This hotel far exceeded our expectations! It was unanimously praised by my travel companions during this trip. It just goes to show that you get what you pay for. It's only about 100-200 meters from Gora Station for the Hakone Tozan Railway, and there's a bus stop right outside the hotel that goes to Gotemba Premium Outlets. This made transferring transportation so easy, without having to drag our luggage too far, and it was punctual and convenient. Everyone, when you get to Hakone-Yumoto Station, remember to absolutely send your luggage ahead at the station. It's only 1000 yen per person for large luggage. We arrived at the hotel in the afternoon, and our bags were already in our room. This service is incredibly thoughtful and human-centric. The nearby gyoza restaurant was quite good. If you haven't booked dinner, you can give it a try. I highly recommend the kimchi gyoza soup. Breakfast was a standard buffet, with both Japanese and Western options, and a good variety to choose from. The private onsen required a wait, so we only experienced the public bath. Perhaps because it was a weekday evening, there was no one else there, so it practically felt like we had the place to ourselves.

Hakone Hotel Kowakien, a natural onsen hotel offering dinner and breakfast that I'd rate 90 out of 100. It's not easy to impress me in Hakone, the famed hot spring town in Kanagawa Prefecture, but this hotel truly excelled across all criteria, showing a consistently high standard. Both the front desk and restaurant staff were attractive, with fluent English and standard accents; notably, they didn't employ any Southeast Asian staff. The hotel facilities are relatively new and well-designed, and the cleanliness is exceptional. The public areas offer plenty of sofa seating, and the temperature control is precise, allowing guests to comfortably wander around in traditional yukata without feeling cold. The air is fresh with no strong artificial scents, embodying a 'Natural and Pure' concept. The restaurant, named Fontainebleau, lives up to its name with authentic French pastries. The 'all-you-can-eat' style still maintains high-quality ingredients, and there's an unlimited supply of Sapporo Asahi draft beer and Gekkeikan sake. What's more, the self-service alcohol bar is also open during breakfast, which seems quite common for Japanese guests – their physical resilience certainly differs from ours! Observing Japanese dining concepts, you'll notice several characteristics: a wide variety of dishes, comprehensive nutrition, low-temperature preservation, minimal oil and seasoning, and avoiding high-temperature cooking to prevent nutrient loss. The sauna is also quite professional, featuring a 12-minute sand timer, anti-scald mats, humidity and temperature displays, and powerful heating elements that ensure you won't waste any time. Whether you prefer mountain views, garden vistas, or indoor hot springs, there's an option for everyone. For those interested, the address is: 1297 Ninotaira, Hakone-machi, Kanagawa Prefecture 250-0407

The main selling point of this Japanese-style hotel is its walking distance to Enoshima and Kamakura High School, and the rooms offer lovely ocean views. However, the one drawback is the lack of facilities to rinse off your feet. It was quite inconvenient after a day at the beach not to have anywhere to wash the sand off.

The room was quite spacious; we had no problem opening two 28-inch suitcases. The bathroom had a separate wet and dry area. The hotel is right above a subway station, just two stops from Yokohama Station, and a taxi ride costs about 1000-ish JPY. Right next to the hotel, the Mark Is shopping mall has a good selection of outdoor brands like Arc'teryx, Descente, Salomon, Oakley, Montbell, etc., plus a supermarket where you can grab lots of tasty snacks. It's also a short walk to the Red Brick Warehouse. Overall, it's great value for money if you're staying in Yokohama.

I had a very pleasant stay at this hotel and would happily recommend it. The location is convenient, making it easy to get around and access nearby amenities. The room was clean, comfortable, and well maintained, with thoughtful details that made the stay relaxing. The staff were friendly, professional, and always willing to help, which really made a difference. Check-in and check-out were smooth and efficient. I also appreciated the quiet atmosphere, which allowed for a good night’s rest. Overall, this hotel offers great value for money and a comfortable experience. I would definitely consider staying here again on my next visit.

