Back then, the beaches of Thoddoo were still undeveloped. I remember when I emerged from a wild coconut grove, the scene suddenly lit up before my eyes. Oh my god! A whole stretch of Tiffany blue lagoon was spread out right in front of me. It turned out that the Maldives I had imagined looked just like this place~ Its beauty shouldn’t be confined to just my camera lens. I want to share this treasure island with everyone. Some say the prices in the Maldives need to be lowered. I want to say, the Maldives itself isn’t expensive. Spending a week on Thoddoo Island can be done for just a few thousand yuan per person. If you come in the off-season and just lie on the beach every day without going out to sea, splitting hotel costs between two people, honestly, you won’t even spend 3,000 yuan in a week. This is the real cost of living on a Maldives local island. I have witnessed it with my own eyes: paradise doesn’t have to be expensive. I have been to more local islands than most local workers. I know which island has the most beautiful trailing sand beaches, which coral reef has the most fish for snorkeling, which island’s lagoon looks the best, and which island still preserves authentic local culture. Every island has its own strengths and weaknesses. When I see the very popular Maafushi and Fulidhoo on social media, I feel that Thoddoo Island should not be overlooked. With anticipation, I set foot on this pristine land, embarking on a dreamlike journey into slow time. Upon arrival, the sun shone brilliantly, the white sand soft as cotton beneath my feet, and the azure blue of the ocean washed over me. The gentle lapping of waves against the shore created a rhythmic sound, like an ancient, melodious song, soothing the restlessness within me. Strolling along the coastline, coral reefs shimmered beneath the shallows, teeming with colorful tropical fish. Their graceful movements resembled musical notes dancing in the water. I couldn't resist donning my diving gear and plunging into this blue world. I swam alongside sea turtles, watching them glide effortlessly, and encountered playful dolphins, feeling the joy and wonder they brought. In the depths of the ocean, time seemed to lose all meaning as I reveled in exploring the wonders of life and enjoying the intimacy with nature. Back on shore, the afternoon unfolded in lazy tranquility. Thatched-roof huts nestled among coconut trees exuded a rustic charm. I settled into a lounge chair with a book in hand, the sea breeze gently turning the pages as my thoughts drifted away. Glancing up, I watched the sun slowly descend over the horizon, painting the sky in vibrant hues of orange and red. In that moment, the world was bathed in a soft, dreamlike glow. Nightfall brought tranquility to Thoddoo Island. The night sky glittered with stars like sparkling gems. Lying on the beach, gazing at the vast expanse above, I listened to the whispers of the waves, my heart filled with peace. Here, there were no city lights, no busy work schedules, no pressures of daily life, only the pure beauty of nature. The islanders lived simple, happy lives, their smiles as radiant as the sun. I visited the local village, conversing with them, savoring their homemade food, and experiencing their zest for life. Their simple and genuine approach to life deepened my understanding of the meaning of travel. On Thoddoo Island, every moment felt elongated. I stopped chasing time and instead walked alongside it. Here, I listened to the gentle whispers of the ocean, felt the magic of nature and the miracle of life. This slow-time journey was a sanctuary found amidst the hustle and bustle of the world, a treasure I will forever cherish.

For anyone who finds themselves on the island and doesn't know what to do, I definitely recommend this 4-in-1 excursion: manta rays, nurse sharks, a sandbar (near Mathiveri), and a coral garden with fish. (The sharks are truly harmless, but safety precautions are key!) This is an incredible experience you'll remember for a lifetime!!! The price is $75 per person. Departure is early in the morning around 6:30 AM. Life jackets, fins, and masks are all provided. Snacks and water are included. Duration is approximately 6 hours. Drone and GoPro photography and video recording are also included. A photo on a shell costs the photographer an additional $10. The next day, they send you a link to a disc with all the photos and videos. Important!!!! A wonderful local island 🏝️ Arriving on the island 10 years after my first stay on Thoddoo, I was shocked by how much the island had developed and how much had been done for tourists. A ton of restaurants had opened, the bikini beach had been expanded, and all the amenities were available (changing rooms, restrooms, showers, fruit and juice stands, sun lounger rentals, and various water sports). Once here, anyone would instantly forget their problems and worries. Here, you truly relax, body and soul. There are a lot of people, but that doesn't interfere with your relaxation at all, and you can always find a secluded spot if you desire 🥰 A multitude of guesthouses and hotels for every taste and budget allows absolutely everyone to find what they desire. Transfers: twice a day, 10 and 16 hours a day First impressions: greener than many other islands, a beautiful island Food: -lots of fresh and delicious fruit -at the first cafe: the waiter was a Russian guy, why did he use the informal "tyu"? We got food poisoning and never went back. -I had my first decent meal in Astra. A little expensive, but really tasty. -at the "selo poeli" (meal) it was average. It's edible) They try to rip you off in the shops. Not pleasant. Beach: fiery fire, turtles, moray eels, stingrays. People: lots of out-of-town vendors and workers. A bit scary to walk around in the evening. Tourists: only Russians with all the attendant problems, like occupied spots in the shade with towels and on shared swings🫩 Hotel: We stayed in a wonderful hotel. A buggy took us to the fishing spot. We selected this guesthouse based on reviews, and we couldn't have been happier — everything was spot-on. We opted for accommodation with meals, and special thanks go to the chef, Hasan. The food was exceptional, with generous portions — we were always satisfied. Hasan thoughtfully accommodated our food preferences, introduced us to local Maldivian flavors, and even served whole fresh fish several times, which was absolutely delicious. Every meal included fresh fruits. On New Year’s Eve, we were treated to a grand seafood platter. The owner, Ali, is incredibly welcoming and attentive. He personally greeted us at the port upon arrival and provided free bicycles and snorkeling gear (masks, fins, and containers) whenever we needed them. Beach towels were replaced daily, and the rooms were cleaned every day. The rooms themselves were cozy, pleasantly cool, and offered hot water along with a distinctive open-air shower. We stayed here to celebrate a birthday and New Year, and Ali created two amazing surprises: a beautifully decorated room with a birthday cake and a complimentary romantic sunset dinner by the beach — an unforgettable memory. Bottled water, tea, and a coffee machine with fresh beans were available round the clock. Holiday Cottage Thoddoo is a truly special place, filled with warmth and hospitality. We can't wait to visit again!

