Victoria travel guide and discussion

If you had to pick one place in Melbourne that turns adults back into kids, it’s undeniably Luna Park. Nestled beside St Kilda Beach, this retro amusement park has been bringing joy to visitors for over a century since its opening in 1912. It may not be huge—lacking the sheer scale of Universal Studios or the grand magic of Disney—but it holds a unique charm that inevitably puts a smile on your face the moment you step inside. The giant grinning clown at the entrance is Melbourne's most iconic "welcome ceremony" 🩵 🚃 Transport: A 30-minute direct tram ride from the CBD to the beach Luna Park is located at 18 Lower Esplanade, St Kilda VIC 3182. Starting from the Melbourne CBD, the most convenient way to get there is by taking tram route 96 or 16 and hopping off at "Stop No. 138 - Luna Park / The Esplanade." The tram stop is situated right at the park's entrance. The ride takes about 30 minutes, offering a scenic transition from the bustling cityscape to the serene coastline. While Melbourne has a Free Tram Zone in the city center, St Kilda falls outside this area, so remember to tap your Myki card for the fare. If you’re driving, paid parking lots are available near the park, right next to St Kilda Beach. 🕰️ Opening Hours: Open on weekends, school holidays, and public holidays Luna Park isn't open every day. Its operating schedule is primarily focused on: · Weekends, Victorian school holidays, and public holidays · Gates open at 11:00 AM · Closing times vary by season—summer hours may extend to 10:00 PM, while winter brings earlier closures. To avoid disappointment, it’s highly recommended to check the official website or do a quick Google search for the specific operating hours on the day of your visit. 🎟️ Admission Fees: A variety of ticket options to suit your needs Luna Park offers several ticketing choices: · General Admission (includes 1 free ride or game): $30 AUD · Unlimited Ride Ticket (Adults 13+): $55 AUD · Unlimited Ride Ticket (Children 4-12): $45 AUD · Toddlers (0-3 years): Free · Family Pass (4 people): $170 AUD Tickets can be purchased at the on-site box office or online in advance. If you plan on hitting up multiple rides, the unlimited pass is definitely the best value. 🎢 Rides: The century-old wooden roller coaster is the star attraction Luna Park might be modest in size, but it packs an incredible atmosphere. Its most iconic ride is the "Great Scenic Railway," a wooden roller coaster built in 1912. As one of the oldest continually operating wooden coasters in the world, this 967-meter track runs along the park's perimeter, treating riders to breathtaking views of Port Phillip Bay. Beyond the coaster, the park features a classic carousel, the Enterprise, a haunted house, bumper cars, and a pirate ship—perfect for thrill-seekers of all ages. The park also provides free Wi-Fi, restrooms, food stalls, and a café. 📸 The Entrance: The giant smiling clown, Melbourne's classic photo spot Even if you don’t plan on riding anything, making a trip just to snap a photo at Luna Park’s entrance is absolutely worth it. Visitors enter through the mouth of a massive, grinning clown face—the park’s ultimate landmark. This iconic spot is incredibly photogenic. Many tourists come simply to capture the classic "walking into the clown's mouth" shot. With St Kilda Beach right next door, a photo featuring the smiling gate against a backdrop of blue skies or a vibrant sunset is practically postcard-perfect. 🐧 St Kilda Pier: Wild Little Penguins coming home after sunset After exploring Luna Park or getting your photos at the entrance, don’t rush off just yet—St Kilda Pier is right nearby, hiding a fantastic, free surprise: wild Little Penguins. Every year from March to November, shortly after sunset, these tiny penguins (only about 30 cm tall) swim in from the ocean and waddle up the rocky crevices of the breakwater to return to their nests. The prime viewing window is within 30 minutes after sunset. It’s best to arrive at the pier 20 minutes early, stroll to the end of the breakwater path, and wait by the boardwalk fencing. Watching these chubby little birds clumsily climb ashore and waddle back to the rocks is a truly heartwarming sight that will make your whole day. Tips for Penguin Viewing: · No flash photography—it hurts the penguins' eyes. · Do not climb over the fences or attempt to touch the penguins. · The ocean breeze can be chilly, so bring a jacket. · Sunset times shift with the seasons: around 8:30 PM in summer and 5:30 PM in winter. 💡 Quick Tips 1. If you're going for the rides, carve out a full day: enjoy the park from noon to late afternoon, then head to the pier for the penguins. It makes for a packed and perfect itinerary. 2. If you're just there for photos, half a day is plenty: grab your shots, stroll along St Kilda Beach, grab a coffee, and catch the sunset and penguins at the pier. 3. St Kilda Beach is right there: sand, sea breeze, sunsets, and penguins—all your coastal dreams fulfilled in one spot. 4. Don't forget sunscreen: the Australian sun is harsh, and there's little shade by the beach. Sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses are absolute must-haves. 5. Wear comfortable walking shoes: it’s about a 10-minute walk from Luna Park to St Kilda Pier, and you'll be on your feet a lot. 6. Arrive around 3:00 PM: this gives you time to take photos or enjoy the rides, take a leisurely beach walk, and perfectly time your arrival at the pier for sunset and penguins. 7. Viewing the penguins is 100% free: no tickets needed, just head to the pier and wait. 📌 Conclusion Luna Park and St Kilda Pier form Melbourne's ultimate "day and night" duo. By day, walk through the clown’s smile and scream on a century-old wooden roller coaster with ocean views. At dusk, wander along St Kilda Beach and watch the sun dip into Port Phillip Bay. Come nightfall, stand by the boardwalk at the pier and watch a colony of 30-cm-tall penguins waddle ashore and tuck themselves into the rocky crevices for the night. From sheer joy to peaceful serenity, from thrills to heartwarming moments—this is perhaps the gentlest gift Melbourne offers its travelers. "Luna Park: Step into childhood through a clown’s smile, and wait for a sunset in the St Kilda sea breeze." 🩵🎡🐧

