Taining is a small town in the Northern part of Fujian province, China. It is surrounded by beautiful bamboo forests and lakes. The most popular being the Big Golden Lake. There are plenty of sights to see around the lake, including Baxian cliff, Jinrao mountain and a beautiful natural waterfall. My personal favorite was Ganlu Rock Temple. It is a temple built into the caves of the mountain. The architecture and construction is breathtaking, and people used to live there. Our tour guide believes that the monks still live there today. The temple is situated in the mountain, so be prepared to climb a few steps. The temple and other attractions are not accessible by car, so one needs to take a guided boat tour to get there. The boat departs from the docks in Jiaojiao Fishing Village (10 minute taxi ride from Taining town), and the tour is 3 hours. The boat stops at 3 scenic spots, where you will have plenty of time to explore the sights. Taining is perfect for a leisure weekend filled with history and culture. Shangshu Lane Historical and Cultural District is located in the core area of the ancient city of Taining County, Sanming City, Fujian Province, and has a history of more than 400 years. It is currently the best-preserved Ming Dynasty residential architecture in the Jiangnan region of China, covering a total area of 13,000 square meters, with the Shangshu Residence and the Shide Hall as the two main buildings. The Shangshu Residence was announced as the third batch of national key cultural relics protection units in 1988, and the Shide Hall was incorporated into the Shangshu Residence architectural complex and announced as the fifth batch of national key cultural relics protection units in 2001. The overall architectural scale is grand, dignified and elegant, with a rigorous layout and exquisite craftsmanship. It not only draws on the grandeur of the official buildings in the capital but also integrates elements of the local mansion-style architecture, forming the unique 'three halls and nine buildings' traditional brick-wood structure architectural pattern of Taining.

After strolling through the ancient town of Taining in the morning, we arrived at Shangqingxi

We took a bamboo raft and drifted down the stream. Shangqingxi is 16 kilometers long and the drifting takes nearly 2 hours, which is perfect for relieving the fatigue of walking in the morning. Watching the steep mountains on both sides and listening to the humorous explanations of the boatmen, it was very pleasant. Shangqingxi is located in a deep mountain canyon area, with a large drop in the river, rapid water flow, more than ten meters wide at its widest and less than two meters at its narrowest, leaving only a slit of sky and just enough room for a single raft to pass through. The geology here is composed of ancient continental sedimentary rocks, and the Danxia landform formed by the red stone group is varied and spectacular, with strange peaks and caves, and sheer cliffs everywhere. After getting off the raft, we heard that we could take a night tour of Jiulongtan. Jiulongtan is part of the most dense and complex Chinese Danxia canyon group, a typical area of the development of the Danxia landform during the youth period of Taining, integrating lakes, streams, mountains, valleys, rocks, peaks, and gullies with diverse changes, known as the 'miniature pearl of Taining Danxia landscape'. Jiulongtan is also the spot we have been longing to visit. We thought we wouldn't have time to play, but it turns out that we can also take a night tour, which is a pleasant surprise, allowing us to experience the Danxia peaks under the light and shadow. Taining Ancient Town

Taining Ancient Town is a convenient stop while visiting the Great Golden Lake, as the ancient town is located near the tourist distribution center. However, only when you approach the ancient town do you realize that Taining has long been known as the 'Ancient Town of Han and Tang Dynasties, and the Famous City of the Two Song Dynasties.' Through continuous development, it reached its current scale by the Ming Dynasty. Taining Ancient Town is the best-preserved Ming Dynasty residential complex in the southern Yangtze region, and the 'Shangshu Di' architectural complex within the town is a national key protected unit.

Ganlu Rock Temple in Taining

There is a temple in Fujian Province that is hidden in a natural cave on a cliff, and it has been more than 870 years since its establishment. This temple is the Ganlu Rock Temple located in Taining County, Fujian Province. It is situated on the west bank of Jinhu Lake and was founded in the sixteenth year of the Shaoxing period during the Song Dynasty. The Ganlu Rock Temple adopts a unique structural architecture of 'a single pillar thrust into the ground, without the need for a single tile.' It uses 'inserted arches' with 'T'-shaped arch heads connected without the use of iron nails. The craftsmanship is exquisite, ingeniously integrating with nature, and the carved beams and painted rafters have a style of their own. It is a masterpiece in the history of Chinese architecture, thus famous both at home and abroad. In the spring of 1961, due to the carelessness of an elderly nun living in the temple, the temple was reduced to ashes overnight. What we see today of the Taining Ganlu Temple is just a replica made afterward.

Yixiantian, also known as 'Slanting Sky,' is an inclined rock fracture that has been curved and elongated by years of water erosion and weathering. The crevice is narrow like a seam, and by climbing up from 'Slanting Sky,' one can reach the top and then descend along another valley about 50 meters high, creating a 'one slant, one straight' natural landscape that is truly magical and rare. Shili Pinghu, the most open water surface of Golden Lake, is 8 kilometers long from north to south, 3 kilometers wide from east to west, and more than 60 meters deep. Surrounded by mountains and dotted with islands, the water merges with the sky, the wind sways the grass, the water moves the mountains, and it is refreshing to the mind and spirit. Zhaixia Grand Canyon is located in Zhaixia Village, 15 kilometers northwest of Taining County in Fujian. The scenic area is characterized by Danxia landforms, with deep and serene valleys, towering cliffs; dense vegetation, and a tranquil environment, resembling a paradise on earth. The roads in the canyon are well constructed, with some parts paved with wooden planks and others with floor tiles, with most sections being gentle. At the top of the mountain, there is a barrier lake, named for the accumulation of collapsed cliffs that dammed the river to form a lake, also known as Yanqi Lake or Cuizhu Lake. The lake water is quiet and cool, with sheer cliffs on one side and dense bamboo on the other, creating a strong contrast. Jingu Temple in the scenic area is a Ming Dynasty temple built against the mountain. Due to its location in the deep mountains, it does not receive many visitors. Shangqing Stream is 12 kilometers from the county town, mainly offering bamboo rafting tours. The rafting distance is 16 kilometers, taking about 2 hours. The scenery on both sides of the stream is very beautiful, with birds not shying away from people, and voices echoing through the valley. The bamboo raft winds through the uninhabited red rocks and verdant peaks, with the sound of water filling the ears and beautiful scenery in sight.
