Giethoorn is the "Venice" of the Netherlands. With no cars, only canals and wooden bridges, the pace of life is slow. The core activities are boating, cycling, walking, and relaxing. A 1–2 day trip is ideal. I. Best time to visit · April–June, September–October: Comfortable weather, relatively fewer tourists, and the gardens and greenery are at their most beautiful. · July–August: Peak season. It's crowded during the day, but the weather is best, and all boat tours and cafes are open. · November–March: Off-season. Quiet but cold; some shops and boat tours may have reduced hours. If it snows in winter, the frozen canals are beautiful. · Avoid: Weekends and Dutch public holidays, as there are many local tourists. II. How to get there Giethoorn is in the northeastern Netherlands. The nearest cities are Zwolle and Steenwijk. · From Amsterdam: Take a train to Steenwijk, then transfer to bus 70 to Giethoorn. The journey takes about 2 hours. · From Zwolle: Take a train to Steenwijk, then transfer to the bus. The journey takes about 1 hour. · By car: Navigate to Giethoorn. There are paid parking lots at the village entrance, but parking is limited during peak season. · Day tours: There are many round-trip day tours from Amsterdam. They are convenient but have fixed schedules. Tip: If you want to stay overnight, book a stay in the village or a nearby guesthouse to experience Giethoorn in the early morning and evening without the crowds—it's a completely different experience. III. Core activities 1. Boating Boating is a must in Giethoorn. There are three options: · Self-drive electric boat: The most flexible option. Rented by the hour, no license required, and staff will provide basic instruction. Suitable for 2–6 people. · Guided boat tour: Includes a captain's commentary. Convenient and suitable for those who don't want to drive themselves. · Canoe/kayak: Quieter and can access narrow waterways. Suitable for those who enjoy exercise. Recommended route: Start from the village center and head toward Bovenwijde Lake for open water and beautiful scenery. 2. Cycling There are bike paths outside the village where you can ride to Weerribben-Wieden National Park to see reed beds and water birds. Rent bikes at the village entrance or in Steenwijk. 3. Walking The village walking paths follow the canals, with wooden bridges connecting homes. Visit the Museum Giethoorn 't Olde Maat Uus to see traditional thatched roofs and local life. 4. Thatched roofs Iconic architecture of Giethoorn. The roofs are made of reeds, keeping the houses warm in winter and cool in summer. The best photo spots are along the canal in the village center and along Binnenpad. IV. Zwolle, a quiet town, is like a water town 🌊, with canals, old streets, and sparse pedestrians. De Librije is hidden here, a converted old prison 🔗. The moment you push open the door, you won't think of iron bars, only of a feast ✨. To sum it up: this is a meal worth making a special trip for! 🔥Michelin three stars, a reliable and trustworthy choice! 🍽️ Appetizers The menu is like a "Passport of Taste," starting with oysters, sweetfish, and red cabbage 🎯. Each dish tells you: we're not in a hurry, you can take your time flipping through it~ · Morel pancakes from Giethoorn, with a rustic charm · Foie gras with brown shrimp and tomatoes, rich but not greasy · Langoustine, carrots, and red herbs, colors like an oil painting, yet light on the palate 🌏 Surprises What surprised me most was the flavor profile! This place incorporates many Asian elements 👨‍🍳 The seasoning is so delicate, it feels like someone has gently spread a layer on your tongue 💫 The ratio of salt to butter is just right—not bland, not overly heavy. It's really friendly to Asian palates ❤ You won't get that tired feeling of "I'm trying so hard to understand Europe"~ 🍷 Main Course · Pomfret with apple syrup and Riesling 🍷 The 1993 Riesling holds the weight of time · Pomfret, green peppercorns, seaweed, incredibly layered in freshness · Eggplant, hazelnuts, passion fruit, a touch of sweet and sour with a hint of smokiness 🔮 Taste Magic · Caviar with black pudding and red cabbage · Blue cheese, white chocolate, pistachios 🍋 Perfect Ending · Citrus with rosemary, dill, and coconut to finish · Refreshing, like someone opened a window for you after the meal 🥂 Bonus Points: The wine list is incredibly reasonably priced! A quick browse reveals several excellent wines with reasonable markups. Compared to those three-Michelin-starred restaurants that are always "overpriced on top of overpriced," this is truly commendable. 🏛 Ambiance and Service: The prison-like structure combined with the Michelin-starred soul equals a unique experience. The service isn't overly enthusiastic, but just right. The overall rhythm, layers, and temperature are perfectly balanced, like someone whispering in your ear, "Don't worry, leave it to me." If you're traveling in the Netherlands, Zwolle is definitely worth a detour. 💫

