip into JB, head down during the weekdays and you will avoid the terrible jam.
This time we head to a newly open place called TukTuk Mookata located at 22, Jalan Indah 1, Taman Bukit Indah, 79100 Johor Bahru, Johor, Malaysia. They only opens at 5pm and has 2 kind of Mookata, the one with the gas stove and the other traditional charcoal kind. But of course the charcoal Mookata isn't allowed to be seated in air condition seating.
Food wise was of course great, well marinated meats, budget friendly and most importantly the chilli goes well with everything.
Gamaksan suspension bridge
🚌 2/3 hours from seoul by subway and bus.
⛰️ Hiking day-trip from seoul where you can reach after a few hundreds steps, a suspension bridge. you will get to see Ungye waterfall and a temple after a little more hiking.
💡 highlight of the day was the temple. the view from there was amazing and the statues all around it were so beautiful that we actually stopped there way longer than initially planned. we loved the 12 tall Chinese zodiac signs statues set on top of a cliff that allowed us to enjoy the view on the statues and on the suspension bridge.

Escape the Hustle and Bustle in Hong Kong 🇭🇰
#timetotravel
Located only 8 kilometres from the west of Hong Kong Island, Peng Chau is easily accessible and only a ferry ride away from the Central Ferry Pier Number 6, which makes it a perfect day trip destination!!
Peng Chau is home to only 6,000 inhabitants, therefore, as compared with other more popular islands on Hong Kong, for example, Cheung Chau and Mui Wo, Peng Chau offers a relaxing retreat for visitors.
Since I am from Hong Kong, I did not go all tourist mode when visiting Peng Chau. I skipped all the temples and beaches, and spent my day visiting cafes, the leather factory and the outdoor art installations in the junkyard on Wing On Street.
Up until the Japanese Occupation, Peng Chau used had a booming leather business. Thankfully, the factory site was not demolished. At the front of the factory site, you can find loads of coffee shops and other retail outlets; and at the back, there is a massive outdoor junkyard installation. It is definitely worthwhile paying a visit.
If you are planning a visit to Peng Chau after this post, I would also recommend visiting “Island Table Grocer Café”, their apple pies are one of the best I have had!!

Kimono Adventure
Had an amazing day in Pahang's Japanese Village with my bffs. We got to wear traditional kimonos for the first time. The shop owner was super nice. She helped us pick out our kimonos and dressed us up. We felt like we were in Japan! The traditional wooden houses, serene gardens, and peaceful ponds created an atmosphere that made us forgrt we are in Malaysia. We explored the village, took lots of photos and had a blast. When our hour for the kimonos rental was up, we reluctantly returned to the shop. To our surprise, the owner didnt charge us extra for exceeding our time. Her kindness really touched our hearts.

Macao in a few hours
We took a boat from Shenzhen to Macao for a few hours and then back again. A few highlights below:
St. Dominic’s church
This is one of the signature buildings in Macau. You actually pass it on the way to the ruins.. we grabbed some takeaway food and just sat in front of the church and enjoyed the view. It was a Friday and it was not crazy crowded.
Ruins of St. Paul’s
This was my second time to Macau and the first time I did not have enough time to see the ruins. This time I made it my main goal. It was just as cool as I hoped it would be. We got to take some amazing pictures and enjoyed a Starbucks on the steppes in the front. We were lucky with blue sky and sun and that just made the day even better. Lots of people.
Senado square
This street is super beautiful. It is very unique in Asia. I love to take photos and I enjoyed very much playing with the camera here. There were a lot of people however if you have patience you can get some photos with less people, so it looks like you are not there with thousands of other people. I just love the black and white tiles on the ground. Very European, very special.

