They say it's the best urban beach in the world. I don't know a whole lot about urban beaches, but Barceloneta wouldn't be the greatest neighborhood in town if it weren't for that beach.Barceloneta is a tiny peninsula and before the Olympics there was no beach here. At least no sandy beach. It had more of Mediterranean look, with little rocks, dark, and it was used mostly as a wasteland for the fishermen, fisheries and restaurants from Barceloneta. The Summer Olympics changed it forever into a tourist-filled space, with Chiringuitos scattered troughout the ocean front and the infamous W hotel almost at the end of the peninsula. All in all, the process has been object of critics but Today Barceloneta is still a vibrant neighborhood, with its distinct personality, and the beach front seems just plain wonderful.
