”Glory in the Past”
Strategic location (5-7 minutes to Kampung Cina), the staffs are friendly, the aircond is cold enough, basement parking is free & view of Jambatan Angkat. Other than that, wasn't that good staying experience.
- Room smells moldy (carpet & moisture)
- The bed sheet wasn't clean
- Breakfast was just so so
Back in the day, this hotel might be awesome but now I prefer staying in boutique hotel to be fair, at least it's new & fresh
Stayed at Raia Hotel recently. The earliest check-in I was able to get was at 2:30 PM, which was a bit later than I expected. The room was generally clean and comfortable, but there was an air leak/dripping issue from the air conditioner, which was quite inconvenient. Staff were polite and helpful, though. With a bit of maintenance improvement, it could be a much better stay.
I recently stayed at Hotel Tanjong Vista in Kuala Terengganu and had a mixed experience. While the location was excellent—close to eateries, laundry services, seaview room and KTCC Mall—the overall stay left much to be desired.
Unfortunately, the room had a strong smell of cigar smoke, which was quite unpleasant. The cleanliness of the room also needs improvement, as it didn’t meet the standards I expected.
As for the breakfast, it was very basic and not up to standard. There was limited variety and the quality could definitely be improved.
That said, the hotel’s strategic location is a major plus, especially for those looking to explore the city or run errands nearby.
Friendly customer service, location strategic near to town, walking distance to 2 mall nearby. Recommended hotel for short and long stay. Walking distance to NSAT! We had wonderful 4 nights stay!
✅ Main Advantages
1. Very Strategic Location
The hotel is located right in the heart of Kuala Terengganu city, near Kampung Cina / Jalan Kg Cina — making it very convenient to reach Pasar Payang, souvenir shops, dining spots, or just take a relaxing walk around.
Many guests have mentioned that the location is “hard to beat” and “super convenient.”
So if you “like staying here because it’s close to Pasar Payang,” this hotel definitely meets that expectation.
2. Charming Boutique Design & Atmosphere
The hotel features a vintage/colonial Malay–Chinese (Peranakan) style with distinctive decorative and furniture details.
Many guests appreciate the beautiful and “Instagrammable” interior design and room decor.
3. Decent Rooms & Good Value for Money
While it’s not a luxury hotel, most guests feel that for the location and price, it’s a great choice. For example, the “Superior King” room starts from around RM190+ during normal seasons.
Reviews generally mention that the rooms are clean and comfortable, providing a satisfying experience overall.
⸻
⚠️ Disadvantages / Things to Note
1. Room Size
Some guests mentioned that the rooms are rather small, especially for two to three people or if you have large luggage.
So, if you’re traveling with your wife and two young children, it’s better to choose a larger room (like the “Deluxe Family”) for more space.
2. Facilities & Minor Details Could Be Improved
• Some reviews said the air conditioning control could be better — the room felt warm even at low settings.
• Limited parking: the hotel provides open-air parking, but spaces are quite few.
• Some rooms have slightly quirky layouts, such as glass bathrooms or sinks placed outside the bathroom.
• A few guests felt that staff service could be more friendly (though this is not a common issue).
3. Family Rooms
If you’re staying with young children, confirm the “Family” room type to ensure it’s suitable — for example, check if there’s any glass wall in the bathroom. Make sure the room setup is family-friendly.
⸻
🎯 Who Is It Suitable For?
• Ideal for couples or small families who want the best central location and the ability to walk easily to markets, shops, and eateries.
• Less suitable if you need a large space, luxury facilities, or ample parking — in that case, other hotels might be more appropriate.
⸻
📝 Tips for Your Stay
• Book a larger room (e.g. Deluxe or Family) if traveling with family for better comfort.
• Arriving early or late? Check parking first — you may need to unload your luggage before parking.
• If possible, request a room with a window, as some reviews mentioned that “windowless rooms” can feel stuffy.
• Bring light clothing or t-shirts, as even with air-conditioning, some rooms felt a bit warm.
• When exploring Pasar Payang or Kampung Cina on foot, go in the morning or late afternoon to avoid traffic and parking congestion.
⸻
✅ Conclusion
In summary, The Payang Hotel is an excellent choice if your top priority is staying very close to Pasar Payang and downtown Kuala Terengganu, while enjoying a charming boutique atmosphere.
With a bit of compromise on room size and a few minor facilities, you’ll still get a comfortable and practical stay in a highly convenient location.
I just returned from my trip and had a fantastic stay at this hotel. The absolute best part about it is its incredible location. If proximity to the main attractions is important to you, this is the place to be.
The hotel's vicinity to the town center is perfect. It’s just a short walk to the famous Pasar Payang and Mayang Mall, which made exploring and shopping so convenient. We didn't have to worry about transportation or getting around; everything we wanted to see and do was right there.
The convenience extends to dining as well. There are ”lots of food shops nearby,” offering a great variety of local cuisine. This made finding meals extremely easy, and we never had to venture far for a great bite to eat.
Overall, the ease and convenience provided by the location truly enhanced our vacation. The stay was ”easy and without worries” because everything was within reach. I highly recommend this hotel for anyone looking for a stress-free stay near the heart of the town's action.
The room is a little small but comfy. For me its really good as we only need to lay down for a bit. Overall the cleanliness and the hotel is very easy to locate. And the best of it all is the hotel is in close proximity with all the place of interest. Do consider this hotel if you want to stay in city centre and pay less money compared to other hotels or resorts nearby.
Hotel is quite practical. Near chinatown which offers many food choices. I used it as a base to explore the islands (Kapas, Reydang) on day trips.
I got a room with va nice vew on the River.
Found use tissue, unclean dustbin, ants all over!
Only shampoo and body wash amenities, coffee and tea..
Stayed 2 days they don’t clean up for you the second day and don’t refill the water..
Super basics..
The room is in a strategic location, close to the city with a sea view. The staff were helpful, but the mattress was quite old and you could feel the sagging springs. The bathroom was also not very clean, possibly due to its age, with a damaged door. The overall quality and maintenance need improvement.

GGuest UserThe place is ok .. not very clean, not very dirty .. just a bit noisy because there is a badminton court, right .. because I have a newborn .. but overall it's ok, no complain because there's no hotel holiday, right
AAnonymous UserIt's normal but it's ok to have a place to sleep and rest for a while. But don't expect anything fancy. The budget hotel is really old-fashioned but it's good to have a coway. The bed is not hard, the shower tap water is fast.

GGuest UserWe pick this hotel when overnight in KT.
Mainly for its location, being very near to Masjid Putih. and Pasar Payang. These two spots are 'must go' to the elderly like us. This hotel is one of the very few hotel that offers breakfast. That's another point why we choose this hotel.
HHeng Mei RongThank you to the hotel staff for the beautiful arrangement of the bubble bath and flowers. The place is absolutely amazing—super relaxing and peaceful. We truly appreciate the warm, friendly, and helpful service. We’ll definitely be coming back every year! 💙

AAnonymous UserThe hotel is excellent. It offers great value for money and has direct beach access. While the room itself was a bit dated, having the beach right there made me totally overlook it! 😂 The pool was clean, and breakfast was just okay. It's truly perfect for a relaxing escape to clear your mind. 👍👍 Overall, I highly recommend it.
