📢 Stop crowding the trendy ancient towns! This "fairyland secret" named by National Geographic is actually free!
Tired of the same old commercialized ancient towns? Fed up with stinky tofu and Yiwu small commodities everywhere?
Take my advice and come to Fubao Ancient Town in Sichuan! There’s no noisy hawking here, only 600 years of peaceful time. Hidden in the deep mountain folds at the junction of Sichuan, Guizhou, and Chongqing provinces, it’s praised by National Geographic as the "essence of Chinese mountain architecture."
No entrance fee, no commercialization, just layers of stilted buildings, winding bluestone paths, and the most authentic everyday life. This is what an ancient town should really look like! 😭
📍 Fubao Ancient Town: A “three-dimensional scroll” forgotten by time
Founded at the end of the Yuan and beginning of the Ming dynasty, Fubao Ancient Town was once a bustling port on the ancient salt transport route due to its location at the intersection of three provinces. Now the prosperity has faded, leaving behind a "living ancient town."
The houses here "grow" on the mountain! Built along the slopes, layered and orderly, with wooden beam-frame structures and hanging gable roofs. Walking on the bluestone path, you look up to flying eaves and down to flowing streams, as if stepping into a Ming or Qing dynasty ink painting. 🏯
✨ 5 Must-Visit Highlights (suggest screenshot to save)
🏮 Huilong Street: A time tunnel through centuries
This is the best-preserved old street in the town, 450 meters long. The street winds up and down, lined with Ming and Qing dynasty buildings. No bar streets here, only old teahouses, blacksmith shops, and grandmas selling local specialties. Every step echoes history.
🏯 Three Palaces and Eight Temples: A treasure trove of ancient architecture
Though an ancient town, the standards are very high! Qingyuan Palace, Wanshou Palace, Tianhou Palace, and other "Three Palaces and Eight Temples" are cleverly arranged. Especially the carved beams, painted rafters, and ox-leg window patterns, so exquisite you’ll question reality. Every photo is a classic ancient style shot! 📸
🌉 Huilong Bridge: The best photo spot
This Qing dynasty stone arch bridge is the town’s beauty icon. Standing on the bridge, the background is rolling green mountains and layers of stilted buildings. In the early morning or evening, with mist swirling, it’s breathtakingly beautiful!
📸 Viewing Platform: A god’s eye view of the town
Don’t just walk the streets, be sure to go 20 meters to the right of the archway to the mountain trail. A 5-minute walk leads to the viewing platform. From here, you’ll understand why it’s called a "gem of mountain architecture." 🌄
🍵 Slow Life Experience: Tea and daydreaming
Find an old teahouse, spend a few yuan on a bowl of covered bowl tea, and listen to local elders chatting. Time here seems to flow twice as slow as outside—this is true "reverse tourism"!
🍜 Fubao on the Tip of Your Tongue: A foodie's must-see
All the food here is natural mountain produce, no pre-made dishes!
· Fubao dried tofu/tofu pudding: A must-eat! Made with high mountain spring water, tender and smooth, spicy and fragrant, just a few yuan a bowl, so delicious it brings tears.
· Yulan slices/bamboo shoots: Lots of bamboo here, the bamboo shoots are fresh and crisp, perfect as souvenirs.
· Ye’er Ba/Huang Ba: Glutinous rice lovers rejoice! Wrapped in banana leaves, fragrant and soft.
· Hejiang early tofu pudding: If you go to the county town, be sure to try the Beimenkou river tofu pudding, paired with stir-fried pig liver and blood vegetable—absolutely amazing!
