The former site of the German prison, located at No. 25 Changzhou Road, Qingdao, is a key cultural and insurance unit in the country, and is now open for museum ticket sales. The complex was built in 1900 and was used as a prison (guarding house) until 1995. The old site covers an area of 11 mu and has a construction area of 8,000 square meters. The main building is a typical 19th century German castle-style building. It is the earliest colonial prison in China. The locals also call it the "European Prison", because Germany occupied Qingdao (1897-1914), in fact, only non-Chinese prisoners were held here, such as German soldiers and sailors who violated military discipline regulations. PS: In terms of the building itself, it is very exciting and beautiful. Especially the details have many marks of Chinese and Western integration. Like the Russian-Japanese Lushun Prison, there is a gloomy dungeon water prison under it, and it is said that it is also a "masterpiece" built after the Japanese occupation, which is quite impressive.
