Otaru, a port city in Hokkaido, Japan, takes about an hour by tram from Otaru. The former West Coast Economic Center of Hokkaido, developed about 100 years ago as the sea gateway of Hokkaido, was extremely prosperous, and many banks and companies came to develop here, and even called "Wall Street of the North". With the port's decline, there are now only old canals and ancient masonry warehouses along the coast. Now transformed into tourist cities, the warehouse buildings have been mostly converted into glass art shops, tea houses, restaurants and large grocery stores.
