The Kyeongju Historic Site District is the most abundant, outstanding and concentrated area of Buddhist art in Korea. Buddhist art forms in Gyeongju are diverse; sculptures, pagodas, reliefs, and temples and palace sites in Gyeongju flourished between the 7th and 10th centuries, which are unique expressions of Buddhist art. In 2000, according to the selection criteria C(ii)(iii) for cultural heritage, it was listed in the World Heritage List.
