Albert Square is a large open area at Manchester city centre's heart. It's dominated by the Town Hall, a huge neo-gothic building, and the Albert Memorial, a statue and plinth dedicated to Prince Albert, husband of Queen Victoria. Each winter, the square plays host to the city's Christmas markets, an enormously popular attraction that draws visitors from afar.