Getting to the Colac region and local transportation arrangements are as follows: Melbourne to Colac: Take the V/Line train heading to Warrnambool from Melbourne's Southern Cross Station, and get off directly at Colac Station. The one-way trip takes about 2 hours. Local limitations: Mini-buses in Colac town (such as Routes 1 and 2) only operate in residential areas and do not run to private dairy farms in the outskirts. If you must visit a specific farm in the area, it is recommended to alight at Colac Station and book a local taxi (e.g., Colac Taxis) in advance for round-trip travel. Colac is the renowned heartland of the dairy industry in Victoria, Australia, surrounded by expansive dairy farms and volcanic lake landscapes. Whether you are planning a Great Ocean Road road trip or want to take your kids to experience authentic Aussie country life, the following visitor guide can help you easily plan a perfect farm and culinary journey. It is important to note that local farms in Colac are mostly large-scale, intensive commercial operations primarily focused on dairy production and distribution. Therefore, most pure working farms are not open to the general public for independent sightseeing. Visitors typically experience the local dairy charm in-depth through "paddock-to-plate" tourist farms, farmers' markets, or connecting road trip routes. 🥛 Core Recommendation: The Most Popular Interactive Tourist Farm Nearby If you want to feed calves yourself, watch a milking show, and taste premium Jersey cow dairy products, here is one of the most representative tourist farm options in Victoria: Caldermeade Farm & Cafe Highlights: This is a highly classic, modern tourist farm in the region. You can enter the Animal Nursery for free to get up close to Highland cows, alpacas, and lambs, pay to join a Tractor Trailer Tour deep into the pastures, and watch the modern automated milking process for free daily at 2:30 PM. Food Recommendations: The farm features its own workshop, crafting top-tier cheese, yogurt, and Gelato on-site from fresh milk. The hearty country breakfasts at its attached cafe are also incredibly popular. Official Info: For detailed event schedules and dining information, please visit the official Caldermeade Farm website. 🚗 Dairy and Culinary Road Trip Route: Otway Harvest Trail Colac is the gateway to the Otway region, and the local dairy essence is linked together along the Otway Harvest Trail tourist route. Artisan Cheese Tasting: Along this route, you can visit artisan farm shops hidden among rolling green hills, buying handcrafted aged cheddar cheese, fresh butter, and local honey directly from the farmers. Roaming Surrounding Towns: Along the way, you will pass through historic foodie towns like Birregurra or Forrest, where you can order a Flat White made with rich local milk at a charming local cafe. 🗺️ Colac Town Day Trip Extended Attractions When visiting Colac, besides experiencing the dairy vibe, it is highly recommended to stop by the following natural wonders to enrich your itinerary: Colac Botanic Gardens: Adjacent to Victoria's largest natural freshwater lake, Lake Colac, it is perfect for picnicking and admiring black swans and pelicans. Red Rock Volcanic Lookout: Located north of Colac, it offers a magnificent panoramic view of over 30 volcanic crater lakes, making it a must-visit for photography enthusiasts. Tourist Farm Experience Green Colac Surrounding Attractions 💡 Visitor Tips and Notes Season Choice: Spring and autumn are the most comfortable seasons for a road trip to Colac. During these times, the pasture grass is emerald green, and the weather is mild and not excessively hot. Clothing Suggestions: Since tourist farms mostly consist of outdoor grassy and dirt paths, it is recommended to wear waterproof, easy-to-clean casual shoes or sneakers, and pack a windproof and waterproof jacket. Booking and Itinerary Confirmation: If you plan to join specific farm tractor tours or holiday-specific DIY activities (like hand-shaken butter DIY), it is highly recommended to book spots online in advance through travel platforms to avoid missing out.

