This journey was likely to be the last city developed in Northern Europe. At that time, I didn't want to travel too far, so I decided to try my luck in this city. Trondheim is not a mainstream tourist city, so the pace is very leisurely, perfect for a casual stroll. Afterward, you can return to the hotel to cook a meal or have a cup of coffee. The hotel is located on a hilltop (climbing up was exhausting), but the view is fantastic, and if you're lucky, you might even see the Norwegian Air Force's F35 fighter jets flying by. Trondheim also has some unique architecture, with notable landmarks including the Nidaros Cathedral, the Old Town Bridge, and the Bakklandet Wharf. The Nidaros Cathedral is the largest and most important Gothic cathedral in Northern Europe, while the Old Town Bridge is a popular spot for taking photos. Bakklandet Wharf is known for its old wooden buildings and traditional way of life. I stayed here for four nights, and for three of those nights, I was able to see the Northern Lights. I must say, I was very lucky! However, the Northern Lights were only faint green in the distance for the first two nights, not very intense. On the last day, I received an alert that the Northern Lights would be very strong, so I specifically went to the seaside to watch them (details are in another article).

The warmth of the food was a perfect contrast to the chilly weather outside. For a dose of adventure, I ventured into the surrounding countryside for some winter activities. Dog sledding through snow-covered forests was a dream come true, and the huskies were incredibly friendly. I also tried my hand at cross-country skiing, a favorite pastime for the locals. As my trip came to an end, I couldn't help but feel a sense of gratitude for the unforgettable experiences I had in Trondheim. Amidst the silence and the cold, we all stood fixated on the pitch-black canvas of the sky, which was studded with millions of stars. Time dragged on, and we were close to giving up, but then... my friend cried out, his voice trembling, "What is that!" I turned towards where he was pointing, and in that instant, the whole world stopped. A faint white streak, like a wisp of smoke, appeared in the sky before it quickly intensified, transforming into a rich, emerald green. It wasn't just a static glow—it was moving! The Northern Lights surged upwards and spread out into a massive arch. Then, it began to "dance" gracefully, like a gigantic silk curtain being effortlessly flicked and waved across the celestial stage. It shifted shapes rapidly, sometimes resembling waves, sometimes a veil of light#norway cascading so close it felt as if we could reach out and touch it. It was a wonder beyond description. I felt completely mesmerized. No one paid attention to the cold or even thought about taking pictures at first. This time I came to Trondheim, I was already full of expectations for this Nordic ancient city, but choosing the Radisson Blu Hotel in Trondheim Royal Gardens added to the whole trip. The biggest selling point of this hotel is its location in the city center, close to the river and convenient transportation, which fully meets my requirements for "viewing and convenience". Moreover, the interior design of the hotel itself is super beautiful, Nordic simplicity and a lot of green plant accents, great for photography, many guests will deliberately take a panoramic view of the hotel from the bridge outside, super feel! Speaking of location, the hotel is Kjøpmannsgata 73. One step out of the hotel you can see the river. The night view is excellent at night. It is really worth a slow walk to feel the city atmosphere. It’s a ten-minute drive from the airport or the central train station, and there’s no pressure to pick up your luggage. If you’re self-driving, underground parking is definitely a boon without bothering with parking issues. In terms of hotel service, the staff I met during my stay were very friendly and down-to-earth, with any queries immediately helpful, greeting very courteous. The front desk staff will also take the initiative to care about your schedule, which feels very humane.
