Trim Castle Hotel
4.3/5101 Reviews
We recently visited Trim Castle Hotel as we wanted to go back and show our daughters where we were married. We were so pleased to see that the hotel was just as good as we remembered! The girls were delighted to see a teepee and some gifts in the room. We were also really impressed by the size of the family room, which had a king size bed, another double, a sofa bed as well as the teepee. We ate in the hotel restaurant, taking advantage of the kids eat free deal. There was a great choice of food for both adults and on the children’s menu and we all really enjoyed the meal. We had booked a private cinema experience which was just amazing! With plenty of snacks and drinks provided, it was a real treat for all the family! Breakfast didn’t disappoint either - delicious food and super attentive staff always on hand to tip up our drinks! An absolutely amazing hotel with beautiful views of the Castle. We all really enjoyed our stay and will be back again soon!
Pillo Hotel & Leisure Club

We stayed in the Pillo hotel sensory bedroom last night and we didn't have the best experience. We went to check in at 15:50 and room wasn't ready which is fair enough as the girl pointed out check in was at 16:00. Finally got keys at 16:15 after approaching staff for updates. No apology for room not being ready on time. Reception staff were not very friendly at all. Bedroom itself is okay, very dated but roomy enough. The sensory nook was a let down. LED Cube didn't work and there was no projector or fidget box as listed. It was €374 for the room including breakfast, which is pricey enough. Definitely not a 4 star hotel. The only positives were the staff in the bar (in particular the lady that served us) and the staff in the leisure centre. The food was also really nice. Their computer system was also apparently breached and customers' personal details acquired. I received an unsolicited message from someone posing as the Pillo, looking for my card details to ”verify my booking”. Again, no apology from the hotel because of this
The Johnstown Estate

Myself and my wife stayed Saturday and Sunday night 5th and 6th of October. Our room was nice, clean and comfortable. We used the gym, the pool and the Spa, great facilities, staff really nice and helpful. On the Saturday we had dinner in the Restaurant and unfortunately it was very very poor. The food was so boring and plane. For starters I had soup and my wife had the fig salad. The soup was like yogurt and tasteless although the bread was really nice. My wife's salad was very bland, missing some ingredients stated on the menu and no dressing. For mains I had Cod and it was really just a dry square piece of fish that I honestly could of cooked better myself (and I'm a rubbish cook!), no sauce and a few shavings of potatoes under the fish along with a wee bit of veg. My wife had beef, instead of mash my wife opted for chips. No sauce on the beef just two dry bits of meat and a triangle piece of hard turnip. Absolutely shocking meal. My wife had desert but that was as bad as the main meal. Service wasn't great, a young kid served us for most of the evening and she had really no interest in been there as far as I could tell. Definitely would recommend to stay away from the restaurant. On the Sunday we had dinner in the bar and that was delicious, fantastic friendly service. Food was great in a nice atmosphere. We we're lucky to have tickets for Christy Moore in the ballroom and that was a fantastic evening, Christy was great, venue fantastic (no bar in the ballroom so no rowdy patrons), everyone there to enjoy the music in a lovely atmosphere. Overall we had a really lovely weekend, lovely hotel nice staff, fantastic facilities. Unfortunately the restaurant is a no no for us but highly recommend the bar food 👌

With a little extra attention this.place would he fantastic but clean up... both in the thermal suites and in the restaurant at breakfast was slow... towels lying all over the place for hours in the spa and workers in with measuring tapes and work boots while people are in the pool.made it a a bit uncomfortable.

Beautiful hotel very old and Victorian Staff friendly and on point food and drink beautiful and reasonable. Stunning grounds and history. Downside - hotel is not disabled friendly far to many steps if on a chair or like myself limited mobility issues on a stick a lot of stairs to go to to get to reception then back down and across a court yard to rooms with again more stair to get up and down again and across courtyard for dinner and more stairs and back again for breakfast. They could do with making it more disabled friendly and maybe a little golf cart for transportation a round Stairs steep and windy .
