AN UNDERRATED CAVE IN TANAY, RIZAL.
I didn’t plan to visit Tanay, Rizal but my itchy feet took me there.
My original plan was to travel to Romblon but since I was not able to catch the last ferry, I decided to go to the nearest natural area from Manila. I’m lucky to catch the last Van going to Tanay and found a place to stay at Ellen’s Balcony.
The next morning I took a tricycle going to Calinawan Cave and I was the only person who’s about to explore the place that time. Or maybe people now are not interested in caving adventures?
I don’t see a lot of posts about Calinawan cave and i think it’s underrated.
I was amazed by its history and the tour became even more fun because of my awesome tour guide Jhepoy Matalino. The cave was really enchanting! It’s one of Tanay’s hidden gems! 💎
My caving adventure won’t be memorable without him.
Have you been to this cave before? Share your experience!🦇

One of the best Overlooking coffee shop!
Coffee and nature are the best forms of therapy. It is one of life's simple pleasures that we can enjoy alone, with friends, or most of the time with family.
This is one of the best coffee shop you can find in Tanay,Rizal!
Kape Natividad Roastery and Cafe is known for its affordable coffee and pugon pizza and is located in Marikina-Infanta Hwy, Sampaloc, Tanay, Rizal. They serve excellent food and have a spectacular view of the clouds and mountains.
Aside from their coffee and pizza, my recommendations and personal favorites here are the Mixed Berries Smoothie, Silog meals, and Sinigang na baboy. Affordable price and Great food!

Introduction
Mt. Kulis is a beginner-friendly mountain located in Sitio Maysawa, Barangay Cuyambay, Tanay, Rizal. It offers scenic views of the Sierra Madre mountain range and beautiful scenery of the famous attractions. Mt. Kulis’ height is 620 MASL while Sambong Peak height is 629 MASL. Because of its proximity to Manila, the view of Noah’s Ark and the sea of clouds, it’s become one of the most popular hiking destinations and camping sites.
The Filipino hiking group buzzed when a photo of a newly discovered mountain in Tanay, Rizal surfaced on the internet in the year 2019. Mt. Kulis became popular among the hikers and locals because it is where the ABS-CBN’s TV series “Ang Probinsyano” was set as a shooting area before it finally opened to the public. The house that stands at the summit of Mt. Kulis was the house of Cardo Dalisay in the TV series.

Hike more, worry less
This peak, located in the Rizal Mountains, is most famed for the ethereal views that those who trek to its summit are rewarded with. (*Yup! Another one where you can get above the clouds is this one.) You'll need to get out of bed very early to catch a glimpse of this ethereal natural phenomenon, as the effect is most pronounced around sunrise.
The trail to the peak is straightforward, though steep at points, and deserves a Maculot-like 3/9 difficulty rating. The journey down the waterfalls, on the other hand, includes short portions of rock hiking, which adds to the effort and raises the difficulty level to 4/9 if completed in its entirety. Muddiness will almost certainly be a factor throughout the rainy season. So be a bit extra careful.

Nature-lovers, if you need a breather from the city, Tanay in Rizal is your next must-visit spot! 🌲⛺️ Think rolling green hills, moody skies, and total nature vibes—ideal for camping and that fresh air fix.
Must-See & Do’s:
1. Tanay’s Signature Campsites (like 89 rain , Treasure Mountain, Lambingan Hills, or Camp Sandugo)
Wake up to panoramic mountain views and sea of clouds. Best to set up your tent at golden hour for that IG-worthy snap! Most campsites are just a 2-3 hour drive from Manila.
2. Mesa de Maitre or Nagpatong Rock
Perfect for a morning hike if you’re up for adventure. Trail is beginner-friendly and guides are usually available on site. Get there early to beat the crowds!
3. The Art Sector Gallery & Chimney Café 360°
For a chill afternoon post-hike, this artsy spot has striking Rizal scenery and great coffee. Closed Mondays, open til sunset—time your visit for that golden hour glow.
Insider Tips 🚙🌦️:
· Weather changes fast in Tanay. I got both rain AND sunshine on the same day; pack quick-dry clothes and a poncho, trust me!
· Campsites can be muddy after rain—choose elevated ground to pitch your tent and bring extra ground sheets.
· No need for high-end gear; just bring the essentials for comfort and expect to disconnect (cell signal is patchy in some areas).
· Entry and camping fees usually range from ₱150–₱400 per head. Always call ahead or book on trip.com!
Getting Around:
Hire a car or motorbike for max flexibility—public transport exists but can be limited at night.
Food:
Try simple local carinderias (think: silog breakfast, grilled tilapia), or bring your own grilling supplies!

Dreaming of an epic unplugged adventure? 🌙 Tanay’s TO THE MOON CAMPSITE is where it’s at! Escape city stress and wake up to wild beauty, sunrise seas of clouds, and endless forest vibes 🌲✨ The coolest highlight: seeing mountains flush with low-hanging clouds at dawn—a must for nature-obsessed souls.
Must-See Spot:
TO THE MOON CAMPSITE
Address: Barangay Sittio Ibucao, Tanay, Rizal, Philippines
This place is pure rustic—think rope net fences, wooden cabins, and no tech distractions. Early birds, bring your camera for jaw-dropping sunrise shots: clouds cover the peaks, with surreal forests and mist all around. Expect to totally reset your brain and feel that deep calm only nature gives.
Pro Tips:
Don’t expect luxury—pack your own food, extra drinking water, and maybe a portable charger since power is limited. 🍃 Forget WiFi, but bring a jacket (temps drop before dawn) and hiking shoes for exploring. It’s best for groups loving simple campfire dinners and quiet under the stars. Getting here is an adventure: take a private car or motorbike for max flexibility, as public transport is rare and cell service can be spotty.
How To Get Around:
Private rides rule here, but try to team up and carpool to save on gas and help the planet. No need for cash except small local stores, so stash pesos for basics.
Food Tip:
Cook your own: classic grilled meats or veggie skewers are perfect for campsite meals. There’s usually fresh produce at roadside stalls on the way.
Key Destination Tips:
Check the weather before you go—rain makes roads tricky! Book ahead with trip.com to secure a slot, since walk-ins might not be accepted. Visa not needed for most tourists.

