Walking down College Street to the house where she passed away felt deeply poignant. But nothing compared to standing inside Winchester Cathedral, facing her resting place. It’s a moment I’ll never forget—surrounded by soaring stone, I was struck by the quiet strength of her legacy. The medieval Bishops of Winchester were rich and powerful men, the relations and advisers of kings. Wolvesey, standing a stone's throw from Winchester Cathedral, was their main residence throughout the Middle Ages. The extensive remains date largely from the great 12th century palace of Bishop Henry of Blois, brother of King Stephen. Though ruinous, the buildings still evoke an impression of their former grandeur. Because Winchester is not well-known, many tourists visiting the UK only arrange trips to Windsor, Cambridge, Oxford, and Bath, leaving Winchester alone. The urban area is not big, so we walked the whole way, which was very pleasant and relaxing. The carts were unobstructed. There were only a small section of stone roads and narrow sidewalks south of the cathedral and near the ruins of the old city. The Farmer's Market in Winchester is the largest in the UK. Not just the stunning Cathedral but Castles, Jane Ayers house and the boarding schools architecture is wonderful. Be drawn back into the past as you visit the Mill. Walk down the river to see not only fish but some amazing gardens behind. There are pubs with great food and atmosphere. Winchester is definitely worth a visit.

We visited a pub in Winchester which had so many quirky things to see. From railway signal buttons, rifle butt's, different pipes hanging from the ceiling, stuffed animals to a man peering out if the loo.