I drove the Great Ocean Road from Melbourne, hiring a car for A$65/day plus A$35 insurance. Fuel for the 240km round trip to the Twelve Apostles cost about A$40. I arrived at the Twelve Apostles car park (A$10 national park pass, credit card accepted) at 4 pm to catch the late afternoon light. The viewing platforms are well-maintained, offering unobstructed views of the limestone stacks. However, the site is extremely busy with tour buses. I then drove 5 minutes east to Loch Ard Gorge, named after the clipper ship that wrecked here in 1878. The gorge features a sheltered beach accessible via a steep staircase (80 steps). I walked the "Shipwreck Walk" to the Razorback formation and the "Tom and Eva" lookout. The history is haunting—the information boards detail the tragic survival story. I stayed until sunset, which was magical and less crowded. Mistake: I attempted the drive in one very long day (12 hours total). It’s doable but exhausting. Stay overnight in Apollo Bay or Port Campbell. Also, I didn't account for the one-way sections near Princetown—check the VicRoads website for closures. Worth it? Yes, but only if you drive yourself. The A$195 bus tours from Melbourne are rushed and restrictive. The freedom to stop at Gibson Steps or London Arch at your own pace is invaluable. Question: Does the A$40 fuel cost and driving stress outweigh the A$195 tour price, or is the independence worth every cent?

Melbourne St Kilda beach is a great spot to watch the sunset and wild penguins! The key is that the admission is free, you can get there by bus from the city, the transportation is convenient, and you don't have to travel. The beach is surrounded by the vast sea on one side and the high-rise buildings in the city center on the other, the buildings become mini at dusk, the city view with the sunset is really healing, especially recommended for travelers who like nature and city integration. 😛 Must-see routes and photo spots: Starting at St Kilda beach, it is recommended to visit at dusk before taking pictures of the sunset and city skyline on the beach and walking along the rocks near the metal railing to the penguin habitat. There is a free penguin viewing platform here. Opening hours change depending on the season. It is recommended to check the time when the penguins return to the nest in advance. Encountering penguins returning to their nests, their small steps are funny and cute, and they will hover near the rocks, which is worth experiencing in person. Living around the beach is convenient, with several snack shops, easy to buy ice cream or snacks, and you can bring your own picnic and sit on the beach for the sunset. 🏙️ If you still have time before heading to the beach, you can visit the nearby Luna Park in Melbourne. Moon Park is known for its classic clown entrance. If time permits, you can enter the park to participate in rides. 🐧Penguin Observation Tips: 1. Penguins are more afraid of sounds, do not call or harass them loudly. 2. Be sure not to take photos with flash to protect wildlife. 3. Penguins return to their nests at different times in summer and winter. Notes: 1. The free penguin observation area will be closed seasonally, so be sure to check the official schedule. 2. Melbourne’s weather is highly variable, so remember to bring an extra jacket, especially in autumn and winter when the temperatures are low at night. The whole trip is suitable for half-day trips, you can start by visiting Luna Park, watching the sunset at dusk, waiting for the penguins to return to their nests in the evening, easily experience the natural scenery and authentic play of the Melbourne suburbs! #St Corda Penguins #Melbourne Sunset #Beach Photo #LunaPark Clown Gate #Australia Travel

