Stayed at Life Hotel in Yuntai Mountain, and it was incredibly impactful
🏔️ My second visit to Yuntai Mountain, unlocking more hidden experiences
This is my second time at Yuntai Mountain. Compared to the rushed first visit, this time I slowed down and discovered many beautiful things I missed before. The beauty of Yuntai Mountain goes far beyond the popular spots; the lesser-known hidden gems deep inside are what make this famous Taihang Mountain truly captivating.
🏮 Zifang Lake: Majestic calm lake in a high gorge
Many people leave right after visiting Hongshi Gorge, missing the nearby Zifang Lake. This is an artificial lake built among the mountains, with emerald-green water surrounded by lush hills, truly giving the feeling of a calm lake emerging from a high gorge.
You can take a boat tour on the lake, gliding over the green water with steep cliffs on both sides—it's incredibly relaxing. You can also stroll along the lakeside boardwalk, feel the lake breeze, and enjoy the scenic views, which is very soothing. At dusk, the sunset casts golden light on the lake, sparkling beautifully.
⛰️ Zhuyu Peak: Climb Taihang’s highest peak and see all other mountains below
I missed climbing Zhuyu Peak on my first visit due to time constraints, but this time I made up for it. Zhuyu Peak is the highest peak of Yuntai Mountain, standing at 1,308 meters, requiring climbing over 1,600 steps. Though tiring, the moment you reach the top, it’s all worth it.
Along the way, you pass the famous Diecai Cave, a road carved into the cliff with 19 consecutive tunnels—truly spectacular. Sitting in the sightseeing vehicle, looking out at the cliffs, you really admire human wisdom and courage.
From the summit of Zhuyu Peak, you overlook the entire Yuntai Mountain range, with endless mountains and rolling seas of clouds. The feeling of "standing on the summit, looking down on all other mountains" is truly breathtaking. There is also a Zhenwu Temple at the top, bustling with incense offerings, where you can go in to pray.
🌉 Phoenix Ridge Glass Walkway: For the brave-hearted only
If you’re brave, you must try the Phoenix Ridge Glass Walkway! This walkway is built on a cliff over 1,000 meters above sea level, stretching more than 400 meters, with a sheer drop beneath your feet.
The first time I stepped on it, my legs felt weak, but once you get used to it, it’s thrilling. Standing on the glass walkway, overlooking the entire valley, the sensation of being suspended in midair is amazing. It’s also perfect for photos—your social media will definitely get tons of likes.
⛩️ Wanshan Temple: A thousand-year-old ancient temple deep in the mountains
Wanshan Temple is a thousand-year-old ancient temple nestled in the green mountains of Yuntai Mountain, very quiet and peaceful. Few tourists visit here, but the incense offerings are abundant, making it a place for true tranquility.
Entering the temple, incense smoke curls around, and the chanting of monks calms your mind. You can slowly explore the temple, listen to the monks reciting scriptures, pray to Buddha, and sip some Zen tea. The spiritual peace here is something you can never find in the city.
🚶 Hiking route: Discover the wild beauty of Yuntai Mountain
This time I also tried a lesser-known hiking trail, continuing from the end of Tanpu Gorge. It’s a trail rarely traveled by tourists, surrounded by pristine nature, with babbling streams and dense forests, and very few people.
Walking this path, you truly immerse yourself in nature, listening to birdsong, smelling the fresh scent of plants, stepping through streams—it’s an amazing feeling. Along the way, I encountered many wild animals like squirrels, pheasants, and various birds, which was very interesting.
🌙 Yuntai Mountain at night is even more enchanting than during the day
Many people don’t know that Yuntai Mountain’s nights are incredibly charming. The service area on the shore is lively at night, with a brightly lit snack street, the aroma of various foods filling the air, and many souvenir shops.
If you’re lucky, you can also catch the live performance "Yuntai Bright Moon Flame," set against the Taihang Mountains, combining lights, music, and dance to tell the story of Yuntai Mountain—it’s truly stunning.
The mountain is very quiet at night, without city noise, only the sounds of insects and wind. Staying in a mountain guesthouse, opening the window reveals a sky full of stars—this feeling is simply beautiful.
🍵 Hidden treasure cafes in the mountains
I also discovered several hidden treasure cafes in the mountains, which was a wonderful surprise. One is near the exit of Hongshi Gorge, by a stream. Sitting outdoors, listening to the flowing water and sipping coffee is incredibly relaxing.
Another is in the shore service area, run by a guesthouse owner, with stylish decor and excellent coffee. In the afternoon, sitting in the cafe, reading a book or daydreaming, time just slows down.
💌 A letter to those planning to visit Yuntai Mountain
Many say two days is enough for Yuntai Mountain, but I think you need at least three days to truly appreciate its beauty. Day one: visit Hongshi Gorge and Zifang Lake; day two: explore Tanpu Gorge, Quanpu Gorge, and Monkey Valley; day three: climb Zhuyu Peak and walk the glass walkway. This way, you won’t be rushed and can enjoy it slowly.
Yuntai Mountain is a place you never get tired of no matter how many times you visit. In spring, the mountains bloom with flowers; summer has waterfalls and streams; autumn brings colorful forests; winter offers spectacular ice waterfalls. Each season has its own charm. Summer is definitely the most comfortable season, with cool 25°C weather, lush greenery, and fun water activities—you can’t miss it.
If you want to escape the city heat or find a beautiful mountain and water retreat to cool off, come to Yuntai Mountain. The coolness, the scenery, and the food here will never disappoint you.
