Same red torii, but the atmosphere is much calmer. ⛩️ As an alternative to Hie Shrine in Tokyo and Ukiha Inari in Fukuoka Prefecture, the torii literally descend from the hill overlooking the valley! 🎨 Instead of the Benesse Museum on Naoshima, there's the Teshima Art Museum on the neighboring island. Honestly, that's the one that impressed me the most. 🦍 Instead of Godzilla in Shinjuku, there's the huge King Kong in Shimokitazawa. Unexpected, but very photogenic. 🦌 Instead of Nara's deer, there are Miyajima's deer. They're much calmer, and the surrounding area boasts one of Japan's most beautiful views. 🗿 Instead of Kamakura's Buddha, there's the 120-meter Ushiku Daibutsu, just two hours from Tokyo. 🏯 Instead of Osaka Castle, there's Himeji Castle. I was tired from cycling around Teshima, so I took a break. I had a cafe at the Seaside Restaurant. This restaurant is located along the coast and has a great view. The pizza is apparently delicious, so they brought it to me fresh from the handmade oven. Yokoo Tadanori also has art works on display in Teshima. I had some time before the return boat from Ieura Port, so I went in. In the previous Yokoo World, he incorporated primary colors into the old houses as much as he could. The most famous tourist spot in Teshima. Teshima Art Museum requires a reservation with a specified time, so please be careful when visiting. Photography is prohibited inside the museum, so I only have photos of the surrounding area, but the entire space is dominated by the masterpieces of modern artists who make use of architecture and water. I was confused at first, but I gradually became at ease and was moved. After that, I saw the famous road that leads to the sea, and ate at a restaurant. I took a ferry to Teshima in Kagawa Prefecture. It took about 40 minutes from Takamatsu Port to reach Ieura Port. It can also be accessed from the opposite shore, Okayama Prefecture. A local told me about it in the morning, so I rented a bicycle and went to Teshima Espoir Park for a morning cafe. It just opened last year. Kagawa Shodoshima International Hotel is located just over the Angel Road. If you plan to go to Shodoshima, it is definitely recommended to stay on the island for a night, soak in the hot springs and look at the sea. You don’t have to catch the boat or the car, and spend a leisurely and comfortable time. 👍🏻 The hotel is surrounded by the sea on three sides, every room has a sea view, and the open-air hot spring naturally faces the sea. You can watch the sunset at night and the sunrise in the morning. The scenery is unbeatable! 🌅It feels great to soak in the hot springs in the gentle sound of the waves and feel the sea breeze at night. 🌌The room is ordinary, but large in size. The hotel dining was excellent! You can take a ferry to access to this one of the most beautiful islands around Kagawa. It is pretty small to explore but feels so good for just relaxing and spending time with great nature. About transportation, unfortunately there are not so many buses however, you can rent a car or even bikes that is enough for exploring all around the island.