🦪 MELBOURNE, WHY CAN’T SYDNEY HAVE THIS?! 😭 @stopwhining_bar I found this cute little oyster bar in Melbourne’s Chinatown and I seriously can’t stop whining about it 😂 I Googled Stop Whining Seafood Wine Bar on Little Bourke Street because I wanted somewhere casual where I could just walk in, sit down and enjoy fresh seafood and oysters without the whole fancy restaurant experience. I tried their Shuckmaster’s Tasting Set with six different oysters from different regions 😍🦪 🌊 Ocean Breeze • Pacific, Streaky Bay SA 🦪 Mr Perfect Jr. • Pacific, Port Douglas SA 🦪 Nat Kelly • Pacific, Bruny Island TAS 🦪 Godmother • Pacific, St Helens TAS 🦪 Miss Helen • Pacific, Little Swanport TAS 🦪 Rockefeller • Rock oyster, Wonboyn NSW This is what I LOVE about Melbourne. You can wander through Chinatown or Queen Victoria Market and find little spots where you can stop, eat something fresh and just keep exploring. I really miss that proper market vibe in Sydney. The crowds, the fresh produce, the noise, people calling out and all the chaos 😂 It just has so much character and culture. And for my solo travellers, places like this are perfect. Sometimes sitting alone in a fancy restaurant can feel a little awkward 😂 but somewhere casual like this? Give me my oysters and I’m happy 🐷🦪 📍 Stop Whining Seafood Wine Bar, Little Bourke Street, Melbourne Chinatown @stopwhining_bar Oyster lovers, SAVE THIS for your next Melbourne trip! 🦪✈️ #MelbourneFood #MelbourneEats #MelbourneOysters

I'm the kind of person who likes to buy local brands when I visit, so I'd like to introduce some shops that are perfect for both myself and gifts. 1. [Aesop] This time, I went to Aesop North Melbourne💁 📍Address: 2 Errol St, North Melbourne, VIC 3051, Australia The interior was pink and incredibly cute!!! It had a somewhat antique feel, and there was even a large telescope, creating a truly wonderful atmosphere. The staff were also very kind, offering me a sample of their new perfume and even helping me find out about their airport store. I dropped in hoping to get some cheap duty-free items, but I found out that you need to spend over $300 to get a tax exemption at the stores downtown, so I decided to just buy something at the airport. By the way, I was worried the store would be open since I had my first flight early in the morning, but it was! However, there was no staff there, so I paid at the register of another duty-free store. 2. [T2 Tea] This brand caught my eye in the supermarket tea section because of its striking packaging. This Melbourne-based tea manufacturer has cute, colorful packaging and a wide selection of fragrant, delicious flavored teas! This store also has a wide selection of tea utensils, which was a lot of fun. It also makes a popular souvenir! 📍Location: Shop GD 050 Melbourne Central, 300 Lonsdale St, Melbourne VIC 3000 Australia #Melbourne #MelbourneTourism #AustraliaTrip #Aesop #aesop

