Fuxi Mountain Canyon Waterfall Quest
Entering the Mountain: The Heartbeat Prelude on the Mountain Road
On the morning of the May Day holiday, our family drove towards Fuxi Mountain Grand Canyon. After getting off the highway, the car turned onto a winding mountain road. The mountain road was steeper than expected, and the car swayed with the ups and downs of the road like a roller coaster. I tightly held the handrail and saw a sign on the roadside that read "Floods are ruthless, please be careful," which made my heart tighten even more. Fortunately, after forty minutes, the entrance to Fuxi Mountain finally appeared before us. Looking at the towering peaks ahead, the fear just moments ago was instantly replaced by excitement. After buying tickets and entering the scenic area, standing on the stone steps and looking down, there was a continuously flowing mountain stream beneath my feet. The breeze carried the fresh scent of grass and trees. Taking a deep breath, even the air felt sweet and refreshing.
Searching for the Pool: The Emerald Surprise of Wolong Pool
Not far into the canyon, Wolong Pool came into view—a pool of emerald green water like a piece of jade. The surface was so calm it reflected the nearby red rock mountain. Legend has it that two dragons used to play here. We squatted by the pool, watching the sunlight shimmer on the water, creating tiny sparkling spots. Occasionally, a few small fish swam by, startling the surface into ripples. Walking along the mountain stream deeper into the canyon, we soon heard the roaring sound of water. Turning a bend, a waterfall over twenty meters high plunged down from a cliff, splashing water several meters high and crashing into the pool with a deafening roar. The red rock mountains on both sides of the waterfall were covered with green trees. Looking up, the blue sky floated with white clouds. Next to the wooden steps underfoot, the mountain stream rushed by. The magnificent scene made us stand still and watch for a long time.
Water Fun: Summer Revelry in the Mountain Stream
The further we went, the more people appeared in the canyon. By a section of gently flowing stream, many tourists stopped. Children held water guns, shooting at each other, with cool splashes on their faces. Some people used fishing nets to catch tadpoles. The noisy laughter mixed with the sound of the stream became the liveliest symphony in the canyon. I couldn’t help but take off my shoes and step into the water. The stream was so cold it made me pull back my foot. After a while of getting used to it, I joined in the fun. Dad built a small dam with stones, and my brother and I dug water channels with small shovels. We got soaked playing until Mom called us to move on, and we reluctantly put our shoes back on.
Unexpected Rain: A Surprise Episode in the Mountain Stream
As we walked, a few drops fell on my hair. I thought it was splashes from the stream and didn’t pay much attention. But within minutes, it started raining. The weather forecast clearly said it would be sunny yesterday—mountain weather really changes in an instant! We quickly found a large rock that looked like a cave to take shelter. We were hungry, so we took out bread and sausages from our bags and ate with mountain spring water. The rain stopped as suddenly as it started. We continued walking, and the scent of grass and trees in the air became stronger. The leaves on the roadside trees hung with water droplets that dripped down with every shake. Because of the rain, the mountain stream’s flow became faster, splashing bigger water droplets against the rocks. Even the usually inconspicuous small waterfalls became more majestic.
Return Journey: Descending with Sweetness
As the sun was about to set, we started heading back. Walking on the stone steps of the canyon, I looked back. The waterfalls and pools looked like pearls scattered in the mountain stream, hidden among the red rocks and green trees. Back in the car, I was still thinking about the fun in the stream, feeling reluctant to leave. It turns out the most beautiful scenery is never in places you deliberately seek, but right here in the mountain stream of the canyon, in the splashes of the waterfall, and in the joyful moments with family.