The room was spacious enough for two 24-inch suitcases to open comfortably. On clear mornings, you could even see Mount Fuji from the window, which was a nice bonus! It's super convenient for exploring the surrounding areas from Yokohama – easy access to Tokyo, Haneda Airport, Hakone, and Kamakura. Perfect for an extended stay if you're doing day trips. There's a supermarket downstairs that's open until 11 PM with great prices; a box of Haagen-Dazs was only ten yuan, so I ended up eating it every night! The only minor inconvenience was getting water in the room; you had to go to the hallway to refill, which I guess might be due to Kanagawa's environmental policies, as Tokyo doesn't seem to have this setup.

This hotel was perfect until check-out. The guy at the front desk was very friendly and helped carry the suitcases. There were board games in the lounge and the hot spring was also very good. The weird thing was that when we checked out, we didn't know that we couldn't rest in the lounge after check-out, so we were kicked out. The staff kicked us out with a nasty face. We said sorry in a nice way, but they didn't even look at us and waved us away... Is this the attitude of a service industry! Or is it the Japanese service industry... too much?

View: The room offers a fantastic view, the lake-view room on the 19th floor provides a spacious and comfortable panorama. Parking: Free! Just navigate to the hotel and drive into the large parking lot you'll see (we circled three times, but the signs are actually very clear). After getting your parking ticket, check in and register it at the front desk. You can then enter and exit as many times as you like, free of charge, which is very convenient. Completely free. Facilities: Surprisingly dated. Booking this for over 2000 yen during New Year's, it felt like a Japanese budget hotel. Seriously needs an upgrade; it might deter families. Choosing a Japanese-style room would be much better. Food: Breakfast was great. For other meals, we had to make reservations due to New Year's, so we ended up eating instant noodles (there are many convenience stores nearby). Activities: During New Year's, there were traditional cultural activities in the lobby, which was a nice experience.

The staff was very friendly and the amenities included use of the onsen for one hour was great as it was included within the price. The room was clean peaceful and had a nice Japanese vibe. Unfortunately, the room is not en suite. I would say the location wasn’t great as you should note it isn’t actually in the main area of Hakone but rather by the lake where you take the boat ride. You also have to walk up a hill to get there.

Hakone Kowakien Ten-yu Hotel was an amazing experience! The hotel boasts multiple natural hot springs with a rich variety of baths and breathtaking scenery; soaking in them left me feeling completely refreshed. The rooms are spacious and elegant, with stylish Japanese decor that ensures privacy. The dinner buffet was exquisite, featuring fresh and delicious ingredients. The staff were warm and attentive, always greeting guests with a smile. Its convenient location also offers easy access to transportation. Both the facilities and service truly reflect the high quality of Japanese onsen hotels. Highly recommended!

GGuest UserI spent a wonderful night here during New Year's Eve. The waiter barely understands people and foreign languages, but he is friendly and good at communication. I booked a public bathroom first, but then I changed it to a private bath when there was room. My satisfaction improved a lot! The hotel is very close to Hakoyō-Yumoto Station, and the taxi cost was less than 1,000 yen. Later, we couldn't get a taxi and it was very comfortable for us to walk to the station for 15 minutes with our children🏳️🌈

11360173****Ryori-yaku (restaurant name), the hot springs in Hakone are unparalleled, but the food here really deserves mention. I've been to Ryori-yaku in Izu before, and compared to that, this one probably suits my taste better. It's not as sweet, so the food is refreshing and not cloying. The only downside is that the rooms are really small—every inch of space is precious!

AAnonymous UserWe booked a hot spring hotel on short notice and were very satisfied with it. We arrived early and could not check in until after 3:30 pm, but fortunately we could leave our luggage at the hotel. The staff helped us make the bed when we were having dinner in the evening. There was a rich variety of dinner, but we didn’t really like the side dishes. It would have been better if the side dishes were replaced with sashimi. We even had a surprise dessert after the meal, which made us very happy. The breakfast the next day was also very filling and delicious. The experience is very good and recommended for staying.