I spent 3D2N driving from Melbourne to 📍Great Ocean Road, before returning to Melbourne. The coastal views are one of the best in the world. Cool weather in summer (December) at around 17 degrees celcius in the day and 14 degrees celcius at night, so bring along your jackets all year round 🧥. 📍Apollo Bay Be sure to spend the night at Apollo bay and visit other attractions around the area and try the fresh oysters 🦪 and fish and chips 🐟 along the coasts! The forests around the area are refreshing and beautiful as well, with little elevation changes. 📍12 Apostles Spend the 2nd day driving from Apollo Bay to visit the 12 Apostles, to visit magnificent headland and bays with prominent stacks, formed by corrosion. It is exactly as pictured in geography textbooks. You can try activities such as surfing 🌊🏄 if you have the time along the beautiful coastlines, and drive or climb to various viewpoints to oversee the picturesque mountains and sea. #australiatrip #seascapes #victoria #downunder #hiking #nature #beach #melbourne #greatoceanroad #familytravel #myitinerary #localfood #couplestrip

Australia's most beautiful coastal scenery! The first attraction on our way was the Aireys Inlet lighthouse. This was the first lighthouse on the Great Ocean Road, and there was a name called White Queen. amazing! 😘 After stopping at the arches of the Great Ocean Road to take pictures, it took about 2.5 hours to drive to the coastal town Apollo Bay, which took 2 hours to reach the independent reefs standing in the Pacific Ocean after millions of years of weathering and seawater erosion. The twelve disciples in the storm are shocking!💡 #happynewyear

Lucky enough to get this shot before the sky gone cloudy. Our trip down the Great Ocean Road was not smooth due to the unpleasant weather. However, we were still amazed by the beauty of mother nature. And not to forget to mention about the extremely strong wind that almost blew us off during our visit to Twelve Apostles.

Australia is disappearing in the wonders of the world, it is too late to go. Speaking of "Twelve Apostles" The first thing that comes to mind naturally is the "twelve disciples" recorded in the Bible. It is said that the number of "twelve" has a special meaning, as if the Old Testament had twelve Israel. There are twelve gates in the New Jerusalem, twelve angels on the door, twelve foundations on the wall, and so on, as if to prove that this is a different number from the others. In Melbourne, Australia, there is the existence of this twelve disciples. Melbourne's Twelve Apostles actually refers to the Twelve Apostles, which is located on the Great Ocean Road in Victoria Island, Australia, in the Port Campbell National Park. We started from Melbourne by car, and it took about 3 hours to walk along the Great Ocean Road. The Twelve Apostles are actually 12 sandstones on the Pacific Ocean, because after thousands of years of baptism of the waves and sea breeze, because the number and form are similar to the twelve disciples of Jesus, it is called the twelve disciple. Because of the erosion of day after day, the earliest "twelve disciples" are only seven and a half now. Some people say that this is a gift on the most beautiful road in the world. It is nature giving people If you don't look at it anymore, one day you will lose it. Just like no one knows, the day when the fire in Notre Dame in Paris will happen, the landscape here will suddenly collapse. So be sure to hurry up time~ It is said that the most recent collapse occurred in 2005 when a little boy and his parents witnessed the moment of the collapse, the last second of the rock still perseverance in Neri, It can be as short as 35 meters in the next second. Research scholars have said that the wonders here will all disappear one day. The moment you see is actually history. Finally, in addition to self-driving, you can also choose to take a helicopter, but there are many people, you must make an appointment in advance, and consult the corresponding price, about 20 minutes, a few hundred Australian dollars.

The Great Ocean Road, located in the west of Melbourne, was built by the Australian government for the soldiers who died in the First World War. Construction began in 1919 and was completed in 1932, with a total length of 276 kilometers. The White Queen Lighthouse is the most beautiful of the eight lighthouses on the Great Ocean Road. It is not only an important navigational guide in Victoria, but also one of the many navigation warning lights on the coastline of the Great Ocean Road. The Lorne Trestle Bridge extends to the center of the sea and the scenery is unique. How can you not mention the twelve disciples in the Great Ocean Road? This is the landmark and the most enduring scenery. Although the twelve rocks have only seven remaining baptisms after thousands of years of sea breeze and waves, they have been carved into a human face by nature, seemingly sad, just like gentle, skillful. The Loyard Valley is adjacent to the Twelve Apostles. It is a spectacular U-shaped canyon formed by towering cliffs with sandy beaches and azure waters. The reason why the London Broken Bridge is famous is that it was once connected to the mainland by a natural bridge. The bridge collapsed in January 1990, and two frightened tourists were trapped on the newest island in the world. They were broadcast live on the whole process of being rescued by helicopters, so they are widely known and come here. Grotto is a natural cave formed by the erosion of limestone by seawater for thousands of years. It is covered with vegetation and is a wonder. Driving on the Great Ocean Road, so many beautiful scenery can be said to be climax, surprisingly continuous, there is no second road in the world can be comparable.

