Gelati Monastery Review

Built in the 12th century in the era of David IV, Georgia's most powerful, the great king who led Georgians to drive Turks out of the Transcaucasus was buried in the monastery. The Byzantine building is currently undergoing renovations, but it does not prevent access to the interior. The main building of the church, the Virgin Church, has a large number of century murals, which are breathtaking. There are two kinds of murals, mosaic and wet murals, and the interior of the church is mainly wet murals. The whole mural from the dome to the root of the wall has faded from its original gorgeous color for hundreds of years, but it can peek into the splendid history from the mottled historical traces.

Gelati monastery is a gem of medieval art. The monastery was under repair when I went, but it was still accessible inside. The walls and roof inside the monastery have large murals, which are very nice. But because of the age, there have been a lot of peeling. But it can't change the wonderfulness of it.
