Kaiyuan Temple is located in Kaiyuan Road, Chaozhou City, Guangdong Province. Built in the 26th year of Kaiyuan (738) of Xuanzong in Tang Dynasty, it was called "Kaiyuan Longevity Zen Temple" in Yuan Dynasty, and "Kaiyuan Town National Zen Temple" in Ming Dynasty. After Qing Dynasty, "Kaiyuan Town National Zen Temple" and "Kaiyuan Temple" were also called. Since its establishment, the temple has been repaired in all dynasties. The present temple covers an area of 20,000 square meters. The whole temple retains the Tang Dynasty's planar layout. It also condenses the architectural art of different dynasties in Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties, and enjoys great prosperity. During the Cultural Revolution, the Kaiyuan Temple was severely damaged. In 1982, overseas Chinese, Hong Kong and Macao compatriots donated funds to carry out comprehensive maintenance, so that the Kaiyuan Temple regained its former elegance.