GGuest UserI had a wonderful stay at Rakuten Stay Fujimi Terrace! The day before check-in, I received an email with the entrance code, which made the whole process very smooth. The room was exactly as described on the website—with large windows offering an incredible view of Mt. Fuji, the torii gate, and the lake. The scenery alone made it more than worth it. We had eight people staying in two 4-person rooms located on the third floor. One of the rooms was slightly larger and had extra bedding stored in the closet—enough to comfortably sleep two additional people. There were two bathrooms and two toilets in total, which was perfect for a group or family. The main bathroom included a sauna, hot spring-style bath, shower area, double sinks, a washing machine, and a water dispenser. The second bathroom had a separate shower area and a single sink. Both toilets were separated spaces from bathrooms with high-tech with bidet functions and small sinks. The large dining table and spacious sofa area easily seated all of us. We spent many relaxing moments on the balcony, soaking our feet in the warm onsen foot bath, chatting, and admiring the stunning view. The kitchen was fully equipped with a dishwasher, detergent, a large fridge stocked with complimentary drinks, a capsule coffee machine, and a Japanese rice cooker that made delicious rice. The beds were on the firmer side but still soft and very comfortable. It was just a 3-minute walk along the lake to the 7-Eleven, accessible by elevator from the building. The nearby pier was where we boarded the pirate ship cruise, and about 13 minutes further along the lake was the Peace Torii—a fantastic photo spot. Don’t forget to grasp some delicious bread at “bakery and table” before boarding to the ship. After check-out, we stored our luggage in the lockers at Motohakone Port, took the pirate ship to Togendai, transferred to the ropeway to Sounzan, and visited Gora and Kowakudani before taking the mountain bus back to Motohakone to pick up our luggages. There are 4 lockers for suitcase up to 32 inches ¥700, 12 lockers for 24 inches ¥600, and 10 lockers for smaller size of bags ¥400. From there, we had a pre-arranged shuttle take us back to Tokyo. The whole route was smooth and well-organized—perfect for a larger group traveling without a car. Overall, I highly recommend Rakuten Stay!

KkewinnThis five-star hotel in Yokohama truly redefines luxury with its impeccable details and sophisticated ambiance. Every moment, from check-in to check-out, was a delightful surprise, making it my top recommendation for anyone visiting Yokohama—a true hidden gem! The hotel's location is absolutely superb, nestled in the charming, exotic Yamashita-cho. It's within walking distance of Yokohama Station and close to popular attractions like Minato Mirai 21 and the Red Brick Warehouse. Getting to Chinatown and Sankeien Garden is also incredibly convenient, making it perfect for both sightseeing and business trips. What truly captivated me was its ”East-meets-West” design philosophy. Inspired by Yokohama's port-opening culture, it beautifully blends traditional Japanese aesthetics with modern Western design. The art installations adorning the lobby and the Samurai-inspired screen headboards in the guest rooms exude a subtle yet refined elegance, allowing you to feel a sense of vintage charm amidst the contemporary surroundings.

GGuest UserOverall an ok stay. A bit hard to find, very limited English spoken by the staff which led to some confusion (even for the representatives who were assigned to us by English speakers). Felt quite formal and not that warm Room was more or less as expected, and the dinner and breakfast meals were quite elaborate. Felt that breakfast was actually the stronger meal of the two, so wasn’t necessarily worth it to pay extra for dinner. I’d likely skip doing dinner in the future. The room attendant who helped us was very kind and attentive, although we had a bit of language barrier given we don’t speak Japanese. The big disappointment was even though the ryokan is advertised as allowing guests to book one of the larger hot springs on the property for private use for 45 minutes, we weren’t able to do this. We arrived within the designated check in time and were told that it was all booked up for the day. There was no way to book in advance and we were only staying for one night, and they didn’t try to accommodate allowing us to book at all for the next day before checkout. This really hampered the experience overall - we weren’t that interested in using the gender segregated facility (was traveling with my partner who is the opposite gender) as we wouldn’t be able to spend time together, and the tub in our room was quite small. They should amend this policy to allow all guests to book a private hot spring time or not advertise it as part of the room! Feels like we got cheated out of the service and we weren’t offered anything else as an alternative. I would have booked another ryokan had I known this were the case - there are many others in Hakone which are much better value and have nicer / newer private facilities for around the same price. I wouldn’t recommend Yama no Chaya given this was a big part of what we thought would make it a good experience

