amazing place! you can find cafes around the area and rent a boat! there are motor boats and pedals but the availability is according to how much people is renting it. totally recommended!

Houhai is a place in the middle of Shichahai, when tourists enter Shichahai from many places, often the first place to enter is Houhai. Houhai is also the most lively place in Shichahai. People came here through the alleys. The coast is full of various shops. There are also parks. The old courtyard buildings can be visited. This is the famous summer and play place in old Beijing.

Houhai is located in the Xicheng District of Beijing city center, Houhai is an integral part of Shichahai, composed of Qianhai, Houhai, Xihai three water surfaces, in order to be different from Beihai, Zhonghai, and South China Sea "first three seas", known as "back three seas". Houhai East from Di'anmen Outer Street, West to Xinjiekou Street, South to Ping'an Street, North to North Second Ring Road, the total area of 146.7 hectares, of which 34 hectares of water area,11.5 hectares of green space. This is the ancient waters of the Yuan Dadu period 700 years ago in Beijing.

Houhai is a part of Shichahai which has gone through thousands of years. It is an idle place with water and can see mountains, weeping willows brushing the shore, folk houses and inhabitants on the shore, and the surrounding royal palaces and former residences of celebrities, which display the endless charm of Beijing and history. Outside those lofty and solemn gates, only the tall and lush trees in the courtyard can be seen, with mystery lingering in a leisurely way. Although Houhai street structure has a long history, it still has the typical characteristics of Beijing traditional architecture. There are many shops with Beijing flavor in Houhai Street.
