The beach was nice - the sand was smooth and not rocky, the waves are a bit chill. Hence, kid-friendly. Facilities and amenities are nice tho a bit old aready. Since the pool was big, we were able to swim in the pool even though it’s peak season and many people. Morning jog at the lagoon was good as well. We also played billiards and bowling. It’s just sad that the kids playroom was under renovation. It could’ve been a pretty good experience overall.

During our recent trip, we booked a stay at a hotel that, for the most part, delivered a comfortable and pleasant experience. The rooms were clean, the staff were polite and helpful, and the facilities were well-maintained—everything we look for when choosing accommodation. By all usual standards, this would have been a solid, trouble-free stay that we would happily recommend to friends and family. However, there was one major catch that set this hotel apart from every other place we have ever stayed in, and it left us feeling frustrated and confused: their strict policy regarding linens and security deposits. In all the hotels, resorts, and guesthouses we have visited over the years, the standard rule has always been simple: treat the property with respect, avoid intentional damage, and you will get your full security deposit back upon checking out. Minor spills, accidental marks from daily use, or small stains that come naturally with staying in a room are almost always considered part of regular wear and tear. Housekeeping teams handle cleaning these as part of their daily duties, and deposits are rarely held unless there is significant damage, broken furniture, or missing items. This is the industry norm we have come to expect, and it makes traveling stress-free. This hotel operates very differently. Their policy states clearly that guests must take extreme care of all linens—including bed sheets, pillowcases, towels, and even table cloths found in the room. Even small, accidental stains from food, drinks, cosmetics, or dirt are not accepted. If any linen is marked, stained, or appears to have been used in a way they consider improper, the management reserves the right to keep your entire security deposit.  It felt unfair and overly strict. Unlike other places that charge a reasonable fee for cleaning or replacement if needed, this hotel takes the full amount you set aside as a deposit, regardless of the issue’s size or cost. It felt less like a policy to protect their property and more like an unexpected way to deduct extra charges. The whole situation made what was otherwise a nice stay feel sour and disappointing. We left feeling like we had to walk on eggshells the whole time, worrying that one small mistake would cost us extra money. Despite this frustrating experience, we have to admit: aside from this unusual rule, the hotel itself is fine. The location was convenient, the rooms were spacious and well-equipped, and the service was friendly. If you are planning to stay here, just be fully aware of their unique approach to linens and deposits. Read every line of their policy carefully, ask questions upfront, and be extra cautious with every item in the room. This policy is definitely different from any we have encountered before—we would even call it weird and unnecessary compared to how other hotels operate. It takes away some of the relaxation that comes with traveling. Still, if you are willing to follow their strict rules to the letter, you can still have a comfortable stay. Just make sure you know exactly what you are agreeing to, or you might end up losing your security deposit like we did.

The room, amenities, hotel ambiance, and service at Via Appia Hotel are great. The staff are friendly, and the place is very comfortable. The only issue I experienced was with the bathroom heater and hot water. The heater initially wasn’t working, so I called for it to be fixed. The technician came. Tried to fix it and said it was working now. However, when it was time to shower before checkout, the hot water in the bathroom only lasted for a few seconds before turning cold again. I had to turn the water off and on repeatedly to get hot water for short periods. This can be quite inconvenient, especially since the hotel is in Tagaytay, where the weather is very cold. Overall, I enjoyed my stay, but improving the hot water system would make the experience much better.

If you look for a peaceful place, that's a great place to stay as long as you are not picky on food, at least on western food since on this point it was disappointing. Not to the standard, the beauty of the hotel, a pity. Nice swimming pools, nice and well maintained gardens.

Canyon Cove Hotel and Spa

7.1/10

We stayed at Canyon Cove and overall, we enjoyed our visit mainly because of the beach, which was relaxing and pleasant. The pool was also a nice bonus, and it was heated at times, which we appreciated. The changing room near the beach and pool was unfortunately not well maintained and often felt unclean and unpleasant to use. We also didn’t find any proper shower or changing facility near the area, so we had to go back to our room or use the restroom, which was quite crowded and not very fresh, especially with day pass guests and only a few cubicles available. Breakfast had a decent selection with pancakes, cereals, and different viands, but there were no typical Filipino breakfast options as we expected. Even on weekdays, there were many guests, and it seemed like the restaurant was understaffed, so tables were not cleared quickly and food refilling took some time. We had to line up for breakfast for around 10–15 minutes. On a positive note, the restaurant staff were very polite and accommodating despite the busy setup. The room itself was comfortable and quiet, which made it easy to rest and sleep well. However, cleanliness could still be improved. The bed was very comfortable, which we really appreciated. Overall, the beach made the stay worthwhile and is the main highlight of the resort.

Room is fine, basic for sleepover. SMDC location is the best, so many restaurants and shops around. Commuter friendly location, bus stops right infront of the location. Friendly and helpful guards, lobby staff. Ang sarap mag walking while having Tagaytay cool weather. You can have picnic inside the wide lawn area.

First time to visit a resort and beach in Batangas, and I must say that Altamare exceeded my expectations. I love the activities you can do, though it is limited, but still worth it. The vibe of being so peaceful and calm, since it is away from the noise, is the best thing of this resort. The services and foods are very good. You just need to be prepared of the stairs, it is very challenging! Overall it was really really good experience.

We enjoyed our stay at Lake Hotel. We had a view of Taal Lake (and Taal Volcano) and enjoyed having coffee with that view. Food is great and service is superb. Waiters were readily available - assisting us to bring our plate back from the buffet table and helping bring up our bags as there were no elevators. Location is great - Conti’s beside the hotel and other restaurants to the left and right. Wish I was able to swim. Great view of Taal from the pool
