Edinburgh is divided into old city and new city, which is divided by Prince Street. The old city seems to be mainly medieval architecture, including St. Gills Cathedral, Scottish Church Hall, Surgical Building, Royal Museum of Scotland, University of Edinburgh, Scottish Parliament Building and so on. Originally thought that the new town was a modern urban area built in recent years. Looking up the hill, most of them were ancient buildings. Later, I learned that the old city was built in the 1300s, and the new town construction was only about 100 years later than the old city construction. To be realistic, Edinburgh is an ancient city.