"Pray, Rest, Mesmerize,d and Admire the Scenic Place"
Very organized, lots of security personnel, and volunteers!
Relaxing and refreshing.
There is a place for everything: the parking area is good; Rest room is acceptable 😀; the food is quite expensive, but nevertheless it's good.
The trail uphill to Mama Mary is enough to reflect on yourself 🙏
They offer a prayer for your family for a love offering of P20 per family name.
If you want to leave your footprint, a love offering of P500.00
Also available are the relics: candle, rosary, etc.
I didn't have the chance to ask why they used Ilongo words for
Kubo & Kainan and other amenities inside the RICA.
Maybe the administrator or head Nun is Ilongo? 😀
For commuters;
Go to Shaw and look for a jeepney -P58.00or a van-P70.00 bound to Tanay, hop to Tanay Terminal and look for the Sampaloc Jeep -P27 going to Regina Rica, then hop to the highway with the "Regina Rica" sign. Tricycle going to RICA is P20.00 per head (capacity of 5-6 ), but if you want to rent, P120.00

Mt. Maynoba - Amazing waterfalls

I had a somewhat difficult time climbing this mountain. Probably because it's my first time after so many months of no climbing. We climbed the easy trail because we wanted to see the sea of clouds. But the weather wasn't that good, or maybe we didn't bring the right camera. There are a lot of spots for photo ops, like this big rock, before going to the falls.
What I love the most are the falls. There are eight falls in all. My friends had a good time swimming. Before going back to the jump-off point, you can see a sari-sari store that sells buko juice. They also have a cr so for those who wanted to change their wet clothes, you can do it here. But mind you, it's not for 'maarte' people. Plus, the vendor is very accommodating.

Batlag Falls - Clean water falls

This is one of our favourite places in the Philippines. A great day trip, pack a picnic, take lots of water, and cash to pay for the entry fee. The water is glowing aqua, and the Forest jungle tumbles off the surrounding cliff faces, and you feel as though you are in some sort of magical land. You will swear there are water fairies flittering around here. It is great to take visitors on a day trip too. These falls are a little less crowded than Big Brother Falls, Daranak, because it is further to walk, but totally worth it. There are no good facilities, so be prepared for that and be sure to arrive early to beat the heat and the crowds. Went there in the morning. I love this place, go deeper into the lagoon, cuz it’s much more private and deep in the woods. Our guide Peter was the best, he even lent me his slippers cuz I went there with Converse LOL my bro had so much fun in the ice cold spring water.

Real natural beauty spot for all ages. Fresh clean air and nice park after the bridge, I am senior and found out the comfortable stay within the area. There are not much ups and downs before you see the waterfalls. Unless you like to swim, then you go down to the streaming waters. Viewing from the deck was already a fantastic experience. Contented and pleased with this trip amidst the traffic while nearing Metro Manila. We took our chances to visit this place despite a late morning decision to visit tanay. so glad we did even though we saw most of the people coming in are in their swimwear carrying picnic foods. we were clad in jeans and rubber shoes! 😝 had we known, we could have prepares to take a dip.
the natural pool which is the catch basin of daranak is an eye candy. lots of people are enjoying the water despite the cold. this made us felt more jealous all the more. for a 75 pesos entrance fee, this is really a bargain.
we will definitely come back to this place soon.

This is a pilgrimage site and is worth the drive. Filipino rewarding site that is worth it. s are terrible drivers, and the trip can be a bit stressful. The tricycle drivers, especially. They don't understand slow traffic stays right or anything else, but the trip is beautiful for certain. The site is also beautiful and opens at 8 and closes at 5. So you can spend all day there, and it is emotional. It is always desirable to renew your vows and religiosity, and the gift shop which only accepts cash, has many things for a blessed home and person. For Catholics, this is a MUST!

Masungi Georeserve - A perfect nature escape

Our visit to Masungi Georeserve was truly unforgettable. I went with my friends, and we all had a great time exploring the area and learning about its rich history and the inspiring conservation efforts behind it. The staff were incredibly warm and welcoming, and our guide was not only very friendly but also deeply knowledgeable about the landscape, wildlife, and the mission of the reserve.
The georeserve itself is stunning—from the unique rock formations to the breathtaking views of the neighboring towns from the higher points of the trail. We were impressed by how clean and well-maintained everything was. The structures and pathways were thoughtfully integrated into the natural geography, allowing us to enjoy the experience without disturbing the environment.
We also appreciated the efforts to preserve native flora and fauna. It was clear that Masungi is a space dedicated to healing nature and educating visitors about sustainable living. Even the food was amazing, which added to the overall experience.
Masungi Georeserve is a beautiful, meaningful place worth visiting. It's not just about the adventure—it’s about understanding and supporting the important work being done to protect our natural heritage.
