Crane Castle ❄️ Tsuruga Castle
#TravelChat
Today, we're inviting you to visit Tsuruga Castle (Crane Castle) in Aizuwakamatsu City, Fukushima Prefecture.
When it comes to the charms of Japan in winter, the sight of a snow-covered ancient Japanese castle is definitely on your list. 🏯✨
And one of the most stunning castles that will have you snapping photos is Tsuruga Castle, also known as the Crane Castle. The blanket of snow makes for a truly romantic atmosphere, like a scene from a period drama.
The castle itself has been renovated, but it still retains its rich historical atmosphere. Inside, you can explore the history of samurai and ancient warfare, and there's even an observation deck on the top floor, offering a view of the entire city of Aizu covered in pure white snow. It's a beautiful and peaceful sight.
⏰ Opening Hours: 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM
(There is an admission fee to enter the castle.)
🚌 Getting there is easy. From Aizu-Wakamatsu Station, take the "Haikara-san" or "Akabe" bus and get off at the Tsurugajo Kita-guchi stop. It's only about a 20-minute ride to the castle.

The more famous beaches in Japan, mostly in Okinawa...
The water island located in Fukui Prefecture is a secret island and beach😍😍
▶️ About 500 meters long, slender uninhabited island
▶️ "Hokuriku's Hawaii", the blue sea and white sandy beaches ❤️❤️
This secret place is only open for about a few months a year... the sea water is clear to see the bottom, and there is less pollution in the upper ocean. So many people bring diving goggles to see marine life🐟😍
⏺️Access: From JR "Tunka" Station, take the COMMUNITY BUS "Tomiya Line" for about 32 minutes. Get off at "Sebina (Sekohama)" Station and walk for 3 minutes to the "Sebina (Sekohama)" pier and transfer to the ferry for about 10 minutes

Wandering around Fukui Prefecture. Around Kanagasaki Green Space in Tsuruga.
I got on a train from Kyoto, passed Lake Biwa, and got off halfway.
I strolled around Tsuruga, a town I visited for the first time.
I walked along the well-maintained streets from the station to Tsuruga Port.
This is a photo of the area around Kanagasaki Green Space.
There are several historical and museums in the area, and Kanagasaki Green Space is a good place to take a break.
I got a pamphlet from a nearby tourist facility.
There's a line in a song that goes, "I want to walk through an unknown town. I want to go somewhere far away."
By stopping off in a town you don't have a chance to visit, you can encounter unknown scenery.
You can also find places you haven't seen on social media.
I felt that this is the real joy of traveling, as I got off the train halfway.

[Fukui] Tsuruga Station: Orpark and Ekiben Shiosou
I got off at Tsuruga Station on the JR Hokuriku Main Line. My destination was Shiosou's original tai sushi, which has been making ekiben since the Meiji era. Looking back at history, it seems that they have been in business here for generations since the early Edo period. Their pressed sushi made with lotus roe caught in the nearby seas is elegant, easy to eat, and filling, making it a great meal for your train trip or as a souvenir.
I actually wanted to buy some sasa sushi, but it required a reservation in advance. Unfortunately, I didn't do enough research this time. .
Thunderbird and Shirasagi express trains stop at Tsuruga Station. On this day, the connecting train was significantly delayed, so I was stuck. However, the multi-purpose facility (?) directly connected to the station, Olpark, has a variety of shops and facilities, including a waiting room, restrooms, a convenience store, and a standing soba restaurant, in addition to Shiosou, so the wait time was not a problem even in the middle of winter. When transferring between trains in rural areas, it is reassuring to use a terminal station in case something happens.
Also, the Hokuriku Shinkansen will be extended to Tsuruga in 2024.

[Tsuruga → Tomakomai East] Shin Nihonkai Ferry
We chose to take the ferry as a means of transportation from Fukui to Hokkaido 🚢
Because it was the off-season, there were very few people on the ferry and we felt like we were always being treated like VIPs 🥰
We were able to eat breakfast, lunch and dinner in the restaurant, and the quality was so high that it was hard to believe it was on board, so if you do board, please try the food in the restaurant 🍛

Shin Nihonkai Ferry Suisen
I boarded the Shin Nihonkai Ferry Suinsen [Tomakomai East Port → Tsuruga Port].
There are so many ship options for getting from Honshu to Hokkaido. 🛳
Taiheiyo Ferry connects Nagoya (Sendai) to Tomakomai, Mitsui O.S.K. Lines Ferry connects Oarai to Tomakomai,
and now, the Shin Nihonkai Ferry that I'll be introducing today!
Shin Nihonkai Ferry is the ferry with the most departure and arrival points, departing from Tsuruga Port in Fukui Prefecture, Maizuru Port in Kyoto Prefecture, and Niigata Port in Niigata Prefecture to Tomakomai.
I was surprised by the luxurious cabins and facilities, which I didn't expect to find on board!
The meals were full of local delicacies, which was interesting. ♪
In winter, rough seas can make it less comfortable, but during warmer months,
a ferry is a relaxing way to travel to Hokkaido!

