Flying saves many hours compared with travelling overland. Here is my practical guide to the domestic departure area of Sandakan Airport. How early should you arrive? For a domestic flight, I recommend arriving around 1.5–2 hours before departure. The airport itself is compact and easy to navigate, but check-in and baggage-drop lines can still become busy.
