Qingtiangang Grassland @ Yangmingshan
Qingtiangang Grassland is a picturesque alpine grassland located within Yangmingshan National Park in Taipei, Taiwan. It is located on the Qingtiangang Circular Trail which is a loop trail approximately 2.4 kilometers in length. I chose this trail to bring my two kids for a hike as it is relatively easy and suitable for hikers of all levels. The starting point of the trail can be reached from Taipei by taking Bus S15 from Jiantan Station (Taipei Performing Arts Center).
Qingtiangang Grassland is a popular destination for picnics, photography, and relaxation amidst nature's beauty. We took numerous photos on the grassland with the surrounding mountains and valleys as backdrop. We also spotted many buffalos grazing on the grassland.

Qingtiangang Circular Trail, Yangmingshan
The Qingtiangang Circular Trail is one of the scenic hiking trails in Yangmingshan National Park, Taiwan. I chose this trail to bring my two kids for a hike as it is relatively easy and suitable for hikers of all levels. It's a loop trail approximately 1.5 kilometers in length that takes us through the Qingtiangang Grassland which is known for its expansive grassy plains and picturesque scenery. Despite its short length, the trail offers beautiful views and a chance to immerse yourself in the natural beauty of Yangmingshan National Park.
My kids had a good workout hiking the trail. We finished the trail in under two hours with lots of photo stops throughout the hike.

Yang Ming Shan and Beitou Hot Springs
- Are you wondering if you can visit Yangmingshan and Beitou Hot Springs in a day? I tried to and this is what happened.
- Take the red line to Beitou and transfer to the extended line of Xinbeitou
- Take bus 230 from Daye Road on the half hour. It’s up a sloped hill.
- You’ll pass Beitou National Museum along the way if you want to stop there.
- Arrived at the final stop for Yangmingshan and walked up towards the visitor centre. The staff recommended against going up any further due to the typhoon and the place was empty except for a couple trying to retrieve a phone.
- I went back towards the stop I was at and walked around the nearby park and saw some men relaxing at a hot spring.
- There was a trail up to Mt. Shamao for 1.2km. It was steep and a little slippery due to the rain.
- The view at the top was nice but I couldn’t see everything due to the clouds. It reminded me of a wet and windy day back in Ireland.
- There is another trail for 1km downwards and this is where the trip on your shoes will be tested. I wore normal Nike runners and slipped a few times.
- Once I got back to the main road, I got the bus back down to the town centre of Beitou.
- I had to walk back a little bit for about 800m but I got to see the plum garden, thermal valley and I entered Beitou Public Hot Spring for 30NTD. I got this rate because I was able to prove that I was a teacher. There is also Taipei Public Library Beitou Branch which structurally looks very cool but I didn’t enter inside.
- You need to wear a specific bathing suit and a cap for entering the colder pools.
- There’s a locker for 20NTD that you can rent but it’s small so any big bag you have won’t fit.
- The hottest spring is between 40-45 degrees. My body wasn’t used to the temperatures so I rotated around them all for two loops.
- Once I cleaned myself up and left, I got the subway back downtown and got beef noodles in YongKang Street.
- It may not seem like much but I’ll it all added up throughout the day. You can definitely see Yangmingshan and Beitou yourself for far less than what some tours cost, but you have to plan it out well (I didn’t) and be up early. I headed there at about 11am and it was almost 7pm by the time I was leaving to go back downtown.
- Hope this helps and thanks for reading!

Post-Volcanic Geological Park in Taiwan
Yangmingshan National Park, a post-volcanic geological park in Taiwan is a famous tourist spot. You will get to see numerous greenery, wildlife, hiking trails, as well as sulphuric fumaroles, sulphur crystals, and hot springs.
The scenery of the park changes according to the seasons; during the flowering season in February and March, cherry blossoms fill the mountain slopes, welcoming Spring. There is a hiking trail that leads all the way up to the top of Qixing Mountain, offering the best view of Taipei city.
Consider a half to full day trip from Taipei city to discover the volcanic landforms of Yangmingshan National Park for educational and tourism purposes.

