When I reached the middle of the bridge, the wind came, and the bridge began to sway slightly. The valleys on both sides are bottomless, and the wind makes it hard to stand steady. 🌿 Fragment Six · The Morning Mist of Xiayanbei Early the next morning, I went to Xiayanbei Village. The morning mist flows through the valley, and the outlines of the Nineteen Peaks appear faintly in the fog. 📚 Fragment Seven · The Tang Poetry Road Inscription By the mountain path is a stone tablet with poems from Tang Dynasty poets, the characters worn and blurred by wind and rain. While The Chedi Ninghai is perched on a mountain, The Chedi Xinchang nestles in a valley—both share the Chedi brand but offer distinctly different vibes. All rooms are standalone villas. I stayed in the Qingya Residence, featuring floor-to-ceiling windows with panoramic views of the river and cliffs, creating a feeling of living between the mountains and water. Opened in 2021, The Chedi Xinchang is still fresh, with top-notch amenities: Guerlain toiletries, Hansgrohe fixtures, and a complimentary minibar. The Cloud Ladder is the real highlight: A fully transparent elevator ascends through a 206-meter-high canyon, piercing the sea of clouds to reach the mountaintop, where a teahouse and some dining options await. Other activities and experiences: · The infinity pool is perfect for photos and slightly more practical than the one at The Chedi Ninghai. · Hiker-friendly: The back gate leads directly to the Shijiufeng Trail, offering serene solo hikes in the early morning. · Missed the family workshops and equestrian activities, but they seem well-curated. Around the temple site, there are other attractions such as the Free Life Pond, the Thousand Buddha Temple, and the Baoruo Valley (Prajna Valley). The Free Life Pond next to the temple reflects the surrounding trees and hills. You can see it as you enter through the gate. Xinchang is south of Shaoxing. There are direct buses from Shaoxing for 33 RMB. They arrive in about 1.5 hours.