Arrive in Melbourne, pick up the car at the airport and head straight to Geelong, which is the first stop on our Great Ocean Road. Geelong is the second largest city in Victoria after Melbourne. It is the entrance to the Great Ocean Road. There are beautiful beaches. The biggest feature is the lovely human-shaped bollard on the shore. Today's weather is superb, the blue sky and the blue sea are in a line. This is just the round-the-island cycling race. The roads along the coast are surrounded, and there are various entertainment activities on the side. A lot of prizes.

The sunset of the encounter is more touching than the deliberate one. The weather from the Great Ocean Road back to Melbourne is also very exaggerated. The rainstorm has been repeated for several times, but I did not expect to return to the city and happened to catch up with this. The beauty of the field is rich in color. The charm of travel is not here? More than enough surprises. I don't remember what the port is called, just next to our Sebel Docklands hotel.

The Twelve Apostles, Australia 🌊 – Towering rock formations and towering cliffs along the Great Ocean Road – a breathtaking sight worth stopping for! The most captivating aspect of the Twelve Apostles is the scale created by the interplay of the rock formations, the waves, and the coastline. The towering rock formations rise from the sea, waves crashing against the shore in layers, and distant cliffs stretching along the coast; just looking at the scene, you can feel the power of nature. 📷 Include the Coastline in Your Photos When taking photos, don't just zoom in on a single rock formation. Include the cliffs in the foreground and the distant coastline in the frame to showcase the depth of the scenery. You can also alternate between panoramic shots and shots of the waves' details to create different rhythms in your photos. 🌤️ Different Lights, Different Expressions On a sunny day, the contrast between the sea and the rock formations is striking; when there are more clouds, the scenery gains a sense of weight and depth. If you want to wait for ideal light, don't schedule your itinerary too tightly; allow time to observe the changes in the sea and sky. 🧥 Practical Tips Bring a windproof jacket when sightseeing on the coast, and be mindful of your belongings when taking photos. Please stay within the official trails and viewing platforms, and obey on-site closure signs; check the latest opening status before setting off to avoid arriving to find that some areas are inaccessible. 📍Location: Twelve Apostles, Great Ocean Road, Victoria, Australia #AustraliaTravel #GreatOceanRoad #TwelveApostles #CoastalScenery #NaturalWonder

A charming little island near Melbourne featuring the perfect blend of beaches, nature, and wildlife. I absolutely loved the vibe of Phillip Island on this trip. It’s the perfect place for a leisurely drive with stunning scenery all along the way—think pristine beaches, dramatic cliffs, rolling grasslands, and roads that give you that authentic Australian road trip feel. 🚗🌿 The highlights here are definitely the nature and wildlife, especially the tiny penguins returning to shore in the evening. 🐧 It’s such a heartwarming moment and an absolute must-do when visiting the island. Beyond the Penguin Parade, there are several breathtaking viewpoints overlooking the ocean. While it can be quite windy, the air is incredibly fresh, making it perfect for a slow-paced drive with plenty of stops. Personally, Phillip Island felt much more serene compared to the city. Getting to see the vast ocean, immersing myself in nature, and embracing a truly "Slow Life" pace was exactly what I needed. 🌊🤍 If you’re visiting Melbourne and have a full day to spare, I highly recommend a trip to Phillip Island. If you love the ocean, road trips, and nature, you’ll definitely fall in love with this place. Phillip Island, Victoria 🇦🇺 Small island, big memories. 🏝️✨
