However it really is not as expensive as you would think. 🏝️ The ferry from the airport to mainland, Male is less than $1 and takes 10 minutes 🌴 A boat to one of the local islands is only $3 for the slow public boat that takes around 2-3 hours depending on what island you visit (only leaves once a day). Alternatively you can get a speedboat for $25pp and it takes 30mins and leaves multiple times a day. 🏝️ Beachfront accommodation is as low as $50 a night and tends to include free use of snorkel equipment and bikes. Over time, you begin to perceive these sharks as ordinary large fish. 😜 Reef sharks are fast, graceful, slightly shy, and completely harmless to humans. They are not aggressive and simply circle nearby, as if studying you in return, or swim away in fear. 🦈 Nurse sharks are true couch potatoes. They usually rest peacefully on the bottom and barely move. They can be seen at special spots – in shallow water near sandbanks. 🚤 How to get on a tour Almost every island offers a tour: either group snorkeling or a private trip. The program usually includes several spots: sharks, rays, and a coral reef. The cost starts from $50, depending on the island. We took a tour from Maafushi Island for $70. ❗️Safety rules for snorkeling with sharks: ❌ Don't wave your arms or make any sudden movements. It's best to clasp your hands in front of you or behind your back. ❌ Don't touch the sharks, even if they get very close. #maldives

How to get there: 🚤 by speedboat in just 25 minutes ⛴ or by public ferry in an hour for $2. 🌊 What's so special? Thulusdhoo is an iconic spot among surfers. It's home to two world-class surf spots: Chickens and Cokes. The waves here are jokingly called "only for the brave." Several other famous spots are nearby: Ninjas, Sultans, and Honkys. If you're an experienced surfer, this is the place for you. 🍹 Fun fact: the island is home to a unique Coca-Cola factory—the only one in the world that uses desalinated seawater to produce beverages. 🐠 Atmosphere and Relaxation Near the shore, there's a fairly decent reef, Thingri Point, with plenty of fish and beautiful corals. If you're lucky, you might even spot dolphins swimming near the island. From the long pier near Bikini Beach, you can admire the sunset and the passing rays, manta rays, reef sharks, and colorful fish. 🏖 The beach at Thulusdhoo is well-maintained and pleasant: sun loungers, photo zones, a cafe, and a calm entry into the water (coral slippers are not necessary). Most guesthouses and hotels are located right on the beachfront, overlooking the turquoise ocean. ⚠️ Cons In my opinion, the tropical island's aesthetic is spoiled by the busy multi-story buildings and breakwaters located near the shore, as well as the large industrial zone (Coca-Cola factory). There were quite a lot of tourists. Overall, Thulusdhoo is an ideal choice if you're looking for an active holiday, surfing, and a quick transfer from Male. #maldivestrip Villa Kudi was a wonderful stay with fantastic service throughout. A special shoutout to the receptionist (unfortunately, we didn’t catch his name) who assisted us in many ways from the moment we arrived until our departure. Even before our trip, they reached out to confirm our arrival time and helped connect us with the speedboat operator, making the booking process seamless. Upon arrival, we were picked up and warmly welcomed with helpful information about the island and nearby food spots. The room was clean, tidy, and comfortable. Breakfast was simple but delicious. A: You can, but it requires sufficient time and budget. As mentioned earlier, these small islands are located in different atolls, and the distances between atolls are often quite far with limited suitable transportation connections. If you randomly combine islands, most likely you will have to return to the capital Malé city to transfer boats (speedboats and public ferries). Especially for those planning to save money by only taking public ferries, public ferries do not run daily, and even if they do, there is usually only one trip per day, which is often canceled due to weather. Also, only fixed routes are available, making random combinations difficult to connect... So this requires higher demands on time and budget (this will be explained in detail in the transportation section later). For a normal single trip, these recommendations follow a “straight line” route without backtracking. (With a popular island as the main target + some less popular ordinary islands along the way) Note: Islands in parentheses are other islands where the public ferry on the same route stops.
