As we got the ferry back early from Tokashiki Island, it gave us a greater chance to explore Naha, Okinawa’s capital. The real gem was Hacksaw Ridge. Being interested in both history, especially that of the Second World War, and cinema, we all had a great appreciation for this site. A famous landmark due to the heroics of Desmond Doss, a US medic and conscientious objector who saved 75 lives in one night at this hellish battleground without ever holding a weapon. Portrayed by Andrew Garfield in Mel Gibson’s stunning epic, we were all humble by the thought of his incredible actions at this site which saved so many lives all those years ago

🏬Name: Portkawa Restaurant rat&sheep The recommended dish is the Pinza Burger! We had to wait for 30 minutes to get in during lunchtime because it was so crowded. I ordered the famous hamburger, and my friend ordered the omelet rice. The prices are unbelievably reasonable, and the taste is incredibly delicious. I was surprised by how good it was and wondered how much it would cost if it were sold in Tokyo. How about enjoying a very delicious lunch or dinner here? 🏬Name: Whimsical Japanese Restaurant arinkaya The restaurant's name evokes a mysterious atmosphere. The seasonal menu changes the ingredients of the noodles and inari sushi. Although it is said to be whimsical, the inari sushi menu is fixed by regulation. I talked too much, so I added takeout and went home. The noodles looked like handmade soba and were very delicious. Japanese Artistic Meets American Retro! The Foreigners' Residential Area in Okinawa's Minatogawa.

Originally, the Minatogawa Foreigners' Residential District was a collection of barracks where American soldiers and their families lived after World War II. Later, some of these barracks were transformed into the characteristic artistic shops and exquisite coffee shops we see today. Most of the houses are painted in shades of pink, complemented by the greenery surrounding them, creating an atmosphere of lazy relaxation that also makes for great photo opportunities. Let me introduce two of my favorite little shops in the area! First is 'Houkiboshi Minatogawa Hon Store', which specializes in brown sugar crème brûlée. The outside is crispy while the inside is soft, with a rich and delicious flavor, and there are various flavors to choose from that will make you want to keep eating. Another shop, 'The Flavor Design', allows you to customize your own perfume. With its laboratory-like design, you can mix and match scents to your heart's content, and even choose the color of the perfume and the bottle, creating your own unique fragrance! It's just too cute. The area isn't large, but each shop is adorable, making it perfect for a leisurely stroll and an afternoon tea to spend a relaxed afternoon!

2 Cultural Buildings

#okinawatrip There are two cultural buildings often used for at exhibits and as concert venue. The architecture is very hypnotic and you can climb the tower on the main building to see a fantastic view of the city skyline. There's also a park area ideal for picnics and for children to play. The on site café has lunch and desserts, but it's not that good. It's a good place for a walk or for cultural activities.

Historical Artwork

#okinawatrip GREAT little gem for historial art! 200¥ for entry fee! There is an English audio to follow through the art pieces. The staff were very friendly and helped guide to begin correctly when we got mixed up! Note, parking in the front (on main road) is closer to the front door. The Google GPS takes you to the back of the building. I loved seeing historical artwork and there is a voice guided tour available from the front desk that explains all the permanent exhibits there.

Urasoe Athletic Park

#thingstodo Great and nice place to do exercise, sport activity and spend family time. They had set-up the body temperature checkup machine and hand sanitizer at entrance and exit area, if guest want to use the indoor stadium or pool area.Has track to run on, fitness center, pool (not a large pool, but has hot tubs and steam room) and a gym available there. Has tennis and basketball courts also. Walking area around whole park. If you have a tattoo, it must be covered to use any indoor facility. Recommended place for mind refreshing, warm up and keep healthy.

West Uchima Park

#thingstodo Large parking area and restrooms are well maintained. We recently went during Golden Week so we could see the beautiful Koinobori flags and were so impressed. If you are able make sure to go during that time to see!There is a parking lot for about 25 cars on the east side of the park diagonally across from the fire station. The park is divided into upper steps and lower steps, and there is a height difference of about 60 steps on the stairs. There is one toilet at the back of the parking lot and one in the center of the upper row. The bottom row is also able to go down to the Aja River, and the square also plays elderly park golf. It's a larger park than I thought. There are a few children's playground equipment in the upper and lower rows.

Camp Kinser Park

#thingstodo A fun park near Camp Kinser for children of all ages. There's a smaller playground with a sand pit and slides for toddlers; a playground made out of wood for children a little older; and a grass and a dirt area for playing some kickball. The teens can take a rest under the pavilions or even go down near the river. Two abandoned, but gated off tombs within the park.

Omiya Park

#2024wish This is a huge park in Omiya that's famous for its temple and cherry blossom trees during spring season. Free to come, no charge to enter the old small museum. Lots of family with kids come here to play so it gets busy and populated. Lots of old people with their dogs too. A place to unwind or if you don't have money come to this park and bring your date. Lots of couple do that here. I want to walk in this park again and just relax.

My Aaahhhhhh moment

Just back from Okinawa & the sunsets there are super awesome! Kinda like the Hand of God is literally coming down. Wonderful aahhhhh moments.

Another kind of Okinawa Kunchuan outsider residential area outside Gangcheon, blue sky and blue sea was built in the 50s and 70s of the last century.
