A guide to stunning snowscapes in Yosemite in January ❄️
## January Good Places 2026
January is definitely the best time to experience the beauty of American nature when you visit Yosemite National Park! The itinerary spans California’s Mariposa County and Yusemite Village, with views of forests, meadows, towering mountains, spectacular waterfalls and ice and snow along the way. A slow drive through, the blue sky and white clouds on the road and the tranquility all around was completely relaxing. But the best part is staying at the Yosemite Valley Inn, stepping out the door to embrace the magnificent valley, evening heating, warm house, just right for a family.
Main line highlights
🛌 Yosemite Valley Lodge
Extremely convenient location, 15 minutes walk to the starting point of the waterfall, surrounded by natural landscapes on all sides. The inn is biased towards American country style, although it is old but has complete facilities, sleep peacefully and comfortably. Some rooms have a balcony + mini fridge, perfect for soaking in nature for a night. However, it is best to check the status of the facilities before checking in, some rooms will be soundproofed or equipped with older.
🌲 Must-see attractions first look
1. Vernal Falls (inside Superior America National Park, California, USA, North America)
One of the classic trails, this time it is recommended to walk to the waterfall observation deck for the first time. Along the way, you will cross the rapids and stone stairs. In winter, the waterfall often has ice fog, and the sunshine is beautiful!
2. Yosemite Valley View (Northside Dr, Wawona, CA 95389)
This vantage point is a must-see to capture the signature beauty of Yosemite and is open all day year round! In winter, the mountains are white with snow, and there may be thin ice reflections on the river. Remember to bring your camera to take pictures of this rare scene.
3. Yosemite Falls (95389 California, USA)
One of the highest waterfalls in the United States, ice hanging and moisture can even be seen by the falls in winter. The trail is easy to walk and free to enter and exit all day long, making it perfect for a family-friendly excursion.
4. Badger Pass Ski Area
Be sure to save a day for skiing! Perfect for beginners and parents, well-equipped ski lessons, and great scenery on the slopes. Even if you are not skiing, you can still sled and hike on snow trails.
Itinerary tips
- The national park has a daily shuttle bus that passes through key attractions and trailheads, saving you the hassle of parking.
- Entrance and restaurant opening hours are limited (especially snow season), if you plan to leave after lunch it is best to check. Hot food is served at the inn and at the main restaurants in the park, and it is recommended to book in advance or check the menu to avoid waiting too long during peak hours.
- Remember to bring enough warm clothing and non-slip hiking shoes when the temperature is low at night in winter. There is snow or ice in some parts of the trail, be safe.
Eat & Stay Small Suggestions
Valley-area restaurants such as Base Camp Eatery (next to the Lodge), which focus on fast food and easy hot food, charge cheap prices. Most room types provide basic amenities, but it is more convenient to bring a small amount of dry food, hot drinks (coffee bags/soup). Note that some rooms may have minor problems such as obsolescence and sound insulation. It is recommended to communicate in advance or apply for a room change on site.
Transportation guide
California drives into the national park for about 6 hours, and some sections may require the installation of tire chains in winter, essential car insurance for entry into the park. The park has ample parking and some popular attractions are directly accessible by free bus. Be aware of wildlife activity when entering the forest area and dispose of garbage on the vehicle properly.