Summer Hike to Yangmingshan
Yangmingshan or Yangming Mountain national park, located between Taipei and New Taipei City. I did hike in the summer there, and the view was amazing. Best time to visit is on spring, because I read on many articles, Yangmingshan has pretty sakura on Spring season. Spend at least 2-3 hours there, although I think you may stay longer since it has a georgeous view! I went there by private car. But there are many options of transportation to get there like bus since it is a popular tourism spot in Taipei 🌳

Yangmingshan National Park
Yangmingshan National Park is one of the most attractive places in Taiwan, Taipei City.
There are various route to travel to Yangmingshan. The route that we took was to take via the Metro/MRT to Jiantan station and you will see a bus stop directly outside the station. From there, you will see a queue in the morning for R5 bus to Yangmingshan (estimate 45 min). Don’t be surprise if you see a long queue, the frequency of the buses are quite high. There’s a standing queue (站位) and a seating (坐位) queue, do queue at the wrong queue if you do not want to stand for the entire ride.
Once reached, there will be various routes for you to hike or take their buses up to the spot that you wanted to go. If you are unsure, you could check with the bus driver or local. They are very helpful!
There are unique kinds of beauty every season of the year. Depending on the time of the year which we went during March. March is the cherry blossom season which was one of the best period to spot cherry blossoms in Taiwan at 花锺 (Take internal bus 130). Once you are done, if you would like to continue with the sightseeing, you would have to return to the bus station which takes about 20mins walk back. Once you are back, take the 108 bus to continue the tour to various spots in Yangmingshan, few popular places are 竹子湖 and 小油坑.
Indeed, Yangmingshan should be on everyone’s bucket list when coming to Taiwan during cherry blossom season to see the beautiful flowers, waterfall, hiking and enjoy the scenery.

Taiwan Yang Ming Shan
Great escape from the hustle & bustle of the city life. Yang Ming Shan was a beauty with lots of places to visit such as the Qi Xing mountain (which you can do a quick 1hr hike up to the peak), and many others.
We took a bus up to yang ming shan from bei tou & it was an easier journey from there, or you can book a taxi service to bring you around yang ming shan as a hop on and hop off service!
We also visited the xiao you keng, where it smelled strongly of sulfur & if you visit at the right timing, you can even join in their flower festivals!
We visited this flower plantation and paid extra to do a picking of any flower that we’re interested in as well :)
you can easily spend the whole day at yangmingshan but we left before sunset :) #yangmingshan #taiwan #taipei #beitoutaiwan
Taiwan is always a funnplace
You can never run out of things to do in this city, and that’s why I will never grow tired of exploring it. It’s no wonder it has chosen as the best city in the world for expats several times!
Most visitors start and/or end their Taiwan trip in Taipei. It’s even tempting to use the city as a base for your whole trip (see my recommended hotels), but I do urge you to get out at some point#yangmingshan

Flower in the Farm at Yangmingshan
What a great view of Yangmingshan. Thanks to the cool temperatures and ample rain, the calla lily season at Zhuzihu on Yangmingshan lasts from March until May.
To reach Yangmingshan National Park from Taipei, you can follow these options:
By Bus 🚌: You can take Bus S15 from Taipei Main Station East Exit or Bus S17 from Jiantan MRT Station (Exit 1) to Yangmingshan Bus Station. From there, you can transfer to other buses within the park to reach various attractions.

By Tour: Joining a guided tour is another option, especially if you prefer the convenience of having transportation arranged for you and a knowledgeable guide to provide information about the park.
Once you arrive at Yangmingshan National Park, explore its various trails, hot springs, volcanic landscapes, and scenic viewpoints. Make sure to check the park's official website or inquire at the visitor center for updated information on transportation options and park regulations.

On my recent travel to Taiwan on the end of Feb2024 my family & I managed to sight this beautiful cherry blossom season over at Yangmingshan, unlike in Japan, Taiwan's cherry blossom season starts as early as January & ends in April so you will definetely have a higher chance to sight cherry blossom here😍 & I would say even the temperature here are more pleasant ranging from 18°C to 22°C at this time around when I was there😍

Yangmingshan Qingtiangang trip
Qingtian Post is located in Yangmingshan National Park in Taiwan. It is a lava terrace formed by the lava from Penny Mountain in the Datun Volcano Group flowing northwards.
The last time I went there was 20 years ago. The vast grassland still existed, but the number of cattle in my memory had decreased. The luckiest thing is that I have someone beside me who I can trust for the rest of my life.#Yangmingshan Qingtiangang
Rainy Tranquil at Yangmingshan National Park
Decided to make a visit to Yangmingshan in May but unfortunately it was drizzling when I alighted. So it's always good to keep checking on the weather to ensure your trip plans can follow though! However, it was also a silver lining as there wasn't many people walking around so it was rather peaceful and very tranquil with a cold breeze. Managed to spot some cows despite the mist and also walk through some of the iconic routes. Another key thing to note is it tends to be a tad slippery when there's a slight drizzle so do make sure you have the right shoes before embarking on your trip there!
A highly recommended place for a morning or early afternoon nature visit. The weather tends to be colder due to the higher altitude so be prepared!