A culinary journey through railway bento boxes at Tsuruga Station 🍱🚉
#NovemberDestinations2025
Stepping into Tsuruga Station, a train station brimming with local character, filled me with anticipation for sampling the local delicacies. Railway bento boxes are an indispensable part of any trip, and the Wakasa beef-themed bento boxes here thrilled me. Entering the bento shop, the dazzling array of choices was overwhelming, and the aroma of fresh ingredients was irresistible 🍽️✨.
I chose a bento featuring Wakasa beef, and the moment I opened the box, the tender meat and abundant toppings made my mouth water. Paired with green vegetables and rice, the colors made the bento look incredibly appealing. Tasting the smooth and tender Wakasa beef, every bite was a delightful surprise; the savory meat and subtle oiliness intertwined to create a perfect flavor, making me realize the charm of local specialties! 🥩🌿
During this enjoyable meal, I deeply understood the responsibility of eating on public transport. Noticing the passengers around me, I quietly enjoyed my bento box, recognizing that keeping the carriage clean is a sign of respect for others. While enjoying the delicious food, I kept the environment tidy and disposed of my trash properly – this thoughtfulness made my trip even more enjoyable 😊🗑️.
After finishing my bento, the scenery outside the window changed with the train's movement, enhancing my enjoyment of the journey. The railway bento at Tsuruga Station, brimming with the flavors of local specialties, not only made my short wait time pleasant but also added a lot of color to the rest of my journey.
This meal at Tsuruga Station undoubtedly became an unforgettable moment in my trip. I look forward to returning to this small station in the future to continue exploring more delicious food and beautiful scenery! 🌟🚆

Transportation: Tsuruga Station is a major station on the Hokuriku Shinkansen, providing convenient access to various destinations.

The journey to Toyama on the Hokuriku Shinkansen from Atsushi gave me a sense of the unique charm of Japanese trains. The moment I got in the car, the warm cabin exuded a comfortable atmosphere, and the transparent windows allowed me to enjoy the beautiful scenery along the way🌄.
As the train slowly started, the scenery outside the window was like a flowing painting, with fields, mountains and small villages displayed one by one. This land of Hokuriku is particularly charming with the gifts of nature, especially in the morning sunshine. The light falling on the rice fields is like golden waves, which makes me feel a sense of joy😊✨.
The cabin was quiet and comfortable, the spacious seats allowed people to relax, and occasionally a few passengers opened their snacks, the aroma of crispy bento wafting in the air, so that I couldn't help but whet my appetite. Listening to the sound of the train gliding, it is like enjoying a high-end symphony. The small stations that sometimes pass by are like small dots in the painting, adding a bit of life to this journey🎶🍱.
As we were about to arrive at Toyama, the scenery in front of us gradually became spectacular. The snow-capped peaks shine dazzlingly under the sunlight, making people marvel at the miraculous craftsmanship of nature. This short journey not only brought physical and mental relaxation, but also a cleansing of the mind, allowing me to feel a close connection with nature🌨️😍.
Sitting on the Hokuriku Shinkansen, time seemed to slow down, allowing me to fully appreciate the fun and beauty of the journey. I am looking forward to starting a new expedition in Toyama, but at this moment I just want to cherish this comfort and comfort, and quietly enjoy this rare quiet journey🛤️💖 while the train is steadily heading to its destination.
Opening hours: Shinkansen usually provides year-round service (based on schedule)
Access: From Dunga, you can take the Hokuriku Shinkansen directly to Toyama
Reminder: Check train times ahead of time to keep your personal belongings safe and enjoy every moment of your journey. A comfortable Hokuriku Shinkansen trip🚄✨

🏯🌸 Resilience and Beauty at Tsuruga Castle ⚔️✨
#hellohalloween
Standing proudly in Aizuwakamatsu, Tsuruga Castle — also known as Aizu-Wakamatsu Castle — is a symbol of strength, honor, and rebirth. Originally built in the late 14th century, the castle became a key stronghold during the Boshin War (1868–1869), when the Aizu samurai fought valiantly during Japan’s Meiji Restoration. Though the original structure was destroyed, it was lovingly reconstructed in 1965, restoring its magnificent form and spirit.
The castle’s elegant five-story keep rises above lush gardens and a wide moat, offering panoramic views of Aizuwakamatsu and the surrounding mountains. Inside, the museum tells the dramatic story of the Aizu clan through armor, weapons, and historical exhibits that bring samurai life vividly to life. The observation deck at the top provides one of the best vistas in the region — especially beautiful during cherry blossom season, when the grounds transform into a sea of pink.
By day, Tsuruga Castle is graceful and grand; by night, it glows softly under lantern light, embodying both history and hope. Whether you come to admire its architecture, learn its stories, or simply enjoy the peaceful gardens, this iconic landmark captures the enduring soul of samurai Japan — resilient, elegant, and unforgettable.