While the Dutch are famous for their epic cheese, I just struck gold with something even more drool-worthy: a shop where everything is ALL about NUTS. (And not just to snack on—think nut-inspired t-shirts, hoodies, sandals, and even hilarious socks! Seriously, the vibe here is totally extra 🥜😂.) Imagine this: raw nuts, crunchy roasted nuts, chocolate-dipped nuts, nuts with shells, nuts without shells—the menu basically goes nuts. But here’s the REAL jaw-dropper: the nut butters. Legit, these spreads come in the most wild, mouth-watering flavors ever (stroopwafel, caramel, honey... and that’s just scraping the jar 🤤). Feeling spicy, savory, or a combo? Yup, got it—all with a twist. I’m telling you, it’s love at first taste. And hey, if you’ve got a nut allergy, you can still get in on the fun with the merch (nutty socks for everyone?!) The absolute best part? The staff go OFF with free samples. No joke—they’ll hand you spoonfuls of every single spread. Control? Yeah, I lost mine instantly, but zero regrets. You 1000% will leave snacking happy. So, craving your own nut case adventure? You need to check out De Pindakaaswinkel Zwolle. Here’s what you need to know: De Pindakaaswinkel Zwolle Address: Luttekestraat 15, 8011 LP Zwolle, Netherlands Opening hours: Mon–Sat 10:00–18:00; Sun 12:00–17:00 Tbh, this was the ONLY legit all-nut shop I found after a whole week in Holland, and now I’m obsessed. Come join the nutty squad! Hit up De Pindakaaswinkel and unleash your inner nut-lover—it’s honestly impossible not to smile (and snack). #zwolle #travel2026 #holland #peanuts

We stumbled upon an absolute gem in Zwolle—a cheese shop that’s been around for 45 years, literally as old as my first brother! Naturally, both of us had to snag something from this iconic spot for him (siblings gotta look out for each other, right? 😂). The shop is called Zuivelhoeve Zwolle, and wow, stepping inside is like entering a world painted entirely in cheese yellow. Talk about a ✨ cheese lover’s paradise! Besides every variety of Dutch cheese you can dream of, Zuivelhoeve also had super yummy nuts and some seriously tempting wines on display. Bonus points for this: the staff were total legends about letting us sample *everything*—there were free tasters in front of every cheese type just begging to be tried. That’s what I call VIP snacking! 😍 Since we’d already hit up a few too many cafes (no regrets), we had to restrain ourselves… just a little. Still, my brother couldn’t resist grabbing a piece of the natural cheese, made extra cute with a smiley face on it. It’s honestly such a quirky and wholesome touch! Fun fact: Zuivelhoeve Zwolle is basically *the* cheese shop in the old town. If you’re out exploring Zwolle, you literally can’t miss it. Pop in for a taste—your taste buds will thank you. 🧀✨ Zuivelhoeve Zwolle Address: Melkmarkt 6, 8011 MC Zwolle, Netherlands Opening hours: Mon-Sat 9:00–18:00, Sun 12:00–17:00 Trust me, you’ll be living that Dutch cheese dream in no time. #dutchcheese #travel2026 #holland #zwolle

Academiehuis Grote Kerk Zwolle is literally the hotspot where EVERYTHING is happening in Zwolle! This iconic church (address: Grote Markt 18, 8011 LW Zwolle, Netherlands; open Tue-Sat 11:00-17:00) isn’t just an old historical landmark – it’s where past meets the present and it’s always buzzing. 🎉 Think church choir practice echoing through gorgeous stained glass, a laid-back café vibe (with liquor ☕🍹, tea, and pastries so good you’ll want to camp there all afternoon), the super helpful Zwolle Visitor Centre right on site, rotating free art exhibitions, cool government restoration projects to check out, and – plot twist – epic book deals for all you bargain hunters. Seriously, it’s 1001 things under ONE epic roof! What blew my mind the most? You get hit with this insane wave of history (the building dates back to the 15th century!) but everyone’s just vibing – some browsing art, others flipping through old books, or just hanging out with a local brew. Free exhibitions mean you can soak up creative inspiration on any budget. 🎨🙌 If you’re all about experiences, trust me: drop by during a choir rehearsal (or performance if you’re lucky!) and let the music carry you back in time. Or do what my brother did and chill with a beer – ultimate main character energy. This was actually our second café stop that day (Het Zuidkoor, also inside the church, nailed the atmosphere for sure) and it totally delivered. Zwolle honestly surprised me with how much magic is packed into one building. Don’t miss Academiehuis Grote Kerk Zwolle if you like history, culture, foodie hangs, or just catching those feel-good community vibes. There's literally something for everyone – major FOMO if you skip out! ⭐ #zwolle #holland #travel2026

