The towering monuments commemorate the encounters and sacrifices of the peoples of Singapore during World War II and also commemorate the deaths of those who died during the Japanese occupation of Singapore. To the east of the meadow of Government House, you will see a monument made up of four stone pillars of similar size and structure. The monument, which is over 60 meters tall, symbolizes the common suffering of the four major ethnic groups in Singapore - Malays, Chinese, Indians and Eurasians, and those who died and were buried there.
