Essential Travel Information for Yancheng

Yancheng literally means "Salt City". It gets its name from its proximity to the salt sea. It was established here more than 2,100 years ago during the Han Dynasty. The city has a beautiful golden coastline, a long and storied history and a strong culture surrounding sea salt, a priceless commodity of the ancient world. Yancheng has numerous famous historical sites and ruins. Shi Nai'an, the author of "Water Margin" (one of China's Four Great Novels) came from Suzhou’s Yancheng. The Reading Hall of Fan Zhongyan, the Duke of Cho, is also a worthwhile place to visit. Yancheng is also home to the New Fourth Army Memorial and Old Headquarters of the New Fourth Army. If you are interested in modern history, this is a great place to visit. Because Yancheng is rich in commodities and interesting folk customs, it is sometimes referred to by the beautiful moniker "The Land of Fish and Rice".