The sea water at Thoddoo Island is simply breathtaking. This is a place I've visited once and will definitely come back to! Compared to the other local islands I've been to, the beach facilities here are much more complete, with sun umbrellas, lounge chairs, freshwater showers, and changing rooms, all provided free of charge to tourists by the island. The beach is very clean, and crucially, there are very few Chinese tourists, so you won't be crowded when taking photos. You can see many sea turtles and schools of fish by snorkeling directly from the beach, whereas on many local islands, you have to pay dozens of dollars for a boat trip to see sea turtles. This is particularly friendly for tourists on a budget. Not far from the main island, there's also a very long sandbank. When we chartered a boat to go there, we basically didn't encounter any other tourists; the entire sandbank belonged to us, and we could play however we wanted. Currently, most of the tourists on the island are Europeans and Americans, and not many Chinese people know about this place yet. If you also love large lagoon islands and Thoddoo Island's Tiffany blue waters, it definitely won't disappoint.

This was our maiden trip to the Maldives. My wife and I kicked off our journey at Thoddoo Island. I spent quite some time picking a place to stay since we're young students with a tight budget. Royal Stay Inn gave us the best deal. We stayed here for four days. Comfort in sleeping was crucial for us (the bed was spacious and very pleasant), air conditioning (it functioned well), and bathroom facilities (all functioned perfectly and were clean). They checked daily if we needed our linen or towels changed, and the room was tidied up each day. Wi-Fi speed was satisfactory; it allowed us video calls and video downloads, with the signal stronger outside than in the room. Having three meals a day was vital so we wouldn't have to hunt for restaurants. The food was varied and tasty daily; we ate to our heart's content and never had to seek food elsewhere. All meals were served at the restaurant nearby the guest house, where the staff was extremely courteous and welcoming. Thoddoo Island itself captivated us with its natural beauty. We traveled around the island on bicycles. Overall, our experience at Royal Stay Inn and Thoddoo Island went beyond our expectations. I will surely suggest this spot to friends and return myself!

Such a comfortable and homely vibe at this hotel guesthouse. Their inhouse restaurant is amazing too. The cool environment, shaded by plenty of trees, made it the perfect spot to relax and unwind in the heat of the day. Our rooms were clean and service perfect. We highly recommend the Quinoa Salad— fresh, flavorful, and really satisfying. The staff were friendly and welcoming, though service was a bit slow, so do come with a little patience. I didn't go around much, nor did the island hopping. all i do is enjoy the SUNSET, beach and tanning. Occasionally i go for snorkeling which is amazing!! The water is crystal clear. I stayed in Thoddoo which is a green island, water was very warm and tide was a little higher so it is very hard to swim. i get to go around with bike and it was actually nice. but, the island is actually very warm not much breeze if you are inland. I decided to go to Rasdhoo on my second last day before heading back to Male. Rasdhoo was amazing 😍 water temperature is perfect, i get to the snorkeling and so many fishes. The tide wasn't as strong as the one in Thodhoo. The day I was heading back to Male, i tried to find places to swim as well but no luck. They lacked bikini beach as well. But, they have this 1 spot where sort of like a "build public swimming pool" with salt water come and go. You get to snorkeling as it is quite deep and I get to see alotttttt of nice fishes ☺️ I think this is one of the best snorkeling that i did by myself. I would still love to come back next time, and stay on a different island. Perhaps, Dhiffushi? or any other different Atol.
