Tarnów is located in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship in southeastern Poland, about 70-80 kilometers from Krakow, with a population of approximately 106,000. Founded as a fortified city by the Tarnów family in 1330, it flourished under General Jan Tarnowski in the 16th century, becoming known as the "Pearl of the Polish Renaissance." The Old Town boasts a well-preserved Renaissance Town Hall, the Gothic Tarnów Cathedral, colorful arcades, and medieval squares. Once an important Jewish community, it suffered severe damage during World War II. Ethnographic Museum (Tarnow)
The Ethnographic Museum, a branch of the District Museum in Tarnów, is housed in a classicist, historic manor house. An unquestionable attraction of the place is the only permanent exhibition about Roma in Poland.
It is located in the city center in a historic eighteenth-century manor house at 10 Krakowska Street. The manor house used to be an inn and then a residential house. It belonged to the Onitsch family, who in the 1920s sold the building to the city for a theater, which was built elsewhere. The museum presents the traditional folk culture of the Tarnów region. It also has a section dedicated to Roma history and culture. In the courtyard, an outdoor exhibition is organized seasonally, consisting of picturesque wagons from the famous Gypsy wagons. The Roma collection was established in Tarnów in 1979, when the first Roma-themed exhibition in Poland was organized here. In addition, during temporary exhibitions, the museum invites you to learn about the cultures of other nations. The museum is the organizer of popular competitions, including the Painted Cottage in Zalipie competition and the "Easter Egg Competition and Ritual Art Competition", and also conducts educational activities in the form of museum lessons and art workshops, during which it promotes regional traditions.

Town hall in Tarnów
The Town Hall in Tarnów - a historic building located in the middle of the Tarnów Market Square. One of the most characteristic buildings of the city and one of its symbols. Originally, it was the seat of the city council and the vogt-jury court. Since 1931, it has been the seat of the museum. The building is an example of Mannerist architecture growing out of the Renaissance. The town hall is located on the Renaissance Route in Lesser Poland.
A joint exhibition of the Diocesan Museum and the City of Tarnów has opened in the halls of the town hall. Works of art, collections of libraries and archives from abandoned palaces and mansions were stored and secured there. The largest part was the collection from the Sanguszko Palace in Gumniska.
In 2006, a "time capsule" was opened - a lead container placed in a sphere on the town hall tower in 1927, containing documents, banknotes and coins of the denominations used in that year. After the ball was renovated, a "shipment into the future" was put inside it.
