The archaeological site of Acrotiri witnessed the earliest prehistoric civilization development of Santorini, is an ancient city monument left by the Minoan civilization, one of the three major civilizations of the Aegean civilization, and is also one of the most important prehistoric sites in the Aegean Sea region. The first inhabitants of the area date back to the Neolithic era (at least 4000 BC).