AANASTASIIA_BERDNIKOVAThis hotel is a paradise in the mountains of Hakone! Traditional style of the rooms - it feels like you are living in a Japanese family. We were prepared a traditional dinner, which was served in our room. It was very tasty and varied! The hotel has 3 onsen: 2 - private, 1 - public. We visited only the private ones (you need to book a time in advance at the reception upon check-in, the visit time is 30 minutes). It was wonderful! The hotel also provides a transfer from and to the nearest train stations. The rooms are clean, cozy, we slept on tatami under soft blankets. The hotel has a relax room. With massage chairs and a very quiet atmosphere. We stayed in this room after visiting the onsen and got great relaxation. And you are also given national clothes for rest and sleep. It is very beautiful and cute. Breakfasts were also in kaiseki style - varied and unusual. The hotel staff is very kind and friendly. this hotel allows tattoo baths. great experience, thank you very much! want to come back again!

QQingmuみお① The service was excellent! On our first day, we lost our Suica card and couldn't retrieve our luggage from the JR station locker. We asked the front desk staff for help, and they made three calls, but couldn't get through. It was after 5 PM on a Sunday, so we thought the locker staff might be off duty or gone for the day. We were resigned to dealing with it the next morning, but shortly after we got to our room, the front desk called back – they had reached the staff and we could pick up our luggage that same day! We were incredibly surprised and grateful! ② Breakfast is on the ninth floor with a great view. The variety isn't huge, but it's delicious. We ate there for five days, and they changed up the dishes slightly each day. Eating at the hotel is convenient and the food is good, though for night owls, it means you can't sleep in; you have to get up by 9-ish for breakfast. ③ The room environment was clean and tidy, not too big and not too small. Pajamas were provided on the bed, and the air purifier worked well. The TV had a platform for watching Chinese TV shows. The only minor drawbacks were that the space between the TV and the bed was a bit narrow, and the curtains weren't very blackout, so we sometimes woke up at 8 or 9 AM. For environmental reasons, there's no bottled water in the room, but there are cups you can use to get water from the dispenser by the elevator. I didn't use it, as it seemed a bit inconvenient; buying a large bottle of water at the 7-Eleven downstairs wasn't expensive anyway. The toothpaste comes in small single-use tabs, good for one or two applications. If the room isn't serviced, and no one replaces them, you need to pick up more from a small drawer opposite the front desk. This area also had Yokohama maps available. The air conditioning only provided cool air. The days I was there, temperatures were in the teens (Celsius), and one day it was only 8 degrees, but the room felt fine. I'm not sure if it would be cold in winter. ④ It's about a 15-minute walk to Yokohama Station. By the third or fourth day, we were pretty familiar with the route, and you can take shortcuts just like in domestic subway stations. From the hotel, walk straight ahead to the overpass, take the escalator down from Sogo, and you'll reach Yokohama Station. However, for your first time, I'd recommend following walking directions on the surface streets (I did this when checking in from Yokohama Station, using Google Maps) to avoid getting lost. The hotel is also a short walk to the seaside and the Red Brick Warehouse. Getting around feels quite convenient. Overall, I booked this hotel for about 700 JPY per night (including breakfast), and personally, I think it offers good value for money and is a worthwhile choice.

JJinRongThe hotel's location is excellent!👍 Coming from Tokyo, we took the Odakyu Line OH01 (starting station) from Shinjuku West Exit to Odawara Station OH47. From there, we just walked across the platform to transfer to the Hakone Tozan Railway to Hakone-Yumoto Station OH51. After exiting the station, we crossed the pedestrian bridge, took the elevator down to the river, and walked across the red bridge, and there was the hotel. The path is very flat, perfect for those traveling with luggage. Since we only booked our Hakone stay two days in advance, there were no connecting rooms available. We stayed in a standard room the first night and then moved to a Japanese-style room the second day, which had a great view. The hotel breakfast included natto, and the rest was pretty standard. If you go early, it's less crowded, but after 8 AM, you'll likely have to queue for a table. You can also take a public bus from the hotel to Togendai or Gotemba, but buses are less frequent after 9:30 AM, so it's advisable to leave early. All in all, while the hotel was a bit pricey, its convenient location and multiple transportation options made it worthwhile.