YANGMINGSHAN AND BEITOU HOT SPRINGS
Are you thinking about a trip to Taipei in Taiwan anytime soon? Yangmingshan and Beitou are two places well worth visiting. In this blog post, I’ll share my experience. Keep reading to find out how I made it to Yangmingshan and Beitou Hot Springs on the same day. Both are located just outside of the city centre and they’re easily accessible from downtown. I’ll be honest, there was a typhoon when I visited so don’t expect instagrammable photos from this post but you’ll hopefully be back to make it to both locations.
GETTING THERE:
FROM DOWNTOWN TO YANGMINGSHAN
Take the red line to Beitou and transfer to the extended line of Xinbeitou. Take bus 230 from Daye Road on the half hour. It’s up a sloped hill. You’ll pass Beitou National Museum along the way if you want to stop there. I arrived at the final stop for Yangmingshan and walked up towards the visitor centre. The staff recommended against going up any further due to the typhoon and the place was empty, except for a couple trying to retrieve a phone.
I went back towards the stop I was at and walked around the nearby park and saw some men outside relaxing at a hot spring. There was a trail up to Mt. Shamao for 1.2km. It was steep and a little slippery due to the rain. The view at the top was nice but I couldn’t see everything due to the clouds. It reminded me of a wet and windy day back home. There is another trail for 1km downwards and this is where the trip on your shoes will be tested. I wore normal Nike runners and slipped a few times.
FROM YANGMINGSHAN TO BEITOU
Once I got back to the main road, I got the bus back down to the town centre of Beitou. I had to walk back a little bit for about 800m but I got to see the plum garden, thermal valley and I entered Beitou Public Hot Spring for 30NTD. I got this rate because I was able to prove that I was a teacher! Just bring some form of ID or something school related with your name on it.
There is also Taipei Public Library Beitou Branch which structurally looks very cool but I didn’t enter inside. Also, you need to wear a specific bathing suit and a cap for entering the colder pools. There’s a locker for 20NTD that you can rent but it’s small so any big bag you have won’t fit. The hottest spring is between 40-45 degrees. My body wasn’t used to the temperatures so I rotated around them all for two loops.
HEADING BACK DOWNTOWN:
Once I cleaned myself up and left, I got the subway back downtown and got beef noodles in YongKang Street. It may not seem like much but it all added up throughout the day. You can definitely see Yangmingshan and Beitou yourself for far less than what some tours cost, but you have to plan it out well (I didn’t) and be up early. I headed there at about 11am and it was almost 7pm by the time I was leaving to go back downtown.
While the weather wasn’t great, it was still a great day trip and I felt like I still got to see quite a bit. Thanks for reading! #solotravel #taipei #beitou #yangmingshan
Yang Ming Mountain
Yang Ming Mountain is one of the most famous hiking destinations in Taipei. It’s also easy access, to get to the Yang Ming Mountain from taipei you can just take a bus directly from taipei to the main attraction which is the grassland, you can see buffalo here and also there are several hiking trail located near the grassland! definitely worth it and must try! #yangmingshan #taiwan
Yangmingshan Cherry Blossom Season
#taipei #cherryblossom #yangmingshan
I visited the Yangmingshan National Park during the Cherry Blossom season. There are a few areas in the park where you can catch the beautiful Cherry Blossom spots around the park, and there are quite a number of cherry blossom species in the park too such as the Cold Cherry, Yaezakura, and the Yoshino cherry. Other than the Cherry Blossom, I got to see the beautiful Wisteria blooming next to the Cherry Blossom near the bus station too.
Cherry Blossoms at Taipei
Free and easy at Taipei this cherry blossom season? Hop on to bus 260 (Hua Zhong, Flower Clock) at Taipei Main Station’s bus stop! This bus service operates specially for us to visit Yang Ming Shan for the flowers, making an extra stop at Yang Ming Shan Flower Clock. It comes once every hour.
I visited in late February 2023.

I went to #Taiwan for Gay Pride in October’19. Last 3 days, I had to stay there on my own and I decide d to go to #yangmingshan. The weather up in the mountains was not clear in that day (Even I already checked the weather forecast, I don’t believe it. just wish I have a a luck). All surrounding by fog and rain. However, I still felling happy to go there and will definitely going there for rain check again. My suggestion -> check the weather before you go, and believe the forecast is accurate!!
