Spend one day in Turin, the first capital of Italy, rich in culture, history and beauty, just a short train or bus ride away from Milan! After reaching Porta nuova station, walk along Via Roma, the main shopping street in town and enjoy the buildings, squares and fountains along it before starting your day visit in Piazza Castello, the heart of the city, its main square, where the royal palace is located, to see the stunning baroque architecture. Walk to the nearby Palatine Gate to view almost perfectly preserved Roman ruins. Head inside the Royal Palace of Turin and/or step into the adjacent Turin Cathedral to view the home of the Holy Shroud (the relic itself is not on display), note that the royal palace gardens are free to access!! Stop for a morning coffee at a historic spot like Caffè al Bicerin to try layers of espresso, chocolate, and milk, or Baratti e Milano, for the most luxurious coffee experience in town! The alps offer uncountable breathtaking spots to visit, this one is in the Italian alps, more precisely in Piedmont, in the north west of the country. Lago di Ceresole (Ceresole Lake) is a scenic artificial alpine reservoir at 1,582 meters above sea level in the Orco Valley, Piedmont, Italy. It's set within the Gran Paradiso National Park, and the best part is that it features a flat 7.5 to 9 km walking trail around the water, accessible even to people that are not confident when it comes to hiking, not only the trail is flat but there are also picnic tables all along the loop to sit and take a break if needed! The water has an incredible colour and stunning mountain backdrops, and nearby access to the Nivolet Pass (buses to reach the pass need to be reserved at least a day in advance before 6pm). Located at Piazza Cesare Augusto, it served as the northern entrance to the ancient Roman city of Julia Augusta Taurinorum (modern Torino). It is one of the world's best-preserved Roman gateways!! The gate features a central two-story archway, four entryways (originally for carriages and pedestrians), and two 30m tall corner towers. The left tower was rebuilt in the 15th century. The bronze statues of Julius Caesar and Augustus situated near the gate are not ancient, they were added in the 1930s. The gate is the focal point of a large archaeological park that includes the ruins of an ancient Roman theater.
