The palace was built between 1863 and 1867, during which the Ottoman sultans were keen to build their own palaces instead of inheriting the residences of their predecessors. Now the former Ottoman palace has been transformed into a five-star Kempinski hotel. The Sudanese presidential suite, priced at $15332 a night, is ranked 14th most expensive hotel in the world.
