Dongguan Street, an important thoroughfare of Yangzhou in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), is 1,122 meters long. Originally paved with long stone flags, this street has been an arterial road traversing Yangzhou from west to east since the Tang Dynasty (AD618-907). The Dongguan Street, Dongquan Gate and vicinity constitute the Shuangdong Historical Block, which has typical Yangzhou characteristics and occupies an area of 83 hectares. With a population of over 10,000 and more than 20 important historic relics, it has recently been listed among the key historic streets under State-level preservation.
