I finally made it to my long-awaited trip to Namibia 🌏✈️ The round-trip flight from Japan is long, so I took the opportunity to extend my trip to Zimbabwe & Zambia and also visited the Victoria Falls 🥰 I used Ethiopian Airlines for access from Japan ✈️ From Victoria Falls to Namibia, I boarded a code-share flight with Lufthansa and Discover Airline ✨ It was a whirlwind 5 nights and 7 days, but it was a fulfilling African journey 😆

At first hearing, one might mistake 'Namibia' for a 'unit of length', a minuscule measure in the microscopic world. In fact, it is the name of the newest country in Southwest Africa, derived from the 'Namib Desert'. This region is considered to be the oldest desert in the world, with a history of at least 80 million years. It receives less than 10 millimeters of rainfall annually, is almost completely barren, and most areas are uninhabited and inaccessible. 'Namib' in the local language means 'vast and arid plains'. The Namib Desert, like the deep sea, has always drawn people to explore it. The British writer Thomas Browne once said, 'There is an Africa within everyone, primitive and mysterious', and it is said that all humans originated from Africa. I have always longed to explore this primitiveness and mystery, eagerly awaiting the opening act of my first African adventure. After a bumpy five-hour bus ride from the capital, I finally arrived at the Namib Desert Lodge, only for the sky to darken and a torrential downpour to suddenly pour down. My first encounter with the desert was met with rain, and I didn't know whether to feel worried or happy. The weather in arid Africa is like 'a child's face', where the rare rain stops as suddenly as it starts. When the clouds part and the sun rises, the sky becomes as clear and bright as a polished mirror. After 5 PM, the registered tourists split into two off-road jeeps and headed to a private estate reserve for the magnificent 'Desert Sunset Safari' under the lingering light of the setting sun, amidst the grandeur and majesty, on the red sand dunes, inviting deeper exploration. This is the most spectacular, dramatic, and surreal place on the African continent, with its majestic atmosphere, stunning beauty, wild strength, clean purity, mysterious unpredictability, diverse variability, and remote wonder. Along the way, the host introduced the interesting and stubborn growth of desert life; a few oryxes with beautiful patterns seemed to await the arrival of distant guests with the demeanor of desert masters; from a high platform, one could look down upon the village below, where the beautiful play of light and shadow of African football and the red heart sculpture shone brightly at dusk. The wilderness, solitude, freedom, and howling wind, the Creator has piled up all the beauty of intense conflict here, creating the most spectacular drama. When the sky is filled with rosy clouds and the moon begins to rise, a champagne celebration is set up on the mountain top. The African continent is never short of romance, and I capture my own silhouette in the midst of this grand drama with my camera.

And I agree, it's a long drive just for a short daytime hike, so we camped overnight right on the roof of our jeep, because the most interesting things happen at sunset and beyond. The incredible colors of the bright orange sunset and the contrasting black figures and silhouettes are the hallmark of the African continent. Minutes before, the sun's rays work their magic on the trunks of the quiver trees, revealing their true natural gold. Golden bark. Lots of golden bark. It's a fantastic experience that you can touch not only with your eyes but also feel with the warmth of your hand. The Quiver Forest, or Quiver Tree Forest, is located in the inaccessible wilderness of the Karas region, a place where you can endlessly admire, photograph, and contemplate the immensity of life. Most visitors to this place are photographers looking to capture sunset, sunrise, or night shots against the backdrop of an otherworldly forest. The experience of peace and connection with untamed, wondrous nature is immediate, as soon as you take a 360-degree view of the landscape. You'll surely be greeted by a Rocky Hyrax from behind the rocky outcrops. Be careful, their skins almost blend in with the stones, but their curiosity will win out, and the encounter will take place regardless. Under a clear sky and the magic of light, capture a moment of true beauty and the power of life. Despite its name, the quiver tree isn't a tree at all. It's a species of aloe, capable of reaching heights of over 9 meters. The quiver tree forest, declared a national monument of Namibia in 1995, has been privately owned by Koeni and Ingrid Nolte since 1990. The couple owns a farm and guesthouse adjacent to the forest and allows tourists to explore the grounds, sometimes offering night tours. All the trees in the forest have grown and reproduced naturally. You'll see everything from young plants emerging from rock crevices to the oldest specimens, some 200-300 years old. Location 460-500 km south of Windhoek The nearest town is Keetmanshoop There's a sign for Quiver Tree Forest. There's a well-organized, wide, clean parking lot for RVs, a level spot to pitch a tent, a civilized shower and toilet, and a barbecue area. There's an entrance fee.
