CMU, abbreviated as CMU, was founded in 1964. It contains three campuses with a total area of about 14 square kilometers and a student population of more than 30,000. The main campus is located in the western suburbs of Chiang Mai, Thailand. Chiang Mai University, the only state university in the city and the premier university of higher learning in northern Thailand, was founded in January 1964 by His Highness King Bhumibol. There is a campus sightseeing bus to take at the front door of Huay Kaew Road, and a stop at the picturesque Ang Kaew Lake.
