This large white monument at one of Cancun's busiest roundabouts is known locally as "La Licuadora" or "The Blender" due to its multi-blade design. It was created in 1981 by Cuban sculptor and painter Jose Delarra and is composed of images of (and quotations from) important figures in Mexican history. Emiliano Zapata, Benito Juarez and Miguel Hidalgo are here, along with some names that will be less familiar to foreign visitors—people like Sor Juana Ines de la Cruz (Baroque poet) and Lazaro Cardenas (President of Mexico, 1934-1940).