We randomly stumbled upon Van der Velde Boeken & Brasserie, the bookstore gem of Zwolle! Seriously, this spot has been around since 1892—which is basically more than a lifetime of unforgettable stories stacked up under one roof. 🤩 That’s almost 135 years of book magic! Major respect to the Dutch for their book obsession. These folks don’t mess around—they’re all about flipping through the latest read rather than snapping endless pics (although, trust me, this place is SO insta-worthy!). The shelves here are packed with page-turners for every possible age and interest. Whether you’re into fantasy, history, travel, or even kids’ books, you’ll find your next obsession waiting for you. We took a quick daytrip from Nunspeet to Zwolle and, while wandering through the main lane of the old town (Oude Vismarkt), we stumbled across Taiwan Restaurant — and trust me, foodies, this spot is a hidden gem! 💎 The restaurant opens at 4pm, so we rolled in just before 5pm, ready to dive into some drool-worthy Peranakan comfort food. First up, I ordered the Spring Roll with Noodles, filled with juicy chicken and just the right kick of egg. My brother went for the Indonesian fave, Fu Yong Hai — an epic omelette loaded with mushrooms, chicken, carrots, and cabbage, all smothered in a tangy-sweet-and-sour sauce. Of course, I HAD to try their unique twist on Mapo Tofu (spoiler: not the fiery Sichuan version, but a yummy Dutch-Indo-Chinese mashup you won’t find anywhere else). Taiwan Restaurant’s friendly vibes made the experience 10x better! We got free crackers and a homemade welcome drink (served in a cute soju shot glass, no less). Major bonus: the shopkeeper is from Indonesia with Chinese descent and has been bringing her flavorful heritage to Holland for over 20 years. She made us feel right at home — and even treated all the ladies to adorable homemade cupcakes for Mother’s Day. Can you say wholesome vibes only? 🧁❤️ If you want to check it out, Taiwan Restaurant is at Oude Vismarkt 11-13, 8011 TM Zwolle. They usually open from 4pm to 9pm and closed on Tuesdays. Whether you’re craving homestyle Peranakan dishes or just want a taste of heartwarming hospitality, this spot seriously hits all the foodie feels. Next time you’re in Zwolle, add it to your must-try list for a meal you won’t forget! 😋🌟

For two consecutive days, I locked myself in the only three-Michelin-starred green building in the Netherlands. I willingly surrendered! 💚 📍Address: Spinhuisplein 1, 8011 ZZ Zwolle The story of De Librije is so magical! 📚 From library → women's prison → Michelin three stars → the world's first green star Behind every door is a legend ✨ 🥜The appetizers completely captivated me. The crispy pea shells were so satisfying! The combination of horseradish and yellow mustard was amazing! Kohlrabi, verbena, rose, beetroot, and parsley It's like spring has been planted in the plate! 🌈 🦪Oyster lovers, scream with delight! Yerseke oysters + baby herring + purple cabbage... This bounty from the sea instantly transported me back to the Zeeland coast! 🌊 [Awesome] Culinary Details: Caviar soaked in sherry and hidden inside an "egg," with mashed potatoes, onions, cherry leaves, and smoked egg yolk underneath. This isn't just cuisine, it's performance art! 💫 🦐 The second day's signature dish was absolutely amazing: 2004 sweet bread + lemongrass, pineapple, and peanuts; 1998 cheese + rabbit kidney chorizo. 🍠 The MVP of the meal was this vegan dish: coconut chicken-flavored sauce + pagoda cauliflower; the nasturtium and nut bits as garnish were simply divine. 🧀 The Dutch cheese roulette deserves special praise. The layers of flavor, from mild to intense, were a symphony on the palate! 🎻 🌟 My biggest takeaway from the two days: Not about showing off skills, but about mastering rhythm! The pace, the stops and starts, everything is perfectly controlled. The taste buds are thrilled like on a rollercoaster! 🎢 A sincere recommendation: Don't just visit Amsterdam when you come to the Netherlands. This culinary pilgrimage to Zwolle is worth making a special trip for!

Swolle is another city that has many feelings. It is a beautiful city. Every angle you take a picture from is beautiful. 🇳🇱

#11goodplace2024 #usj At Zuivelhoeve Zwolle in Zwolle, I had an unforgettable cheese tour. This shop is famous for its diverse selection of Dutch cheeses and the atmosphere is warm and inviting. When I walked into the store, I was immediately attracted by the various colorful cheeses. The shop assistant was very enthusiastic and introduced me to the different types of cheese, including the classic Gouda cheese and the uniquely flavored spiced cheese. I also had the opportunity to taste freshly made cheese, the rich taste was so tempting that I couldn't stop. In addition to cheese, the store also has a variety of ingredients and handmade products, which allowed me to pick out some to take home. This trip to the Zweilhof cheese shop gave me a deeper understanding of the Dutch cheese culture. It was truly a delicious experience! 💰Average consumption: HKD$250
