The golden roof was built by Grand Duke Friedrich IV in the early 15th century as the palace of Tyrol's monarchs. The golden roof, actually a three-story balcony of the central square in the heart of the Old Town, was built by Emperor Maximilian I (Holy Roman Empire), who could sit on the balcony and watch the game in the square below.