Gubei Watertown - day trip out of Beijing
#urbanexplorer #daytrip #greatwall #gubeiwatertown
This water town by the foot of the Simatai section of the Great Wall is located in Miyun county. The town is surrounded by mountains, water and ancient style villages. This place has become more and more popular the recent years and we could feel that when walking around as there were a lot of people. The town is actually not that old but has been given characteristics as northern style architecture with history and culture of the late Qing dynasty. (1644-1911) the town is full of reconstructed buildings in courtyard style and hutong alleys.
We were recommended to be there at sunset so we opted to leave Dongzhimen at noon time and returned with the buss at nine in the evening. There are plenty of options to stay over night and I would like to do that next time.
Upon arrival you have to buy tickets to enter the gate and you will find signs for ticket office. In our entrance ticket we also got tickets for the Great Wall as well as the cable car to take you up.
Food - As we were starving when we arrived we found a place to eat by the river. Chinese home cooking style at a small restaurant where the owner also ran a bed and breakfast.
Local Liquor distillery - we had a quick look here, and it displays how they used to make their alcohol in the area.
Yongshun dye house - this is a good spot to take pictures with the different colors of the cloths hanging around. You can learn about cloth printing and dyeing here and even make your own prints into t shirts.
The last thing we did was taking the cable up to see the Great Wall at sunset. They run the cable during the evenings from 5:30 to until 22:00. We got a beautiful view and now I have seen a new part of the wall.
How to get there:
We simply took the bus from Dongzhimen. It was 49Rmb per person and we spent two hours to go there and one hour and 40 min to go back. This tourist bus from Dongzhimen leaves at 9:00, 12:00 and 15:30 and takes you all the way. Look for the bus: 古北水镇 Gubei Watertown. We paid after entering the bus. *They prefer cash but I think you may be able to pay with WeChat as well

A day in Redang Island 🏝️
Healing trip with best friend to Redang Island! 50 minutes boat ride from jetty in Penarik. This island is very stunning and spectacular. From the white powdery sand to the crystal blue water, everything is really captivating. We went snorkelling to the five check points including turtle point, there was only one little turtle appeared in front of us though, swimming with us. An interesting experience ever! Would love to go to this island again next time.

An oasis in old town Macau - Lou Lim Loc Garden
Macau is a lovely place for overnight visit or as day trip. While many of us are aware of the Portuguese influence in food and architecture, there are also some delightful gardens with Chinese designs.
We visited the Lou Lim loc Garden in the eastern part of the Macau peninsula. It is located just a few blocks north of the Guia lighthouse, and is a short 5 min drive from the Macau ferry terminal.
The garden was built in early 20th century by an influential businessman named Lou Kau who made his fortune from selling pork. The garden has a main pavilion with yellow facade, and the architectural design is with a mixture of Portuguese and Chinese aesthetic. The balcony in the back is particularly beautiful. The garden follows that of the Suzhou - style design. The nine curved bridge and pagoda sit in the back amongst the maze-like rock garden.
The Macau government took over the garden in 1973, and it is now opened to the public after a series of renovations. Locals and tourists can enjoy a walk in the beautiful park for free amongst the narrow streets of Macau.

Celebrating friendship with coffee
This coffee shop is called Ethiopian Bet. Located in Gangwon-do Korea and is accessible by subway. It is near Legoland.
They offer your usual coffee drinks and specialty beans from Ethiopia for an added cost. There is also a food menu but I did not order anything from it.
This coffee shop commemorates the relationship between Korea and Ethiopia, with emphasis during the Korean War. There is a museum across from the coffee shop where you can see the history of the two countries. Across the street you can also rent bikes to explore the area. If you prefer something on the water you can rent a paddle boat and leisurely stroll in the water nearby.
It is a good day trip from Seoul. #coffeeshop #coffee #friendship #history #daytrip #Ethiopiancoffee #AfricanandKorea #coffeelover #coffeehunting #koreanhistory

Ancient City of Ayutthaya…
This is a day trip that starts with a pre-dawn hotel pick-up. For late risers like myself, I promise it will be well worth the sleep deprivation, because the fact that so much has remained from something built in the 1300s will awaken all your senses with its very presence.
The ancient ruins of what used to be the second capital of Siam is a World Heritage site that deserves your time and attention. This day trip is hours better spent than any bargain bagging in Bangkok!

York is a city in northern Yorkshire, England. It is located between London and Edinburgh and just about 3 hours by train either way. York has a lot to see for a day trip, so definitely reserve 5-6 hours to walk around and enjoy a good lunch! For most people, the first thing to do when arriving to York by train is to walk the City Wall. Built in the 13th-14th Century, the York city wall has the most intact wall in all of England. walking along the wall will lead one to the city center where the St Mary’s Abbey, York Minister, the Shambles, Clifford Tower and as well the Railway Museum are located. The museum , Shambles and the Abbey are free to visit, while the York Minster and the Clifford Tower will require advanced booking. #urbanexplorer #england #york #daytrip
